Food for Thought
* I WONDER why Namibian woman fight firmly against rape and murder cases where men are the suspects ... but in cases like baby dumping they keep quiet and don’t march around because it’s they who are affected. Wake up Namibian women and fight for human righteousness – no gender equality if you’re one-sided.
– Kapendaa Hepundjua, Okakarara.
* WHY do politicians always decide to travel around the city during peak hour traffic? Seriously, the whole world stands still when they are on the move from one place to the next, it’s crazy.
Bouquets and Brickbats
* POLICE officers like Constable Colonel Kalundu gives me hope for a good Police Force. (The officer in question was recently stabbed when trying to break up a fight – News desk).
* GIPF case. I salute Henning Melber. This money is supposed to be used on poverty reduction programmes. Why a few individuals only?
– ES, Outapi
* THOSE complaining about ‘Ndeshi and Jakes’, if you don’t like the cartoons – my advice is don’t look at them. Others, like me, like the message put forward.
– Sheya
* WE are complaining about shebeens and alcoholism. Nobody in power is willing to act tangibly. What’s the use of leaders talking about alcohol abuse in Namibia. Talk remains talk as long as we just talk. Please start doing something.
* I TAKE it that our leaders have lost it against shebeenism! That’s it. God help this nation.
Many Happy Returns
* TODAY the sun has risen for somebody very special. He divides his hunger with others, listens to problems. Happy Birthday our President Pohamba. Let the light of the Lord shine on you. We are very proud of you.
* THE Unam Education Society president and all members would like to wish President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba a happy birthday!
SADC
* I WOULD like to thank Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe for teaching us the youth about the history of colonial rule and how our freedom came as African people.
– Baloyi
* I WAS following proceedings of the SADC Jubilee Summit held at the Safari Hotel. Considering how the hall was packed, the attendance was overwhelming! However, I observed in dismay how our founding fathers, people who spearheaded and fought for the liberation of the SADC States, as well as other delegates, were packed in rows! The seating arrangement was far from desirable. Why can’t Government set aside funds to erect a conference centre to take care of such high level events? Besides Namibia is a host to important regional bodies such as the SACU, SADC Parliamentary Forum and now we are the chair of the SADC for the next how many years? Just an observation!
* BELIEVE it or not. (President) Robert Mugabe is untouchable, especially within the SADC bloc at least. SADC requires another six months to act on Zimbabwe. Even Madagascar came after Zimbabwe. This SADC organisation is indeed a serious and costly joke.
– Nado
Politics in General
* WHY is it only when President Robert Mugabe does his shopping, the world must know? Don’t other Presidents go shopping? The media are unfair to him.
Running the Show
* MINISTRY of Trade, Ministry of Finance. Re: Vendors. One of them said on ‘Open File’ that she can make up to N$400 per day. This can be up to N$12 000 per month. Do the vendors pay tax?
And Justice for All
* ARTICLE 78 (3) of the Namibian Constitution is very clear on prohibition of interference with Judges or judicial officers in the exercise of their judicial functions. Undue pressure on the judiciary and ‘threats of unspecified actions’ is a clear evidence of such interference. Please Namibians lets respect our Constitution and leave to the judiciary what the Constitution requires it to perform. Let’s protect the independence, dignity and effectiveness of our judiciary. We do not want haphazard judgements.

In and From the Regions
* ON behalf of Uukwangula and the surrounding community, I would like to let you know that closing the library is a great loss of knowledge to us the youth. We would kindly ask you to re-open the library because the information and resources that we need are there. We need to grow in education and you are denying us that opportunity.
– Nahas Shinana.
* NWR is killing the tourism industry with high prices at our parks. Normally tourists don’t travel to countries like Namibia for luxuries but at least they expect the standards to be maintained. Most of the overseas tourists are people earning an average income or retired. Instead of NWR renovating the facilities to an acceptable standard they turned them into luxury places and this is killing the parastatal.
* ONDANGWA Town Council or Nampol please do something. We at Ya Toivo SSS are busy with our exams but there’s a house opposite our school disturbing us with loud music. Please warn this man. We are tired of not being able to concentrate during study time.
– Twalulilwa
* IS Rosh Pinah an island in Namibia? Why does the Sidadi Clinic not treat patients with Government medical aid?
* HELAO Nafidi Town Council please do something with the gravel roads in Ohangwena town! Dusty conditions in the early evening are a serious health problem especially for those of us with eye allergies.
– Kanghameni
Health Matters
* MR (Richard) Kamwi how do you expect neonatal and maternal deaths to reduce if nurses are working alone on duty in maternity wards day and night? Do something first.
Running the Show
* THIS message is for the Minister of Home Affairs, she is busy rejecting work permits for our comrade brothers and sisters who have registered companies in Namibia. I don’t think the Minister of Trade and Industry is aware that the business owners of companies registered at the Trade Ministry are being chased away by Home Affairs. My advice to the Minister is that these comrades gave us shelter during the struggle for our freedom. Now they are here to share technological know-how, training us in various fields, yet they are being chased away. I am really disappointed with Home Affairs because I work for a company belonging to a foreigner (I don’t want to mention the country because that country was instrumental in the fight for our freedom). I feel disturbed now my job is at stake. Who will feed my family? I get a salary of N$4 000 per month. Will Home Affairs feed my children? Or help me?
Law and Order
* I READ an article in the Government newspaper ‘Cops tired of road carnage’. Cops know very well that the way forward to limit these accidents is to put speed limits on those buses – 120km/h. Every bus should be mechanically speed-reduced and we won’t see this unfortunate overtaking. Just imagine telling a 25-year-old driver not to exceed 120! Of course they will, because they can go up to 220. By limiting the speed we will reduce these deaths. If we have to change the law or bring in a new one, so be it. Period.
The BIG Picture
* TO whose tune is Mr (David) Namalenga dancing? How could he shout down the Basic Income Grant (BIG) on national television? Sir, you are a disgrace to Namibian workers!
– Radical Sem
Education
* IT is important for our educational system to have technical and computer training as free compulsory subjects in all public schools and free education for all, because some people finish school without skills and practical knowledge.
– Nauta, Outapi
* THE Polytech is teaching labour law as a subject but they do not welcome unions on their grounds. Double standards.
Labour Issues
* HOW sad to learn about the high unemployment rate in Namibia. Even sadder when you try to recruit staff for a restaurant and the answer from a recruitment agency has been that people do not want to work on weekends. The Government must issue work permits for Zimbabweans. They are willing to work and have good skills.
