SMS Of The Day 26 February 2010

IS there nothing the government can do to protect the unfortunate who do not own houses from exploitation? Room to let N$1 500, one bedroom flat N$3 000, two bedroom flat N$4 000 and 3 bedroom house N$8 500 is ridiculous!

Food for Thought
FELLOW women and men be realistic about the number of children you have. We are literally pushing our children into poverty because we can’t afford to see them through tertiary education.
– TK, Windhoek

Bouquets and Brickbats
THANK you Dolfyn Fish and Chips in Rehoboth for installing aircons. Now please attend to your plasma TV. Watch the Bulls.

TO Absalom – check Tree Atlas of Namibia website www.biodiversity.org.na. Keep up your good intentions.
– Friederich.

WHAT is wrong with the Yellow Pages in the phone book? Are there really only 14 hotels in the whole of Namibia?

NWR
WAS it not the MD Tobie Aupindi in the paper last year with a salary of N$1,2 million. Surely NWR will go broke with these outrageous salaries

THE Namibian vs Die Republikein, how come the former reported negatively and the latter positively in your front page stories on NWR on Tuesday? As a tradition,The Namibian newspaper has been habitually critical of NWR, why?
– The Namibian reported fully on all aspects of NWR’s finances. This newspaper is not habitually critical of anyone and reports on events deemed newsworthy and in the public interest. – Newsdesk

Business as Usual
I DO think the Chinese in our motherland are well qualified when it comes to technology. May our Government find out if there are qualified geologists to discover petrol in our land?
– Varry

(TRADE Minister Hage) Geingob must ask the Chinese if it’s okay to enforce our own laws. I wonder how far this country has been sold off for a few pieces of silver by a small elite?

The Hand That Feeds
WHO is Evalistus Kaaronda’s superior? Why doesn’t he call EK to order? Does his silence imply he approves EK’s tirades? .

MR Evilastus Kaaronda you have a right to say what you want to say, but you must also evaluate what you want tell the Namibian people. You must not only talk because you want directly to satisfy your belly at the expense of NUNW. When did Mr (Hidipo) Hamutenya become an enemy of this country? Mr Hamutenya contributed a lot to the Independence of this land, more than you did. Stop this behaviour and start paying respect to elders in respect of political affiliation. We as Namibians know that you talk so much because you are hungry for a seat.
– Johannes Anthon Frans

NUNW SG Evilastus Kaaronda

MR Evilastus Kaaronda I think the time has come for you to put your time and energy into the NUNW and leave the foreign aid providers in the capable hands of our real leaders. They have done the job well since Independence.

WHAT problems does Namibia have with the Germans at all? They mostly run solid and proper businesses and farms, they employ thousands of Namibians at higher salaries than others do, they have the knowhow this country needs, they are law-abiding people in general (exceptions possible) and they don’t cry for help from Government like others do permanently. And nobody here is straight enough to refuse the millions from the German Government. What a miserable practice! Just blaming foreigners because of own incompetence. Should Germany start to send home millions of Africans, Asians and other aliens as well?

CAN Kaaronda stop issuing statements on behalf of Swapo in the name of the union. Not all members are Swapo. If you don’t agree, call for the resignation of all non-Swapo members from your union. I’m sure the remaining membership fees will not be enough to cover a meagre salary. I dare you to do that if you are as patriotic as you claim. Limit your attack on individual organisations rather than on Germany as a nation. Don’t destroy the two nations relations.

MR E Kaaronda I think it is time you were called to order. You have said enough.
– Embarrassed

Politics
ON the high number of political parties in Namibia, Dr Aupa Indongo is dead right. Non-ruling parties should unite and form a formidable force. However, Dr Indongo is completely wrong when he insinuated that the numerous political parties have nothing to offer. No sir, with sky-high unemployment and the attendant social ills, there is a lot that these parties can offer as Namibian parties.
– Epuka

N$220,3 million on ‘Where others wavered! That goes to show where the Swapo leaders have their priorities. Clearly not on combating poverty among the Namibian people.

PLEASE Namibians, let’s put our heads together irrespective of our political differences to keep Hon (McHenry) Venaani in Parliament. Please dear former and current Presidents help, even if certain conditions are to be attached to his recall. I am articulating this because of a love for my country.
– Productive Namibian.

Running the Show
HON Nickey Iyambo, please look into the matter of student police. At least appoint us and let’s do inservice training until you find us a solution.

NBC
AS an independent person one can probably afford to be biased but the NBC, being funded with tax money, cannot and must not be biased. Are we together on this one Dr Mulongeni?

VIVA John Grobler. It is clear who the real journalist is. Ben is biased and a weak interviewer. It is really sad.
– ‘Salim Kata’

PLEASE NBC can you repeat the One on One show but on a Sunday when the majority of us are on home

I THINK that Dr Ben Mulongeni is the worst interviewer I’ve ever seen! I haven’t done journalism but it really would not take a genius to see that what he’s doing is not in the spirit of the profession. NBC should remove him from the One on One programme before a fight breaks out in that studio! I mean how can you ask someone a question and then before he/she finishes answering the question you interrupt them?! I think that’s just blatantly rude!

DR lost two rounds on One on One in a row. Sorry.

NORMAN Tjombe knocked him out. Kazenambo Kazenambo demolished him. John Grobler was holding back but still won by a TKO. In all these three bouts Dr Ben Mulongeni was a loser.

I THINK it is in the interest of Swapo that Dr Ben Mulongeni be removed from the One on One programme. If the aim of the program is to get as much as possible from an individual for the benefit of the nation rather than vilify them Dr Mulongeni has failed in his duty. Like Kazenambo, John Grobler has come out a hero in (the latest) One on One programme.

DR Mulongeni is an embarrassing liability to the process of nation building. Namibia has better talent than the destructive kind of Dr Ben Mulongeni.

DR (Ben) Mulongeni is not fit to conduct interviews on One on One, he is biased and has an agenda against anybody who doesn’tt think the Swapo way. He is an embarrassment to democracy. Anyway who are the “people may say” he is always referring to? NBC should do the right thing and get a journalist to conduct it.

OH I miss the old golden days when we could watch religious programmes on NBC, the likes of TD Jakes, Miles Monroe and many other local services. Please NBC bring back spiritual upliftment.
–RK

WITH all due respect NBC please replace Dr Mulongeni. We want to enjoy One on One with a neutral person.

DR Mulongeni please withdraw yourself from presenting One on One. You don’t have the calibre. What is worse, it sounds like your questions are provided by the ruling party? And do you even research the personalities you have to interview? Honestly you lack as a presenter.

MR Matthew Gowaseb might have weakneses but I believe he is the best person to run NBC bcause he was always showing educational and developmental programmes and that is what the Namibian nation needs. Please whoever is responsible reconsider the decision and bring him back but he should also learn to be considerate at least.

DO the NBC TV news readers go for training? I’m not pleased with some who read like they are reading for kindergarten kids.

NBC National Radio that countdown of top international songs you made on ‘The night move’ on February 24 wasn’t clear. Anyone listening to ‘Rick Dees weekly top 40’, ‘Brit 40’ or ‘World Chat Show top 20’ aired on one of our local radio stations, will agree with me that none of those songs there is the best international song. Some like ‘Bedrock’, ‘Replay’ and ‘Try sleeping with a broken heart’ you got them right but they aren’t international chart toppers. Where was Keisha’s ‘Tick Tock’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’, Jay Sean’s ‘Do you remember’ and a few others? As far as I’m concerned these are top international chart toppers in the popular countdowns I mentioned above. Some songs you mentioned are not even on either of those countdowns.

In and From the Regions
I RECENTLY paid a visit to the south, Keetmanshoop to be specific! And to my surprise I was shocked at how neglected the town was – gravel roads exceeding tarred ones, schools looking as they did when my mother was a learner there and not forgetting community development. I demand that our tax money is put to good use

CAN the Grootfontein Revenue Office please get a cash register! We are fed up waiting for hours.
– A tax-paying citizen.

NHE, please consider handing over some houses which are complete in Omaruru so that we can guard them ourselves. We are tired of waiting and even the thieves are taking chances which might prolong the process.
– A concerned client.

WE acknowledge the support we receive from the community of Lüderitz. We can only bring about changes if we unite.
– Hagie

REHOBOTH Town Council you should have left the dirt roads alone and not covered them with red gravel. We can’t open our windows because of the dust and the heat is unbearable With every vehicle passing a cloud of dust descends on our houses. Mr Health Inspector take note. Who got the tender? for it seems Town Council tractors etc are being used. Just asking

General
IS it not strange how one can give a million reasons why you should not buy The Namibian newspaper only to catch him/her reading one!

Health Matters
I HOPE the Ministry of Health is aware that in the clinics nurses don’t have soap to wash their hands after handling the patients, and even uniforms need to look more professional. What are you doing about it?

TO Citizen of Namibian who doesn’t want to see foreign doctors practising medicine privately in Namibia we tell you we have not disadvantaged any Namibian. In any event we have contributed to the availabilty of service options and quality health service in Namibia.

TO the SMS on keeping foreign medical practitioners at public hospitals. You do know that Namibia has not been training doctors right? And that more than 80 per cent of doctors in private and public practice have always been foreign.

I HAVE a problem with measles. It starts with one spot, what can I do?
– If you have any spots and don’t feel well, contact your nearest clinic.
– Newsdesk

Sporting
ARICAN Stars and Orlando Pirates are contesting the 2009 - 2010 Domestic Football League. Please make them play the remaining games at the same time on the same day to avoid match fixing. It happens all over the world, so lets avoid it here.

Lost and Found
A GAWANAB I lost my briefcase with lots of important documents at Polytech. If found please contact 081-284-5917

I FOUND Mr Isaaks Gerald Henry’s ID and driving licence Code BE. Contact Sonia at 081-314-2317.

ANYONE who has found documents for Mr Abner Neputa Mwalegwa please call 081-216-1625.

Service Please
N$18 for a cup of bad coffee at Hosea Kutako Airport?! The majority of travellers are local people and are not loaded with U$. It is extortionate and greedy, dear Paragon. As the first and last stop for visitors to our beautiful country, it leaves a bitter taste. Please stop this World Cup greed, you are damaging Namibia’s image!

BANK Windhoek branch in Wernhil Park please improve your services, the tellers are very slow.

FNB ‘how can we help you’: your service is poorer by the week. No cash available at 09h30 at Hidas.

I THINK FNB Namibia should stop opening cheque accounts for non-citizens because your bank has got a policy not to give overdrafts to foreigners except when they have home loans.

AUSSPANNPLATZ Take-away install a washbasin, handwash gel and plastic gloves for your staff serving food. The flies are also too many! Cover food with big lids. Hope you will comply with this request.

Labour Issues
WE want to know what happened to the IT vacancies which have been advertised at the Office of Prime Minister since last year. We handed in our documents but have heard nothing.

Education
WE the officials working with loans in Room 104 categorically deny any practice of selling application forms. This allegation is untrue.

POLYTECHNIC library we are tired of waiting for students to use computers. They take hours while we wait and never get a chance. Our assignments are delayed. These are mostly fulltime students. One wonders when they attend class.

FOR how long will Namibians tolerate poor service delivery in our country? Unam, which is one of the smallest universities in Africa, takes days to register students. Are you aware of online registration?
– Fed up parent.

SCHOOL kids are stealing too much of their school mates stuff especially calculators, cellphones and many more. Just imaginehaving to buy a calculator every term or every year. Please principals, teachers and parents remind them every month.
