SMSes of Monday 15 February 2010

* THE only way to stop theft and corruption is for parents to teach their children to be honest at all times. Then the parents must also lead by example.   * INSPIRATION comes from nowhere, but leads to somewhere! What we, as Namibians, currently need – to get out of our situations – is a little inspiration. Where to find it is anybody’s guess.

Food for Thought
* WHILE I agree wholeheartedly with Alexactus Kaure’s observations in Friday’s paper, I have one observation – democracy does not guarantee prosperity for all. In fact totalitarian states tend to look after their citizens’ basic needs better. While few people prosper in our sense of the word, no-one goes hungry. Africa is different because its Governments pretend to be democratic but have no interest in their people at all

* TRIBALISM, racism, affirmative action, is there any one brave enough to call an open debate forum throughout Namibia? I would like talk about it not only in the news paper.
– FKK, Windhoek

Bouquets and Brickbats
* NEWSPAPER cartoonists do not have to resort to government criticism to provide a substantial contribution to the readers of the newspaper. In fact at times there is nothing better than the simplicity of a humorous strip to take one’s mind off the trials and tribulations of a long hard day’s work. Thank you Ndeshi & Jakes, please keep it up.

They can make things easier

* THANK you Namibian Defence force for allocating a helicopter for measles in Kunene!

* WE the Sesfontein marginalised community, thank and appreciate the Director of Kunene Health for her efforts eradicating measles in Opuwo health district. People of your calibre are scarce in Namibia.

* I WOULD like to commend Ms Astrid Sterud from Norway, for her dedication and assistance to the Namibian poor. It is amazing what can be done with only N$20 000, and yet have such an impact on the lives of others! Well done, but this brings me to another topic, if N$20 000 can have such an impact, why can’t government have a more positive impact on the lives of the poor, imagine what the billions of dollars, set aside for the defence force utilities in the new budget could do for the Namibian poor? Shame on Government, it has got its priorities totally wrong!!

* GWEN LISTER, do you know you are among few journalists from this continent who tell the truth about Africa, bad governance and the so-called democracy politics. I buy The Namibian newspaper because of you! Wake up United States of Africa and wake up Africans. Stop waiting for manna from Heaven.Thumbs up girl!

Repeat it like the AIDS message

* THANK you Gwen for your excellent and very relevant take on our materialistic Namibian society in Friday’s paper. This message should be repeated like the HIV-AIDS message.

* IT is a good thing to see Gwen Lister talking about volunteering one’s time for causes. Not bad idea. Just want to know to many causes has she volunteered her time?

* EDITORS of the same mind: (Asser) Ntinda and (Gwen) Lister are now birds of the same feather. Read their responses to Hon Kazenambo  Kazenambo on the issue of a non-Oshiwambo president.

* THE Eros Shopping Centre renovations look great. However there is no place to lock up your bicycle. We should encourage people to  cycle not discourage them with lack of foresight.

* TREE of the week Namibian February 11. Acacia xanthophloea does not occur in Namibia naturally. Your photo is unclear but appears to be of A. nigrescens (Knob thorn). This occurs along the Okavango River and in Caprivi. See: Tree Atlas of Namibia.
– Friederich

* IT is sad to note that top officials at Government offices and parastatals do not respond to or return telephone calls. Please guys these are not your private companies. The public only calls for service-related matters. Yet you sit in your air-conditioned offices calling family and friends.

* THE CBEND project, although important, is not the first green energy to be fed into the national grid. The Waldorf School and Habitat Centre in Windhoek both do so already, as well as at least two private people. Check your facts.

Election Challenge
* ALLOW me to express views on behalf of others. The concern is about the outcome of the election court case. The Namibian people are waiting for the judiciary to uphold the Constitution and the electoral laws of this country, which means justice must prevail. The eyes and ears of the Namibian people as well as the international community are on alert about the court ruling. If injustice prevails in this case, the business community of Khomas Region and Erongo Region is ready to stand side by side with all stakeholders to fight this case financially up to the Supreme Court, if necessary, and up to the International Court of Justice. We want true democracy in this country.
– Well-informed Namibian.

* IT is fatal, but revealing, that the ECN responds to the opposition’s court case with technical objections and personal attacks. The voters of Namibia need to be convinced that democracy is working, not be hit on the head with rulebooks. Despite the myriad of electoral acts the ECN still doesn’t understand the spirit of democracy.

* WHAT happened to the election court case? Has ECN managed to submit whatever it was supposed to submit?
– They have and the case is set down for March 1 and 2 – Newsdesk

Running the Show

* MR President (Hifikepunye Pohamba), we the youth of this country are appealing to you to appoint a Youth Minster who has the youth’s interests at heart.

Politics in General
* Before God we are all equal. King Mswati (of Swaziland) with his virgin wives. President (Jacob) Zuma with his matured wives. Colonel (Muammar)  Gadaffi with his permitted four.  According to Islam … Sunni … the Tsonga tribe from Zambia with their 10 wives, King Solomon with his 140. I am an African. Who must I trust? The West or God?

* NEWSDESK or anyone please help. I don’t have any problem with Mr (Jacob) Zuma marrying four women and that he is planning to marry again very soon. My question is are they already in the relationship? And what do we call a woman having a relationship with a married man – mistress and other names, no matter who you are or does it have some other title because you are going to be the president’s wife?
 – Dido

In and From the Regions
* THE Municipality of Okahandja must stop giving plots without toilets and sewerage pipes. It is unhealthy and leads to more crime.

* ONE Africa when are we going to get a One Africa Tower in Mariental?

* PLEASE our Government help and look after your people. We need a road from Outapi town to Okapalelona  border post.

* Maltahohe Village Council. When a person asks who is the acting CEO, the answer is no-one. People of Build Together  want to know where their money went. When they ask, the administrators say they do not know.

* TO the person who complained about traffic officers between Oshivelo and Ondangwa. Try the road to Oshikango. It is even worse! It has become a money making racket.
– Another disgusted Motorist

Some San fall on hard times

* HONOURABLE Deputy Prime Minister (Libertina Amathila) I want to bring the plight of the San in Grootfontein to your attention. They are sleeping in open spaces without shelter with small babies. There are kids in Mulunga single quarters.
–Worried citizen

* COMRADE F Jatileni Onesi  Constituency, we need electricity  like others. Please  talk to the Government.

Traffic Talk
* DR (Kalumbi) Shangala was recently perfectly right with his comments on (taxi) drivers in this country. But he forgot to highlight the position of bikers in traffic. Most probably because they have no position nor rights on the Namibian roads. Shame! It is time for change!
– Jan Dijkstra, obviously a regular biker.

Education

Why train for no jobs?

* MINISTRY oF Education, what is the use of training teachers on a yearly basis if you know that you have no vacant posts to recruit these teachers especially maths and science teachers? Why can’t the ministry build more schools to reduce the overcrowded classes for the present schools and create employment opportunities to the qualified teachers on the street? Ministry of Education burst out of your shell and face the reality.
– Ndalulilwa.

* I DON’T understand why the Ministry of Education does not recognise all students who have passed Grade 12, because they only want to award loans to students who are studying for degrees and not certificates and diplomas. This is a serious concern to us students as we cannot afford a single cent of what has to be paid at the university. We both want to study so that our skills are not lost to our country, but can contribute more towards the development of Namibia.
– Economically inactive student

Health Matters

How about the other regions?

* IS measles that serious in Kunene Region. If it is only treated there, what about other regions?
– Concerned parent

Labour Issues
* RED tape, the Ministry of Education sent notices about incentives to rural school teachers with effect from April 2009, but up until now nothing has transpired. So  Ministry of Education, shall these teachers wait until the cows come home?

* MR (Evilastus) Kaaronda,  rather call for a consumer alcohol boycott. That way you may help prevent bigger problems that are destroying our nation.

* AGRIBANK please pay your staff the bonuses you have owed since December.

* OUT of interest. Of the 50 per cent unemployed what percentage is employable?

City Fathers Please...

Not in public view please

* CITY of Windhoek, please we are ashamed of seeing people urinate in the streets, exposing themselves even in front of the church. Where is our culture? Please do something.

* CITY Fathers I send this SMS because I see you are good enough to answer. At Independence my monthly bill with you was N$195 but it increased eleven-fold to N$2 200 a month lately only due to tariff increases.  I am at retirement age but if the account will increase eleven-fold in the next 20 years it will be N$24 000 which my pension will not be. What solution do you recommend?

Children of the Struggle
* I WANT to know when the pre-registration for exile kids is coming to Khomas Region? Many kids here are still waiting and it’s like Khomas is forgotten. Please answer.
– HJ

General
* ADVICE to the one who is looking for a house to buy, but finds them sold early in the morning, on Friday February12. 1. Place your own ad on the housing wanted section. 2. Get up as early as possible and check all newspapers. 3. Go street by street looking for empty houses. 4. Get in touch with several agents and tell them what you are looking for. You need determination, persistence, patience, perseverance and money; it is frustrating but, eventually it pays off. I did that and succeeded. Good luck.

Check how many tote guns

* I AM sure Namibian law enforcers are aware that more than 80 per cent of ordinary Namibians (such as taxi drivers, service station attendants, illegal shebeen owners and those that just roam the streets of the CBD) are armed with firearms. What do the police do to disarm these people? Hence the attitude of taxi drivers and shebeen owners. Please somebody prove me wrong. Please set up roadblocks and do a proper body search on taxi drivers.
– M.

* WHY do all these nature estates build entry gates that look like filling station canopies?

Service Please
* TO the Knorr suppliers: What happened to mix -pap? I can’t it in any shop. Pick n Pay used to sell it!

* PLEASE manager of Shoprite Oshakati, the food sold from the kitchen is not okay. If it’s not full of salt then it’s cooked with old oil or there are flies all over the food. Please do something.
– Worried customer.

* NEDBANK you’re very slow to process deposits especially at Main Branch. Please do what other banks do. It’s a new year.
– Frustrated client

* WOOLWORTHS please open a branch in Maerua Mall and stock the same range as in South Africa, except the fresh food.

Sporting
* I AGREE with W Kapukare that coach Tom Saintfiet did not pick his players well. Not even one Black Africa player was considered against Bafana in Durban.
– Jep

* I P Haidula lost my ID, driver’s licence, FNB and Standard Bank debit cards, plus a Clicks credit card in Swakopmund. Please contact me on 081-127-8828.
