SMS Of The Day

PROSECUTOR General Martha Imalwa and Minister of Justice Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana forget about being able to map out a unified and coordinated approach in the fight against crime in the absence of a civil society. United we stand, divided we fall!

– The Eagle’s Eye

Food for Thought

CAN one really say the inflation rate in our country is stable? While food, electricity and water prices are increasing as life is becoming more expensive for the average or poor citizen.

– E Ihuhua

An Honest Penny

SUNDAY’S ‘Open File’ topic of discussion on the City Police going after street vendors is really upsetting. The City of Windhoek must exercise compassion in the light of the very high rate of unemployment and increasing crime rate. It is crazy!

MINISTER Tjekero Tweya, we can only ensure economic growth if we allow street venders to do business. City of Windhoek, you are an enemy of economic growth and poverty reduction.

– Local entrepreneur.

DEPUTY Minister (Tjekero Tweya) how can we ensure economic development in our country when the City of Windhoek always dislocates street venders? Let’s be honest with each other.

– Namibian local entrepreneur.

I REALLY don’t understand why the City of Windhoek is doing that to the vendors. Those people are surviving from selling their goods. Once you chase those people out, later on they will start to steal because there is no other way of getting their income. Please let the City Police go to the riverbeds and get criminals who are killing people. They must leave those people who sell their goods to survive please.

AS I am writing here I’m watching ‘Open File” about those who are struggling to survive from selling food. You go to lock them up in the jail and leave botsotsos to roam around in the street. That is why the crime rate is so high in our country.

– AB from Windhoek

Bouquets and Brickbats

AFTER being admitted to Central Hospital about one month ago, I realised to my surprise that it’s clean and beautiful (no cockroaches)!

– Thilda Majiedt

GOD bless you Mama Sara Elago you are a saint. The ‘Tupopyeni’ programme August 3 on NBC TV was an indication that we can make a change in peoples’ lives if we love our fellow human beings more. I am appealing to those who are able to assist to support Mama Elago’s Turning Point Programme because it is worth it.

MAINTENANCE. How long does it take for the maintenance money to come through because it’s four months now since I applied and all I am being told is that the papers are not done yet. I am a student and unemployed and don’t know what to do anymore. Please someone tell me if it takes longer than that.

Law and Order

TWO people have been murdered by horrible stabbings! Yet the ignorant still believe that guns are the problem! Guns and knives do not kill, people do!

INSPECTOR General of Namibian Police, are your police officers working according to the rules? My nephew was travelling from Windhoek to the North to get an ID at Outapi. When he arrived at Oshivelo some of the female police officers took him from the bus because he didn’t have a document. He stayed there for three hours and later one of the police officers ask her to give him the amount of N$200 to allow him to go.

I WONDER why one is fined so heavily by law enforcement officers if you didn’t fasten your seat belt? The fact is I put my life at risk, but not the life of other road users.

Running the Show

MEME (Rosalia) Nghidinwa where does one go when Namibian officials at Eenhana refuse a 20-year-old boy a birth certificate although all documents were provided. They are saying that particular boy isn’t the mother’s son and nor is he a Namibian. Is it a sin to be born into an illiterate family? Is it the boy’s fault the mother and the father separated while he was a baby? These officals asked for a conformation letter from the headman of the village where he was born and still lives. They asked for the baptism certificate. They asked for police declarations. They asked for birth certificates of this woman’s other children. All this was issued to them at a cost of seven trips from home to Eenhana only to be told that her child is not a Namibian. They took her national documents from her and sent her away empty handed saying that she has to go and bring the father’s family. As a matter of fact there is a half-sister born from the same father of this boy working there as a policewoman. Can the Goverment pay for a DNA test between this boy and his brothers, who proved their Namibian citizenship, to prove to these officials that he is indeed a Namibian and needs national documents.

GIPF Saga

LET’S do maths: Sackey (Namugongo) pockets N$0.3325 million and receives eight years. A GIPF-DCP recipient pockets N$65 million and receives how many years? Solution in which issue?

Taxi Talk

I REALLY think we should have more woman taxi drivers. This morning August 9 I saw a minibus No N123 with a woman driver and she drives properly, not like all the other drivers that put your life in danger.

KEETMANSHOOP Taxi Association! Does Nabta know about such an association? Some taxis in Keetmanshoop are charging N$8.50. They have a letter from that association with price lists which are different from place to place, for example from town to the Ministry of Education, the letter says they charge N$12.50. Is this legal?

Politics

IT is completely wrong for Mr Paulus Kapia to be a Member of Parliament while he is still a suspect in the Avid case. There are many people who can do the same job better than Kapia. Whoever elected him? To all the Namibian people, how do you feel about being   represented by a person who is not in the clear?

– Hilja M from Windhoek

Politics in General

CHIPO Zindoga, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia. It’s amazing how much you passionately support Robert Mugabe when half the population is surviving through food aid and their human rights are being trampled.

– Griffin

Health Matters

WHY is there a gap or difference between enrolled nurses and registered nurses in terms of remuneration if they all do the same work and it’s only two years study difference. Please Mr Kamwi answer us.

City Fathers Please...

CAN the SPCA or Windhoek City Police get rid of the stray dogs that loiter around Rocky Crest’s Iceland Street. They have become a serious health hazard and threaten our safety.

Education

WHERE in Namibia can I find a school for deaf-and-dumb children?

Note: You can contact the National Institute for Special Education in Windhoek (061) 212659 for information.

– News Desk

OSHANA’S Nantu regional committee is dead. We teachers in Oshana Region are relying on Oshikoto or Ohangwena to get feedback on matters affecting us. Why is our money being deducted for services not rendered?

– Affected teacher, Eheke Circuit, Oshana

Responses to recent SMSes

From NBC

NBC SMS COMPETITIONS. Please advise who won the N$10 000 World Cup draw and there was also a house competition last year?

NBC allows companies to air their competitions in the advertising space made available. The House competition was run by Capital Construction. Please contact Mr Heins at 081 128 5412 to follow up on the winners. The NBC would like to congratulate Ms Helena Kasheeta who won the N$10 000 in the World Cup competition. We would like to thank all those that have participated.

From Namcol

THIS is in response to the SMS placed on Wednesday on the use of cassette tapes for Namcol learners. Namcol has just conducted a study on the preference of learners for cassette tapes or CD ROMs. Emanating from the research, 41 per cent of learners still prefer cassettes, whereas 47 per cent prefer CD ROMs. Guided by these results, the College decided to continue using cassettes because learners especially in rural areas have no access to CD players. We will fully switch over to the use of CD ROMS in 2012. However, at all the centres, CD players and CDs will be made available for tutors to use during contact sessions.

TO the person who was whinging about the complaints, are you not complaining then?

WHY do women fall pregnant because the man doesn’t want to wear a condom! Rubbish! He isn’t having sex with himself! Why don’t you go on the pill? If you don’t go to town often enough, go on the injection. One lasts for months! Stop whining! Take responsibility! No condom means spread of AIDS! Is that fair?

A SUGGESTION that the public should pay for security against crime is ridiculous! When are those imprisoned for crime going to be deployed in cleaning up those very areas where they used to perpetrate their crimes against innocent civilians? It would be an effective means of harnessing a resource at no extra cost and make them pay back to society in a meaningful way.
