SMSes of Friday 5 February 2010

* LET us hope the Namibian law takes its course with those who tried to be heroes, chasing a housebreaking thief up and down the rivers and hills of Katutura then beating the poor guy to death, when they saw they could not control what they provoked. Please, housebreaking is a worldwide problem, and one of the reasons why every country has a police force. Let us leave Police work to the Policemen and women. A person’s life will never be worth a DVD player and a decoder. We have people stealing millions of dollars daily in this country but they are not given corporal punishment nor beaten to death. I wonder what they would say if they were to find out the guy was one of their long lost relatives?

* DEAR compatriots, why don’t you guys negotiate with the cellphone companies to open an SMS line donation appeal to support a Salvage Democracy Fund? Just like we did for Haiti?

Food for Thought
* THE Electoral Commission of Namibia has assembled a ‘star legal team’ for the coming case, while the opposition asks for donations to have fair legal representation. Our tax money pays for the ECN’s excesses while we feel aggrieved at the way the ECN messed up our birthright to vote and have a fair result, and donate to the opposition. In other words we pay to be attacked and to be defended

Bouquets and Brickbats

* KAZENAMBO Kazenambo, until today we never supported you but your principled moral actions lately have awoken many of us. We wish you were this fiery years ago. Keep up the good work. You are winning new support every day

* BRAVO and long live Honourable Kazenambo Kazenambo. For always being there for all our people, thank you for your courageous and tested leadership. You are always an inspiration to many of us for standing firm on your convictions and for your zero tolerance on corruption and tribalism. I wish we had more Kazenambos among our political leadership in the Land of the Brave. Once again I personally salute  you and wish you God’s wisdom, determination, good health and God’s blessings. Together we can build a better future for our children in an independent Namibia, free from tribalism & racial discrimination.
– Chalo Chainda free and proud Namibian

* I DON’T think the MTC ad with the lady dancing is inappropriate, I mean I see music videos on TV every five minutes with young ladies doing the inappropriate dances and nobody is complaining. Or is that more appropriate?

* NBC? I sat down at 13h00 for my daily dose of CNN just to find it’s been taken off air. Was even one ordinary tax-paying household consulted?

* CAN Matongo family please do something about their differences. We miss them a lot and the Namibian music industry isn’t the same without you guys.

The Namibian
* THE NAMIBIAN, you have really improved. The first edition’s [August 30 1985] grammar was very poor.
– Thank you. We continually strive to do better in every area. – Newsdesk

* TO The Namibian newspaper: We want the whole copies of the history of the newspaper, because some people don’t know how the newspaper was reporting before Independence. Please do whole copies. We are ready to buy them.
– Hepu Omafo, Helao Nafidi
– Thank you. As part of its 25th anniversary celebration, The Namibian is working on digitising its archives. All our old newspapers will be available on CD at a nominal fee. Once this is completed and available, we will announce it. In the meantime, you are welcome to visit our Resource Centre. – Newsdesk

* THE editor, thank you for ‘still telling it like it is’ and for this new wonderful idea of bringing old stories. Insert even all the copy of old stories please.
– E Kaanduka

Is it Proper?
* WHY don’t the Namibian Police investigate [Information] Minister [Joel] Kaapanda for the rumours he made about weapons? It’s very serious I think. Just asking.

Politics
* WHY is it that come voting time, the media carries stories of development to be done in the towns where voting takes place? Okahandja airport, abattoir, etc. Is it to influence the voting?

* IF the likes of [NUNW’s Evilastus] Kaaronda and [SYPL’s Elijah] Ngurare can say whatever they want when not even elected by the Namibian people, then I believe that I have the right to tell them what I think of them since I’m not elected as well: Keep quiet and stay out of my country’s affairs.

* NO-ONE is capable of knowing and addressing the needs of the masses better than the masses themselves. This makes me wonder whether a 59-year-old will know and address the plight of the youth. Above 35, you are old. Make peace with that and leave youth matters to the youth please.
– Jackson

* VIVA Minister [Kazenambo] Kazenambo! I don’t understand why it is a crime in Swapo to talk the truth. That is a major problem we have with your party.

* GOLDEN rule for all Permanent Secretaries: Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself. What goes around comes around. Contracts not being renewed is common in the Namibian Government..

* PERMANENT Secretary?? What an oxymoron! There is nothing permanent in a five-year contract. But temporary secretary does not sound so nice now, does it?

* JUDGES are human and therefore must accept that they are not above criticism. I support the NUNW’s call for a Commission of Inquiry to be appointed to investigate the judiciary.

Politics in General
* [SA President] Jacob Zuma does not deserve a presidential position. He has done a lot of irresponsible things.

* WHAT is it with the Chinese and their obsession to prescribe to other nations with whom they are allowed to have contact or not?

ACC Alert
* ACC, please come and investigate 10 per cent deals that have been going on for two years at Inland Revenue Otjiwarongo.

* I AM a concerned resident of Luderitz and want to know why the ACC is reluctant to take action over corruption claims at the Luderitz Municipality? Wake up Buchters!

Education
* FOR our education system to work out, let the kids find out their career while at school. Fields of study should start at Grade 5 like medical, agricultural, education, safety, marine, mining. As from the lower grade, a kid will know what he or she should study.
– CHII

* NAMIBIAN Grade 12 learners, I really do not understand why you do not realise the reason you do not get admission to Unam or the Poly. Is it because you do not do two or three subjects on a higher level of which one must be English. For a 4 you score 6 points. It is not true that the higher level is difficult. Many learners will get that 4. Nanso wake up and force these schools to implement higher level. Soon Unam and Poly will raise their admission requirements!

* IS mother tongue not contributing to the high failure rate especially in the South. English is the language to use. Etsip, change it if  you want good results.

* TWENTY-TWO per cent of learners passed Grade 12 and Government cannot come up with bursaries for them. Very demotivating for the others. Government is not committed .

* THESE people who thought up an eight-hour school day must go and teach for a month to experience firsthand what most have to put up with – disruptive, rude and lazy learners. Other civil servants have heaven on earth compared to a teacher’s work day. I admit some teachers are lazy but will more hours make them more productive? I don’t think so. That’s where principals must get up and do their jobs. Some parents can’t cope with one rude kid at home

* I WOULD like to know when the aptitude tests for Okakarara Vocational Training Centre are going to take place?

In and From the Regions

Chickens that scratch outside

* CAN those farmers who sell Oshiwambo chickens please come to Lüderitz. We don’t get them here at all.
– Hileni

* WHY are plastic or carrier bags offered for free by some supermarkets elsewhere but not at Grootfontein town? Please get the reasons for us from Spar, OK and Etosha stores.

* ONAYENA is  a big  town  but  it’s  very  poor. There is no bank, no shopping centre. We need these things.
– Shitana  H

* WE need more control at the Namibia-Angola border. Angolans enter Namibia too freely. They are just too many going in and out of Namibia. Ministry of Home Affairs, please look into this.

* MR Kankoshi of Onyaanya Constituency can you please tell us what’s going on with our IDs. Just imagine we have been waiting since from 08 and we are now in 2010.

* WHY don’t we have a Natis office at Omaruru? Karibib is too far and it takes money to go up and down.
* I REALLY want to know exactly what happens to the wild animals that get knocked down on the roads?  I was informed that the wardens from the Ministry of Environment come and collect them from the Police station. This is what normally happens at Okahandja. What happens to the meat then? Why can’t it be given to the prisoners as was done before. I want The Nambian to find this out for us please.

Health Matters
* DR [Richard] Kamwi please save us from Okahandja nurses. We waited from 10h00 to 14h00 on February 1 because of a nurses’ meeting! All the nurses were at the meeting and we were told to wait as they had matters to discuss. Is this the cod e and oath of the nurses now? Help please! This is not the first time.

Living a positive life

* OUR country has a very high number of HIV infections. Most of the people feel alone, scared and even guilty. However, it’s a wake-up call. I was diagnosed HIV positive 10 years ago. At first I was shocked and frightened as I thought about my future. Slowly I accepted my status and I am now living a positive life with HIV. If you are HIV positive, don’t keep blaming yourself and others. It will just drag you down and make you feel worse. Instead look for the positive in your life and find ways to uplift your spirits. We are heroes. My appeal to all Namibians let’s not die of HIV, let’s fight it. Talk to me.

Labour Issues
* SINCE companies using foreign unskilled and semi-skilled workers no longer qualify for Government tenders will the Chinese construction companies now please go home and take their Chinese workers with them!

* I JUST want to find out when the Ministry of Defence will release the names of the new recruits. We want to know because some of us want to go and study and don’t want to waste our parents’ money. If I am accepted, I would rather work.

* THERE’S no way teachers can work for eight hours like other civil servants, because our working conditions are not the same either. Apart from teachers, which other employees walk more than 15 km in the bush to work, cross deep oshanas during the rainy season, work in your office with so much heat, work on weekends or travel for duty without claiming S&T or work without proper toilets? We know our rights too, but we are professionals that’s why we don’t pressure our employers.

Service Please

Please bill us correctly

* CITY of  Windhoek, please stop your miscalculations regarding our municipality bills. I am tired of incompetent staff who can only come up with a lame excuse of water leakage at my house. What about those who are illiterate? Because I managed to confront them about my bill that was almost N$7 000 dollars within a space of three weeks when I had made a payment in the second week of January, without any leakages, and we are only two at home. After confronting their cashier I was sent from pillar to post when my bill was eventually reduced to N$1 000 dollars. Do you call that a mistake? Please my dear consumers go through your bills carefully especially the illiterate, you might lose your house.

* THE City of Windhoek councillors must be held responsible for creating and delivering a disservice to motorists in the city.

* MINISTRY of Finance, when are you going to process our income tax returns of 2008-2009?

* NAMPOL please put up several points/tables for document verification in Windhoek. The long line is wasting students’ time.

* I WONDER how many Toyotas with dangerous accelerators and brakes, as reported overseas, are being sold in Namibia.  The local agents are keeping very quiet.

* LEO please do something about the availability of your product like the air time. Small retailers cannot afford it as they have to buy more then N$500 to get a discount. Please do something. We walk far to get leo credit. Thanks.

* CAN the Namibia Airports Company or the Ministry of Home Affairs please do something about the Immigration Officer selling sweets at the counter while working at Hosea Kutako Airport. It’s a very bad image for the country and tourism.
– Regular traveller

* DANRIC Auto BMW, please improve your service division. Clients deserve better! Thank you (The Namibian’s Team) for still telling it like it is.

* MANAGER of Omaruru Spar, please send some of your cashiers for customer training.

* IN support of the SMS on Thursday, it’s high time Standard Bank give us feedback on cellphone banking. We a tired of complaining. Or did they give feedback and I missed it?

Competition Time
* CAN the manager tell us who won the N$50 000 that was sponsored by Onk Properties during the holiday season?

* MTC/NBC, when are you going to screen the winner of the Samsung Star for the final (Afcon) match between Egypt and Ghana?

* NBC, we want you to tell us who is the winner of your competition between Ghana and Algeria, also Egypt and Ghana.

Lost and Found
* I FOUND Jacqueline Marlyn’s ID. She was born at Gibeon. Contact 081-209-4391.

NBC
* WHY don’t we have services like Silozi and Rukwangali here in Grootfontein? We need them to participate in programmes like the Chat Show and for greetings.
