SMSes for Tuesday 31 August 2010

* WHY do some people think that free plastic bags are a God-given right ? They (bags ) should be banned. KFC has replaced all plastic with paper. Well done! May the rest do so as well!   * OUR Government should start to enforce laws to educate people on family planning. Imagine 8 children. No work and nowhere to stay. Children need love, care and education.

Food for Thought

* FAKE whiskey/whisky is the order of the day in Namibia. What are consumer’s rights? Fakes even at upmarket places such as the new place in Tsumeb.

Happy 25th Birthday
* HAPPY birthday to the most progressive, educational and consistent newspaper in the country. Your contribution to the liberation of Namibia is self-evident despite what your detractors would like us to believe. Many happy returns and keep ‘telling it like it is’.
– Avid reader, Walvis Bay.

* CONGRATULATIONS Gwen and team for 25 years of excellent work. What can I say but keep up the good work. Thanks Dudley for a lovely cartoon of Gwen showing her true colours.
– Yo fan Niko

* WELL done! Congratulations once more to Gwen and her entire team since day one for their dedication, perseverance, passion and love for their craft. You have contributed immensely to our society. Gwen special thanks to you – you are a legend indeed. May you prosper in all your endeavours onward ever. The team continuing without her, may you still tell it as it is. Kei gangans.
– Janet, Keetmanshoop

* THROUGH thick and thin you still remain unwavering, dedicated, loved and respected by the Namibian community.

* CONGRATULATIONS to The Namibian paper and the people behind it. May you have many more years of being a part of our daily lives.

* I AM a fully paid-up member of Swapo and I like The Namibian newspaper. We cannot ignore the true patriots.

* I FELT pity for Ms Gwen Lister and the entire The Namibian staff at that time (early days of the paper). Congratulations guys and Ms Gwen. You are a brave woman that never showed any fear. May God bless you and have a long life.

* THE Namibian newspaper, the Editor and staff – I wish you a happy birthday. May God grant you all his blessings from above. Please keep ‘telling it like it is’. Long live The Namibian!
– H Josua

* HAPPY birthday to The Namibian for a job well done over the last 25 years. Keep up the good work and good luck.

Bouquets and Brickbats
* CONGRATULATIONS to Chief Goliath and Mrs Ida Jimmy for the awards received on Heroes Day.
– Levi Vries

* WE do appreciate our fighters of 26 August 1966, but we need to also hear from those who brought our Independence.
– Kiito, Windhoek

* “ON 21 March 1990 we buried the ugly apartheid past” ... reads President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s speech at the Heroes Acre at Luderitz. Mr President we seem to have not buried it properly or at all because freedom of expression continues to be curtailed.

* I’VE stopped informing the City Police via 4444. They never appear.

* STOP the stupidity! The women seen dancing with the president at the Naute Dam is not an unknown and unidentified old Nama woman. Her name is Ruth Goliath, a prominent Nama person who is a resident of Keetmanshoop. Please note that an injury to one is injury to all. The remains of our people have just been reburied without us knowing who they are whereas the recently unearthed human remains in the North are traceable in the annals of the Namibian history.

* AM so disappointed right now. JJD’s dancing competition has been cancelled AGAIN! I mean this is so unprofessional. I think it’s maybe the second or third time that it’s being cancelled. Now what’s next?

* THE cartoon ‘Ndeshi & Jakes’ of Friday, August 27 is sick to say the least. The cartoonist is insinuating that God is not the ultimate solution to our problems. Get rid of him/her NOW. Enough is is enough.
– Bernab.

Labour Issues
* CAN anybody please help me? I am working at a Chinese store and am getting N$500. Can you please tell me where to go and report for my pay to be increased?

* I WANT to ask that the Government makes sure that our employers work out our salaries correctly because I don’t know how much percentage is tax at the end of the month. Please Government let the people responsible for finance access the companies and inspect how they work. Our tax is too high.

And Justice for All
* HOW can even the Namibian Head State allow Governor Boois who is being prosecuted in court because of alleged corruption to stand in front of the nation and address it?
Note: Governor Boois has not been convicted of any crime and in our justice system one is presumed innocent until found guilty. It is also the prerogative of the organisers to invite whom they choose.
– News Desk

* HOW do we let people with fraud cases pending have space for speeches on the news bulletin? NBC please get real news.
Note: See response above.
– News Desk

* CRIME: Can someone out there say something on this topic. Is every person in prison or in the cells guilty?

Business as Usual
* I CAN’T understand why Trans-Namib management is complaining there is no money. There is money. We have debtors that have been outstanding for years now with an amount of around N$60 million. The question is what is the finance department doing. Just collect the outstanding debts and we will be out of the red as alleged by management.

In and From the Regions
* ROADS authority; there are too many bushes on the roadside of the C35 north of Kamanjab. There are lots of goats, cattle and kudus. The bushes grow right on the edge of the tar.

* CEO of Omaruru what mechanism did your Council use to award the tenders?
– Mbaurua mbuae

Education
* THE ex-Sierra Leonean Namibian students extend an invitation to colleagues who studied in West African countries to join them for a meeting on September 11 at Cimbebasia in preparation for a big reunion. Contact 081-128-1385 or 081-122-3501 for directions.

* AROUND 150 learners at my school have not had chairs and tables since 2008. My school is totally ignored by the Ohangwena procurement people. Believe me or not.
– Peter.

* THE Ministry of Education is starving its relief teachers in Ohangwena Region. How can a person travel for 250 km to work for three months without pay and without meals. The salary office blames Windhoek staff but fails to give feedback received from Windhoek. Where are the salaries Mr PS?

* FOR how long do we need to wait before we get our refunds from the Polytech? I applied on July 26 but still nothing yet. Please we need that money to buy books.
– Student

ACC Alert
* Mr (Paulus) Noa how far are you with the investigation of high ranking officials’ children offered Chinese scholarships?
– King P.

* COULD the Government explain why the Anti-Corruption Commission is not mandated to investigate irregularities or corruption in the local NGOs within civil society but only government related institutions? These are local NGOs operating in Namibia and where do we report them if things are not right? Please advise.
– Lalita

NBC
* CAN someone from NBC tell us what happened with the English Premier League games being shown on NBC?

Response to recent SMSes

From NBC
* PLEASE let’s respect the history of our country. I was so impressed by Pendukeni Ithana and ex-Swapo freedom fighter Zulu on August 26th and request NBC Oshiwambo Service to sacrifice three hours for this man and four hours for Minister Ithana so that they can tell more about their struggle for Independence. Maybe they can produce CDs telling about their struggle struggle. People like me won’t hesitate to buy because I love history so much. Otherwise they can go to NBC and record their history so we can hear this even on weekends.

* SADC SMS of August 27: Madagascar isn’t worse than Zimbabwe! The latter is the one which needs much more discipline!

* THANKS for the response but it would have been better if you mention only one shop name where I can find both black and white dolls.
– Papa Rasta
