SMSes for Monday 16 August 2010

* DO these people who dump babies and abort them know how people feel who are unable to conceive! Can’t they realise that their unwanted children can bring joy to the lives of others!! Please stop this. It breaks my heart reading these reports. – Childless Mother.

Food for Thought
* I’M sure other teenagers like myself would agree that Windhoek doesn’t offer too much entertainment for people of our age which is why we tend to hang out at the Mall over weekends. Is it too much to ask that the security guards at the Mall assist us when we are threatened by groups who intimidate and frighten us? Could the management at the Mall please improve the security there so that we can feel safe when we go to enjoy ourselves.

Bouquets and Brickbats
* I APPLAUD Nora Schimming’s letter of August 13 about The Greater Good – we want to feel and to be part of one unified; forward-looking nation with a fair deal for everyone.
– Sarie Maritz

* THANK you new blood at Home Affairs for listening to the public. Now investigate your senior officials running permit consultancies and channelling Government work to their agencies. How can a vendor in the street get a permit and a business owner, a technical person working for Government, not get one. This is taking place on your doorstep madam. Your trusted people are letting you down and the SADC region.

* BRAVO to Minister (Abraham) Iyambo for his unexpected visits to his workers. Can he make the next one on any Friday afternoon please?

* THANK you Namcol for your DVD response. One more request, make it flexible to all in the coming years for people to choose either a cassette or a DVD like we do with subjects. Thanks The Namibian team for making it possible for our voices to be heard.
– Muna

* MR (Hage) Geingob; your speech about the Chinese is pathetic. China a friendly power? Where did you dream this? They walk over everyone and then destroy. Wake up!

* RE Mr Hage Geingob’s statement that Chinese residents are welcome in Namibia. First it was colonial rule from Berlin. Then from Pretoria and within a few years it will be from Beijing. Good bye Namibian independence!

* FAKE booze rocks Namibia. Interesting to spot a fake if we don’t even produce it. It shows the level of addiction and how well we remember brands.
– Elia

* TO be honest ‘Ndeshi & Jakes’ is the best cartoon. Keep it up. To the person suggesting ‘Ndeshi’ must stop remember what is not funny to you is funny to others.
– Zonke

* SLEEP deprivation = Polytech Cultural Week!
 –  Insomnia

* IN your issue of Wednesday, August 11 ‘Notable quotes’ please Mr Salomao we need to increase poverty eradication efforts. The Namibian don’t quote statements like those.

* I THOUGHT Gazza was and still is the Education Ambassador for the Ministry of Education but what is this now that he is doing Tafel Lager’s drinking promotion competition? Does he think it is appropriate for him as an Education Ambassador to do that? I find it very confusing.
– Concerned Teacher.

On the March
* WHAT is this demon(stration) by the RDP supporters really all about vakwetu? Is it the first time there has been a delay in announcing a judgement in a case before a court in Namibia?
– Mr Dick, Ondangwa.

* JUSTICE denied. Nobody came out to receive the election petition at the Supreme Court, while in Oshakati the election petition was received by Police to give it to the court on Monday. Why not in Windhoek? Inspector General Ndeitunga must answer.

* I THINK it is tantamount to a restriction of freedom of expression if the Police has to give its approval before a demonstration can take place. Police only needs to be notified. It is then up to the Police to make their own logistical arrangements. If a group wants to demonstrate against SADC or a visiting Head of State the Police should not look for vague reasons. The government only fears the embarrassment such a demonstration may cause.

* THE Namibian people should know that there is no law that says people need a permission or protection from the Police in order to participate in peaceful demonstrations. Protection from what? The Police’s job is to maintain law and order; this means to prevent the violation of the law and not the fulfilment of the law by citizens. The Namibian Constitution is very clear in dictating that freedom of speech and expression is inviolable by anyone. The SADC servants (Heads of States) are not above the law. What if it was in their countries in which the election’s results were not cleared for over 10 months? The Namibian authority has made its “embarrassing” bed; so it must lie on it!
– Steven Mvula; Human Rights Activist

* The RDP and others are first in line for police protection. Foreign dignitaries come second. The RDP pay Namibian taxes. Foreign dignitaries pay a lot less.

Southern African Development Community
* PLEASE News Desk can you please help me before I mislead my children, which countries are SADC member states? I thought DRC geographically was in central Africa. I’m not very good in geography.
– Concerned parent.
Note: The members of SADC are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho,  Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania,  Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Seychelles. Madagascar is currently suspended after the coup d’état led by the former mayor of Antananarivo Andry Rajoelina in March 2009.
– News Desk

Business as Usual
* I WELCOME the Chinese traders in Namibia but I would like to humbly request our Chinese brothers and sisters to leave the Namibian people with their cultural outfits. If our Chinese siblings really want to trade in good faith; please bring in the top quality material for any of our traditional outfits.

* ARE the Chinese construction companies above Namibian laws? They treat workers unfairly and even beat us. They are untouchables to the Government which will do nothing. Fellow Namibians let’s stand together like South Africans to make them aware that this is Namibia!

* NBC is showing us the Malawian youth running their small businesses in the streets. To Swapo Party government’s shame; the street vendors in Namibia are being arrested. It instead promotes the unfair competition brought about by the State-sponsored Chinese. A new form of colonialism and invasion of Africa. What is the use of showing us what you discourage here? We are not fools.
– The Eagle’s Eye

GIPF Saga
* THE public workers were begging to be given a portion from their GIPF money to use it while they can think properly but the custodians refused! Now what? To scrap that missing money is a day dream. We want that money back! Do something Anti-Corruption Commission.
– P K Phillip, Walvis Bay

City Fathers Please...
* IT is really disappointing and mostly disadvantages all those unemployed Namibians and recent graduates who are being expected to apply (for jobs) via online websites. How on earth do you expect these people to find Internet access? Which in anyway involves costs. Please allow the option of applications being on hard copies too. Please human resource executives think about those who are poor in society. You are depriving and discouraging them from entering the job market.
– A concerned employee.

Politics
* FELLOW Namibians let’s not be fans of political parties. What do we gain from that? I’m of the opinion that we vote for who we perceive is the right candidate for the reasons we are voting; when they become incompetent we vote for another party (with ease).
– Kenneth Noongo, Windhoek

* ACCORDING to an article in The Namibian dated August 2 the governors in future will be appointed by the Head of State. Advice to the head of state: please appoint your governors according to their skills and education merits and not politically affiliation. Your Excellency this advice will equip your office to have the right person in the right position and also avoid deadwood in the highly esteemed office. We need governors who can make a significant contribution to wealth building in the economy.
– Mr Rocky, Omaheke region.

* ALLOW me to voice my concern. I think it’s not fair for the President to appoint the regional governor. Let the community choose their own leaders at regional level at least. What do you think Namibians?
– A Ashipala.

* IF Paulus Kapia can be re-appointed as an MP with a pending corruption case this time; then the same can be done to General Martin Shali.

Health Matters
* TO the Minister of Health. We the children in the Karas Region just want to know why should we, who are interested in nursing, have to wait for one year longer after finishing our Grade 12 while the Unam intake is with the August results. Because that’s the information that we receive from the Keetmanshoop Health Training Centre.

Education and Training
* WITH the help of holiday classes at Max Makushe. we will surprise you and shake other schools with the final results. Parents, teachers, director, inspector holiday classes are a tactical method to achieve good results at our school. Please accept our concern also.
– Munyemba Msku

* IUM what are you doing to us Government loan holder students? The Government pays our money in full but then we are being refunded in instalments. The Government must please investigate these issues. Some of the students have not even been paid up to now. We want our money at once.

* BURSARIES please for those who are doing part time eg Namcol etc. Loans or any others.

* MINISTER A Iyambo we want to know whether it’s an acceptable norm that single unmarried female primary school teachers in Oshakati circuit can cohabit with their boyfriends at teachers’ houses without shame, respect or fear? Imagine the house is part of the school premises. Teachers should lead by example! The school board should step in if the principal can’t address this evil practice!

* My BBS111S Assignment went missing at Coll; as result I failed to qualify for my exam. My poor parents will have to pay again. Polytech is quiet about it. No wonder!

In and From the Regions
* CAN there also be a column in your newspaper where we can ask questions and requests to different mayors of the towns, ( like the column of NBC and One Africa) especially for towns like Keetmanshoop that is so rich in resources but has no development taking place. I will wait for your reply or opinion regarding this. Thank you in advance.

* QUESTION for the Ministry of Local Government. As concerned members of the Otjimbingwe community we have a problem with the Build Together houses in Otjimbingwe. In 1994 we applied for the Build Together houses and it was approved for N$18 000 and the houses were built in 2009. Recently some of the building materials were stolen and now they have increased the price from N$18 000 to N$45 000. For a one bedroom house in Otjimbingwe that’s extremely unfair and uncalled for. Can the Ministry of Local Government and Housing please do something about it or give us answers.

* SERGEANT Handura from Otjiwarongo Police. Thank you for arresting five men and recovering all five goats which were stolen from the Okakarara area. We need more officers like you. Please do more patrols on farms. We need people like you at the stock theft units. God bless you and keep up the good work.
–  Happy farmer.

* SETTLEMENT office – Ariamsvlei. This office is making a lot of money but there has been no development at this border town since 1990. Councillor of the Karas Region must give an answer please!

* DRIVING licence scam unearthed at Rundu? There must be a very proper and deep rooted investigation into this issue; lives are being put at risk! Shame on the scamsters! It’s a very humble move from the chief of police to offer amnesty to those with this ill-gotten ‘licences’; it’s the right thing to do!
– Light Right

* WE the residents of Rehoboth are living in fear. Every month end people are being stabbed? Where is the City Police? As I see it, police in Rehoboth don’t do their work as they are supposed to because some also drink with us in shebeens. Police Minister (Nickey) Iyambo send more Police to Rehoboth to stop this. We are tired and afraid.

* OKAKARARA Police please warn the DJ pastor of the church next to the old aged home against the deafening noise he makes every Sunday from 05h00 with his public address system. Some of the aged are sick and need to rest. Does he have to wake the whole town just to prove he’s a man of God. We need our peace

* MINISTER of Safety please let the traffic police/NaTIS officers from Outjo come down to Khorixas as they go to Opuwo to test people for driving and learners’ licences. It costs us almost N$500 to travel for and pay for these services once we have to go there.

NBC
* NBC please differentiate between a news bulletin and a documentary. Wednesday evening’s TV news effectively turned out to be a SADC doccie.
– JK,  Swakopmund

* NBC please repeat ‘Good Morning Namibia’ of August 11, the interview about community counsellors who work at state hospitals and clinics.

* WHY is there no show about teens on NBC. We would like jobs like presenting and help our parents and have teenage talks on TV.

Please Help

* RALPH Hergott the chef of Nice restaurant, can you please repeat on TV or share the Topscore desert recipe in the media. I just missed it. Thank you.

* I WOULD like to hire a luxury car eg. Limousine/Rolls royce/ Chrysler/ Lexus or 2nd option: Latest fashionable car  eg C200 Compressor, Mercedes etc for my son’s matric farewell party on August 25 in Swakopmund. I have checked on the Internet; tried to call – but no help.

Labour Issues
* WORKERS are still getting N$2.80 for an hour. Who can help us? We are fully booked every day but bath in cold water and are still using firewood for cooking. There are many problems from the management of (lodge name supplied) in East Caprivi. Leaders come and see for yourselves.

* COLONIALISM is not over for those in the security industry. We do not know who we can report this to. Please help.
– Teardrop

* WHY are promotions restricted in the Special Reserve Force? We have been working for a long time in the Police but those who came in yesterday are being promoted.

General
* THE N$100 million that disappeared could have built 500 low-cost one-bedroom houses.  Distributed over 10 towns and you have 50 units per town. Yet our people live in shacks and no one does anything. This is the Land of the Brave where two million people with vast resources struggle to survive.

* WHY do we still name institutions after living individuals who are candidates of shameful and disgraceful acts. Let us not repeat what happened some years back which created discomfort in people who are living in streets named after some politicians.

* WHY waste tax money on digital TV when Namibia doesn’t even have money for good local TV content on the two channels or can’t even provide telecommunication to all regions.

ACC Alert
* WE are sick and tired of the lnstitute of Open Learning for still deducting our money even though we have already finished paying for our studies. ACC investigate this issue please.

Responses to recent SMSes
* ON the SMS by Kgalemang Morone claiming that (Paulus) Kapia was appointed to Cabinet by the President. This is not true because Kapia was voted in but not among the six who were nominated by the President to the National Assembly.

* PASSION is all it takes to do your job well, not a good command of English.

* Dear Gunta please note that defending this baby dumpster’s actions, that they have heavy burdens, will only make matters worse. There is no reason to kill no matter how heavy the burden is! Please! There are organisations out there who want to take these babies; make use of them.
– Proud single mother.
