SMSes Of The Day

IT saddens me to know that women can throw away that cute bundle of joy. There are so many facilities, please make use of them and no obstacle in life stays forever.

CIVIL servants please stop driving Government vehicles during weekends. Use taxis or bicycles if you can’t afford cars!

– Rafik

Food for Thought

ON corruption. In order to combat corruption effectively in Namibia the Government must establish an Anti-Corruption Monitoring Commission which shall have powers to approve all contracts and tenders involving the public and the private sector; to monitor their implementation; to authorise payments; to receive and investigate financial reports of the above sectors and to monitor the activities of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

MR Sackeus Nambahu please do not sell puppies to the Chinese. They will cook and eat them at lunch or dinner time. Trade with other takeaways.

– Animal Lover

IT is indisputable that these days many older men are getting involved with young girls. If you are a young girl who is cheating with a married man, what do you think is happening in that man’s house? Come on girls, you have to wake up and smell the coffee!

Bouquets and Brickbats

THUMBS up for vet Dr Hartmut (Winterbach) and team who safely removed the lost cheetah from the Swakopmund residential area. A job well done for both animal and the residents. In Windhoek the cheetah would have been killed, like they did to that beautiful kudu. Such a shame!

THANKS to Home Affairs Walvis Bay for very quick service on my re-entry visa. Especially to the friendly officer who is receiving applications!

DR (Richard) Kamwi (Minister of Health) alone cannot solve all the problems of the Ministry of Health and Social Services. At least he is trying his best but it seems that his representatives in the regions are doing little to meet him half way in order to solve those problems. Maybe the community members can come with their input to help him.

Many Happy Returns

TO Bishop Zephania Kameeta. Happy birthday to you my son and my comrade. I have a son whose name is Zephania, your namesake. You are a hero, a fighter, a true visionary. May God bless you.

– Frans Nghidinihamba

Law and Order

UNTIL when will this madness continue? My 11-year-old daughter was robbed at knifepoint as she walked home from school along Safari Street. She’s traumatised.

SOMETHING needs to be done, our kids are no longer safe. My 10-year-old niece lives a stones throw from school but she was robbed of N$20 by having her arm twisted on her way home from school. What is happening to the men of our peaceful nation? Could it be lack of employment?

THE gun problem is created by the police because they give licences to people who don’t know how to use guns. They must ask questions as is the case with a driver’s licence. – Pahukeni, Oshakati.

CITY Police Chief (Mr Kanime) please send your City Police officers to riverbeds when kids are going to and coming school. Even today I witnessed such events (kids running because someone tried to grab their cellphones) in the riverbed at the end of Bach Street. How many students have been robbed and killed between the Polytechnic of Namibia and Windhoek North, Windhoek West, Dorado Park and Hochland Park? What are we waiting for? How many people must die before City Police can take action. Where are the motorbikes that were recently bought by the City for this this riverbed operation?

– Windhoek resident.

A REAL and honourable police officer listens and treats the public with respect. So who are these people walking around in uniforms in Namibia? Assaulting members of the public and also using excessive aggression while they interrogate their suspects. Most police officers and Goverment workers for that matter don’t even have a good command of the English language. What is the Goverment doing about these major problems besides driving around in black cars with tinted windows?

An Honest Penny

I AM puzzled by this scenario: you go to jail for making N$150 per week as a street vendor and sit at home in luxury for stealing millions of N$ from the public! You all lost my vote!

The GIPF Saga

PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba you told the citizens that you are anti-BIG. Can you then tell the civil servants and pensioners what your take is on the GIPF monies that have been squandered by the few untouchables. Nahas Angula as the head of civil service is mum on that issue. Surely somebody should inform the workers about the status of their money. Citizens lost faith in ACC; it seems that the Ombudsmans’ Office is on the same path. Sackey Namugongo was sentenced; justice should prevail. Surely the GIPF trustees should be brought to book.

– Kgalemang Morone, Katutura

WHEN laying charges against their defaulters GIPF should avoid selective morality. Why target Namibia Chicken Investment alone? What about others and for how long will the well-connected corrupt individuals enjoy immunity? Are they from heaven or why are they feared so much?

– Wala wOkomongwa

THE GIPF board of trustees should be dismissed. Are they telling us that a N$8,4 million loan was given from our pension monies during the period 2001 -2005, to a company which could not provide proper financial statements before securing the loan, but still got it? Why is it that the board only steps in now after five years has lapsed? It is disappointing to see that they only feel the need to disclose the information now. Who else owes the GIPF money? Let us know how you spend our hard-earned money? The government should step in before its too late!

Politics

LIKE everybody else Mr Paulus Kapia deserves a second chance. If he talks of social grants not being wasted, he meant that! Making a mistake in the past does not mean he is not a leader. Thanks for a good reality message Mr Kapia.

AS a concerned Namibian I disagree with having Paulus Kapia as a Member of Parliament while he still has the case of Avid pending. Is Namibia now ruled by a kleptocratic regime? Please, we want to know how and why he becomes a parliamentarian.

– Magano

HILJA M from Windhoek asked in the SMS how we feel being represented by Mr Paulus Kapia as an MP? Article 45 of the Namibian Constitution states, “The members of the National Assembly shall be representative of all the people and shall in the performance of their duties be guided by the objectives of this Constitution, by the public interest and by their conscience”. The presence of Mr Kapia is not in public or constitutional interest and his conscience may not be clear. We want our N$30 million.

MINISTER of Justice let justice work in Namibia. Put Paulus Kapia where he belongs but not in Parliament. As Namibians, we don’t want to be represented by such a person.

Running the Show

CAN someone take care of the Government flats in Ausspann-platz? They are in the city centre but they look bad. They are dirty. Please Ministry of Works do something.

Education

THE National Qualification Authority takes too long to evaluate qualifications; up to three months or more is just too long.

MINISTER (Abraham) Iyambo can you tell me whether a file will get a learner to read. Why is the focus of the Ministry so much on files? Let teachers focus on reading of learners please.

Moan moan moan

ONE: Dear ‘Complain’ you are doing exactly what you say you hate! Complain. Two: there are many positive SMSes. Three: How do you expect things to improve when no-one complains? We are not in North Korea here. Four: This is not the love, peace and feel good page.

IT’S back to square 1. The one complaining about too much complaining is also complaining. What about ‘Bouquets’? In Namibia there is more to complain about than to be thankful.

– Lady Ann

Sporting

UPDATE the NFA website! Comrades the world is moving forward very fast!

Health Matters

WHY can’t nurses at Katutura Clinic take turns to go for breakfast and lunch instead of all of them at the same time? Patients are suffering during that time.

SOCIAL workers in Windhoek. In front of Swabou, Independence Avenue and around the corner next to the bakery there are old people begging. Please fetch them and arrange for them to receive an old age pension!

MINISTER Kamwi the Nurses Homes are not flats. Meals are cooked in the main kitchen and served in the dining hall. The rooms are for sleeping, not for cooking as if you are in a flat!

UNTIL 1993/4 both Nurses Homes in Windhoek were impeccable! All rules were obeyed, we respected the caretakers, cooks, cleaners etc. Only nurses from outside Windhoek, on night duty and those attending classes could’ve stayed in during such periods. No fat life. No families!

In and From the Regions

LUCKY Dube said all they build will be prisons and he was so right. In the south we have new police stations in Rosh Pinah and Luderitz with cells ready to be filled but a crumbling hospital in Luderitz and overcrowded clinic in Rosh Pinah. Who can we turn to?

THE Councillor of Omulonga Consituency when are the Mwafangeyo CS and Eexumba Cs going to be electrified? It negatively affects the progress of our learners.

– C

KRIESS in Hardap Region has been provided with poles and wire but we are waiting for the installatation of power. We are voters – please act.

– Mr Rooinasie

DISABLED people are mistreated in Oshana Region, they have no rights at all. Nobody cares about these people to be honest.

HI Ministry of Environment and Tourism. I want to ask about the shebeen in Etosha at Andersson Gate. Who allowed a shebeen to be opened? There is school there. Please do something about this.

– Festus Komob

I AM 33 years old and reside in Lüderitz. Since I can remember electricity to our town has, and is still, being cut mostly during weekends for the Municipality to do work on electric cables. This has been going on for years. Can the Town Council not fix this problem once and for all?

– ‘Die Leeu’

CAN someone please do something in Otavi regarding electricity in Saamstaan location.

TO the Minister of Home Affairs: your Ministry is already in a mess concerning the issue of national documents. We have travelled from Outjo to Otjiwarongo to pay for our passport applications just to be told that the supervisor is attending a workshop and no payments can be made since she has left the office with the receipt book. Can you please call your staff to order.

Labour Issues

ALLOW me to air my disappointment on unemployment. Most jobs advertised require experience, mostly up to 5 years. Take a 2008 matriculant for example. Are they going to stay unemployed forever just because they lack experience. Please let us look into this issue. It is killing our youth and leads to crime.

NBC

I APPRECIATE the talk shows on NBC TV. Can NBC introduce a mobile number to make it easy especially now that we have aweh aweh.

– Kawana, Otjiwarongo

CAN’T NBC remove some boring documentaries and talk shows and slot in Big Brother Africa? We pay our TV licences and we are missing the best reality show in Africa?

Note: We understand that the NBC has been advertising that they will be running a weekly highlights show on Sundays, but that this has not materialised yet.

– News Desk

Service Please

WE want a Cell One tower in Kamanjab please. Some of us have 3G for Cell One and there’s no network coverage.

ACC Alert

ACC investigate Tsumeb NaTIS because people who can’t drive heavy trucks are given licences to be employed at the expense of experienced drivers.

– Employer Otavi Village Council.

Taxi Talk

NABTA please insist that your owners’ dirty taxis go to a proper car wash at least once a week. They’re unhygenic! We the customers deserve better service for our hard-earned N$8. Do something or else they will be named and shamed.

Lost and Found

Bunch of keys on pink lanyard found in Indepenence Avenue near the High Court. Name on tag Nkungu Obert.

CLARESSA Janette Visagie and Jack Anthony Visagie I picked up your ID cards. To get them call me on 081-147-4320.

Responses to recent SMSes

From the Ministry of Education

Minister A Iyambo, I need information from your office. When a teacher must go on maternity leave who must find a replacement teacher and who must pay the teacher?

The School Management in conjunction with the Directorate of Education in each region are responsible for securing a replacement for teachers going on maternity leave and equally responsible to remunerate relieve teachers.

I would like to hear about the application forms for the teaching college recently merged with Unam. Please education directors keep us informed, the time is ripe and we want to apply to higher institutions.

All applications and admission to the Faculty of Education will be handled by the University Of Namibia (Unam) because the colleges of Education have been merged into Unam.

From NBC

NBC, can you please shed light on what is happening with your radio and TV network in Okongo.

We are aware of the difficulties you are experiencing with our network in Okongo. Rest assured that our technicians are working around the clock to rectify the problem. Within the next two to three days, you should be able to receive our radio and TV signals again. We ask for your patience in this regard.

NBC. I just want to find out. We have choirs all over the country. Is NBC’s new programme only for Windhoek choirs.

NBC caters for the entire nation and tries to incorporate all choirs during its Sunday programmes. We also rely on choirs to provide their material. If there are choirs from outside the capital, that would like to submit their music videos, they are more than welcome to do so.

Their material should be sent to the following address: NBC TV Programmes PO Box 321, Windhoek

MAINTENANCE. How long does it take for the maintenance money to come through because it’s four months now since I applied and all I am being told is that the papers are not done yet. I am a student and unemployed and don’t know what to do anymore. Please someone tell me if it takes longer than that.

There is no set time for maintenance cases to be finalised because each case is different. If you feel that your request for a maintenance order is taking too long to be finalised, we suggest that you go back to the court to find out exactly why the delay is occurring. It may be that the court does not have information they need and you may be able to provide this. If your case continues to be delayed without a good reason, we suggest that you report it to the Magistrate of the court and then to the Chief of the Lower Courts if necessary.
