SMSes for Thursday 12 August 2010

SMS Of The Day

IF you have time to whine and complain about something, then you have time to do something about it.

Food for Thought

I WAS shocked by the Cabinet resolution to give the powers to the President to appoint governors (unconstitutional); instead of them being elected by the fellow councillors (constitutional). This is a sign of our not-so-strong and new democracy fading away into thin air. Today it is the governors that are to be appointed, next time even councillors will be appointed. Democracy in Namibia is fragile and it needs to be nurtured; not be attacked and eventually destroyed. I am begging our executive to refrain from amending our democratic tools to weaken them but should rather strengthen them.

Bouquets and Brickbats

I VISITED Eembaxu Combined School. It’s in the village but you can’t believe what their pre-primary class looks like! It’s very attractive like other pre-school classes in Windhoek! So teachers stop giving excuses that your schools are in the village! Make the classrooms conducive for our children! Eembaxu keep it up!

TO (Health) Minister (Richard) Kamwi, I am very grateful for your visit to Outapi Hospital.

THANKS for clearing the bushes. Advice: Target the men also who rape and kill as well as the communities where they live! 1. Ministy of Women’s Affairs conduct workshops with them. 2. Ministry of Social Welfare do social work amongst them.

ERONGO Region. Swakopmund’s Mondesa graveyard is the place to be laid to rest if one dies. I attended the burial of a colleague last Saturday in Mondesa and I was at peace to see that Swakopmund councillors are doing their jobs! Attractive, inviting and super clean. I just hope other towns’ councillors follow suit on this one!

– Madi, Tsumeb

I HAVE never found ‘Ndeshi & Jakes’ to be funny at all. Last Friday’s cartoon explains it all. Please take it out of your paper.

NAMIBIAN Police in Windhoek and City Police: Botsotsos are visible walking in the streets selling stolen goods from their pockets, mugging people, stealing from cars. We see that daily! They are the ones you must lock up, not the street vendors!

THE Police at roadblocks are just checking whether the drivers and co-drivers have buckled up! All minibuses, except Ivecos and Quantums, have no seatbelts for passengers. They have a 100 km speed limit indicated, but they are speeding.

Running the Show

WHEN will the Namibian Government stop buying expensive cars for billions, while there are people who are suffering?

PRIME Minister Nahas Angula when are you going to give the ex-combatants a better salary, housing, car allowance? Soldiers are suffering. Many of them are due to retire without even shelter. Do something. Look at examples from other neighbouring countries on how they pay their soldiers.

– Ndjekela.

MINISTRY of Works go to Okuryangava and see how Government houses are vandalised by police members. Sell the houses to people in need please.

– Concerned person

GOVERNMENT has constructed the Namibia Institute for Public Administration and Management (Nipam). Could the Government not have bought the former Continental Hotel to host people from outside Windhoek for cost saving?

Politics

I JUST want to respond to the SMS about it not being in the national interest for Mr Kapia to be in the National Assembly. This is wrong because he didn’t put himself there but the voters did. I advise him or her to listen to the message he delivered and that will not make him a bad MP at all.

DEAR Magano, Kapia was just a board member like any other members of State Owned Enterprises where money was lost. Wait for the court to decide. We sent him to Parliament for a reason.

I DISAGREE with Mr Paulus Kapia being a Member of Parliament while he is still a suspect. If so how do we describe our country? The Namibian Constitution does not tolerate real or perceived corrupt practices.

– B Stancy

GIPF Saga

WHO masterminded the authorisation of GIPF loans via DCP? Since when did the Pension Fund become a cash loan for non– GIPF members?

IF the Anti-Corruption Commision cannot do anything about the (alleged) corruption at the GIPF, there is nothing preventing the police from investigating and presenting the docket to the Prosecutor General just as the ACC would do. So leave the excuses.

Education

THANKS Minister (of Education, Abrahan Iyambo) for speaking on behalf of unemployed Zim-trained teachers. May you please put it in black and white then forward the circular to our administrators to rescue us from their ignorance. This will also reduce our learners’ failure and the unemployment rate.

I AM a teacher who is highly concerned about discipline in high schools, especially in Khomas. Can the Minister launch an anti-crime campaign because most learners are involving themselves in criminal activities and they are absent due to court cases and threaten educators and this leads to a high failure rate. We are trying to teach knowledge, skills but discipline remains a big obstacle. Please help us.

Health Matters

BEFORE  Minister (Richard) Kamwi goes to the regions he must tell us why patients at the mental hospital here in Windhoek are using the bucket system. Toilets have been out of order for more than five years now. Isolation rooms have had no lights for three years now. How then can we deliver as expected under such conditions?  We talk but nobody hears us.  Windhoek Central Hospital knows about this problems; but it seems they just don’t care at all. Maybe it is because it’s a ‘mental hospital’.

– Very fed up nurse

SWAKOPMUND State Hospital ARV out-reach, you are always late in delivering your service. Please come on time. Thanks for the service anyway!

CAN HIV prisoners be isolated from others to prevent the disease from spreading at police cells and prisons?

IS there a standard for medical practice in this country? For instance where do the public lay their complaints against medical practitioners? A two-year-old was taken to a doctor who prescribed weight loss tablets or charges patients extra for being obese. Is this an acceptable practice?

Business As Usual

On page 9, August10 Job Amupanda said that the BEE policy was introduced (now only) after 20 years. That is wrong! BEE has existed for many many years. (Editor, what’s the date?) I still remember the photos in your paper of the first BEE members: those were already rich black people!

General

CAN The Namibian please confirm whether Chelsea Clinton is indeed in the country on honeymoon or not?

Note: Yes, she is on honeymoon here. – News desk

WHO is regulating SMS competitions in Namibia?

Note: Can someone shed some light here please.

– News Desk

PEOPLE are being robbed while G4s guards are doing car washing at Game shopping centre. What is the use of that?

IF the police shoot a thug who was running away; we complain. If a thug kills or robs someone; we still complain. Is that not confusing? My good people let’s take one side and work together as a team. It is the only way to success. I personally have trust in the police, not in the  courts.

And The Winner Is!

IS there a regulating body for these mushrooming SMS competitions in this country?

– Papuky

City Fathers Please...

PLEASE a request that humps be built in Rocky Crest on the top of the hill near the shop. People ignore the stop signs and drive right through at high speed.

CITY Police, there’s a house in Elim Street, Soweto, selling drugs. There was an article in The Namibian about a women arrested in Lusaka with drugs and her residential address was Elim Street. There are even City Police officials staying in Elim Street, but they don’t do anything. Please do something City Police.

– Elim resident.

In and From the Regions

RURAL Water Supply please fix the solar at Makanga village in Caprivi Region. There’s a shortage of water due to the continuous problem which has been reported many times

WHEN will the interviews for the adult education district officers at Omatako and Tsumkwe be held? It’s three months now after the due date. Also that of regional literacy organiser in Khomas. Please inform us. Does it take half a year to fill a post?

Responses to recent SMSes

REGISTERED nurses and enrolled nurses don’t do the same work. Go back and consult the two scopes of practice. Totally different.

I SUPPORT that SMS on the files. In our old days there were no files but we would read and write better. Focus on files is killing Vision 2030.

–  Aranos teacher.
