SMSes for Friday 27 August 2010

* RESPECT must be earned; whether by male or female; by employer or employee; by politicians; by civil servants; by everyone – it can never be demanded!

Food for Thought
* DOES the Anti-Corruption Commission protect the innocents who are accused of corruption for malicious reasons only to be exonerated after a thorough investigation? Do they give names of accusers when the accused requests, especially when the accused is not found guilty? This is very important in order to initiate a civil claim.

* DAILY tourist attacks at the corner of Fidel Castro and Independence Avenue in front of Carl List Haus. City Police please do something. Deploy your people there over lunch. Tourism contributes to our GDP; we can’t afford investors being robbed helplessly that way.

Congratulations
* BEHIND every successful man; there is a woman. Behind every successful newspaper; there’s great journalism – The Namibian newspaper succeeded via a woman. Madam Gwen Lister and your crew please keep on telling it like it is; I want to hear it from real journalists. Happy birthday The Namibian newspaper!

* GWEN L I salute you.
– Tired of Corruption

* HAPPY Birthday The Namibian. What do you say – ‘Still telling it like it is’. Your 30th edition is our pride and happiness. Keep it up and report it the way you see the news. Thanks.
– Jonathan Aiaseb, Hochland Park

* BIRTHDAY greetings to The Namibian keep up the excellent work.

Bouquets and Brickbats
* MS Gwen you are my new hero. I hope our leaders learned something from your interview on ‘One on One’. I seriously think our country is off track and the truth must be said.

* ARRIVED at Home Affairs at 11h00 on August 18 for an ID application. By 12h00 it was all done with efficiency and kindness.  Excellent service.

* MINISTER of Home Affairs I would like to thank you for letting the newborns be registered on time in every hospital. It is up to date. I would like to ask why you ignore giving documents to those who are born already. I have tried to get the document since I was 16 but now I am 23 years. When will you give us the document? Please Mrs Rosalia Nghidinwa?

* BRAVO to the Outjo magistrate for treating thugs as they should be treated. We are sick and tired of crime! Good example.
– Dee, Walvis Bay

* I WANT to give thanks to the Base FM crew for their motivational information and educational programmes. I am very proud of you, may God bless you.
– Bertha Tlhomelang

* I FEEL that NBC is improving and bringing better broadcasting quality but I also agree with what many NBC viewers are saying, and that is NBC should make at least two channels; one is for political and business issues, while the other should be entertainment and other programmes that are fun. NBC should consider this because mixing everything brings much boredom to the people at specific times, particularly the younger ones.

* HOW are these civil organisations made up? And which people went to them to ask them for representation? Human rights organisations and so forth? They are so critical of the  Government which was democratically elected. But that can’t be said of some of these so-called civil organisations.

* ALTHOUGH really trivial compared to other social and economic problems we have in Namibia, the Tobacco Control Act is commendable. Now please be brave and get a similar partial ban on alcohol. The the sale, advertising and abuse/use is the real cause of most socio-economic problems to say the least. As a soft target the Tobacco Act proved a useful pass time; perhaps alcohol would be level two with more challenges.

* N$3 001 for one night in a double room at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre! I thought Swakopmund was in Namibia not Las Vegas. How can they justify that price? More than a room in a top hotel in London, Berlin or New York. Ridiculous.

* STOP blaming the woman for making eight children. She responded to the call of the former president who in early 90s called upon Namibians to make as many kids as possible. Congrats to the lady.

* CORRUPTION should not lead our society.
– Concerned citizen

Power to the People
* CHASING the dots: sorry to burst your bubble, Chris, but Hydrogen is not a solution. Converting electricity to H2 is very inefficient and the gas is difficult to store, especially on an industrial scale. And it is highly explosive if in contact with air. And who exactly could afford a fuel cell taxi? An oil sheikh maybe? As it is now, H2 and electricity are mostly produced via fossil fuels, so what is done at the moment is like running a petrol generator to charge your (electric) car! In the (very) long run mankind must master nuclear fusion; in the mean time we will have to use fission. But none of this will save us unless we can stop breeding like flies. The Chinese are sadly the only country to have seen the danger and act accordingly.
PS Chris can mail me at the sandcat

City Fathers Please ...

* TOURISTS robbed. My heart breaks at robbery attacks I have witnessed twice at the corner of Fidel Castro and Independence Avenue where tourists are robbed helplessly almost daily in broad daylight. I think our City Police and men in uniform MUST be deployed there daily vakwetu!. Tsotsis grab their belongings while they wait for a green light especially between 13h00 and 14h00. Please help urgently as in starting from tomorrow! Mr. Kanime of City Police act NOW!

* CITY Police how sure are you of your emergency number 4444 since there is no indication that a message is received nor visible reaction when a message is sent?

* MUNICIPALITY please rescue us in Shilunga Street, Cimbebasia. Buses are parking in front of our houses’ entrances preventing us from entering our own properties. Why? Please do something.

SADC
* ZIMBABWE cannot be expelled from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) because it is a failed state. They need help. Madagascar was suspended because it is a rogue state. They need discipline.

Be Warned
* HUMAN trafficking is becoming a disease in the region. People are misleading others for better wages, good working conditions and a good life. The public is being warned about this kind of scam. Who can give you everything on a silver plate? You must learn from others.

Business as Usual
* GOVERNMENT loyal to Chinese, not workers = Made in China Government. The only free Namibians are the Chinese ‘citizens’ who are exempted from paying tax (income tax, VAT, import or company tax) and sell the no-guarantee, imported materials as well as faking the local goods. Our fallen heroes must be turning in their graves.
– The Eagle’s Eye

* TO all my fellow Namibians let us unite and stand up against this Chinese invasion which is nothing less then modern colonialism. Let’s get rid of these useless politicians who are selling us out just to fill their own pockets mega times.

* WITH all respect Mr Muheua, actions speak louder than words. How much time do you need to act? The abuse of our people has been going on since Chinese shops and construction companies came to Namibia.

In and From the Regions
* TO all the CEOs/ PROs of the municipalities, village councils etc. Why don’t you reply/comment on SMSes on your town/village/Windhoek city? Are you all afraid or don’t you care?

* WHY are your newspapers not at the strike of the Municipality of Gobabis?

* EENHANA Town Council/Municipality, improve your service please. We at OB Davids do not sleep peacefully because of that alarm. It is so noisy and it can cause hearing impairments.

* ONCE again my humble appeal to the Councillor of Etayi constituency to bring us electricity at Omutundungu taking into consideration the school, health centre, church and pensioner’s pay point.

* FRANSFONTEIN settlement committee wake up from your pillows. It has been a decade. Now we want community meetings and feedback please.

* NAMIBIAN Agronomic Board why do agri-inspectors let certain consignments of fresh fruits and vegetables through the Noordoewer border without any import permits? Our Government is losing.

* PLEASE Mr Mayor of Grootfontein develop our town and wipe out corruption. Start giving people with an education work and remove ones who can’t do the job. Mr President please look into this matter.
–  Concerned citizen

* SOMEBODY tell me what is happening in Grootfontein? The town has seen no significant investment for years now. It’s going backwards while Tsumeb and now even Otavi are growing.

Elections
* IT appears there is a serious lack of trust in the Electoral Commission of Namibia and there are too few people registering.

Law and Order
* MINISTER who’s in charge of the Namibian Police? When Namibian Police officers see taxi drivers stopping anywhere illegal, may they act against the driver or must they just ignore?

Health Matters
* IF there is a person with the title health inspector, can you please pay Khomas rural schools a visit.

* We need more security at the lift side of the Katutura State Hospital. As my friend and I were coming out of the lift her phone was grabbed by strangers.

Education and Training
* ALL  public school must be provided with school buses.
– Nauta Paulina, Outapi

* PLEASE Mr Abraham Iyambo some schools are still withholding children’s reports. Concordia refused to give our children reports if they haven’t finished paying school fees. Investigate. If you are poor, no education for your children.

* TO parents of the Holy Cross Convent School. When I drive past your school in Mandume (Ndemufayo) Road, I wonder if you are not proud of your children’s school? Go to the sport courts and see with your own eyes! (For example the condition of the wall, nets, wooden bars!)

* MINISTER of Education please note that we students at A Shipena SS in Windhoek were not given August reports due to outstanding school fees.
– A Shipena student, Windhoek

* PLEASE Minister Abraham (Iyambo) come to Unam. Again they don’t want to refund us saying that they will send back the money to NSFAF. Help us after all we will pay the loan all alone.

* MINISTER Abraham Iyambo open your eyes and watch over us Unam students. We are still denied our refunds. Why us Unam students?

* WHEN will the Government of Namibia finish appointing teachers in temporary posts? We are tired of moving here and there for temp posts. And it is expensive to transport our luggage each time and no budget!
– Martha.

ACC Alert
* MR Paulus Noa concerning the situation at the Windhoek Central nurses home. Management gives people a job and a room and receives the rent money for this dirty place that is mostly without hot water and electricity. This has been going on for many years. Do something about it please.

And Justice for All
* THE Government issued a constitution to protect her citizens. Thus if she can’t do it, then anyone may sue the Government! Just like you can sue the Municipality for unsafe pavements etc.

* WHAT is this “automatic marriage out of community of property” on the other side of the red line (North) after 20 years in independent Namibia? Where is equality before the law in this regard?

Labour Issues
* A CALL to all employees in Namibia. Let’s take our political interests out of our work. The time is now to realise that we cannot achieve our goals if we continue to affiliate to political parties where union leaders promote their interests and of their parties. I do not mean that we should cease to be members of political parties, but we should unite against betrayers of employees. Look at GIPF saga, security employees and many other issues affecting employees in Namibia.

* SLAVERY and worker oppression is alive right at Parliament restaurant. Or do we have to endure the untold because we need jobs?

* GOVERNMENT must give nurses a salary according to their years of experience. Our mothers and sisters are working for up to 30 years for a basic salary of  N$7 000. Stop importing nurses from other poor countries. Train our own women because if more women in our country are working more kids will have a hot meal daily. Stop looking for 25 points to train us. We do not need high marks to be a good nurse. The health system is pathetic that is why nurses look for better opportunities.

Lost and Found
* NELSON Nghidipohamba Hangula lost his ID! If found please contact 081-622-2876 or 081-127-0620.

Service Please
* TO all Namibian shops selling toys, we need black dolls in your shops not only white dolls. Rainbow nation remember.
– Rasta

* I WOULD like One Africa TV or the new E to start playing channel O again. Please for the youth. Just bench BBC World. Please I’ll be watching.

* BANK Windhoek we need you in the new complex in Omuthiya, Ondangwa is too far.

Responses to recent SMSes
* FEEDBACK from Okaku Councillor: They made efforts to bring potable water to the people. It is however a responsibility of every water user to pay for the services. Please pay for water usage to keep your water tap running.
– Henock ya Kasita, Councillor Okaku Constituency .

* WE keep complaining about baby dumping. If abortion was legal that wouldn’t happen.
– Nehale, Lüderitz.

* EVEN if you are exhausted you won’t be able to sleep with loud music nearby. You, fan of loud music, do you respect yourself? Do you respect your parents/laws?

* FIRSTLY, let me take this opportunity to thank the person who wants clarity on regional commanders staying in government houses while receiving allowances. Yes some of the regional commanders are accommodated in official accommodation after a transfer to a region other than where he/she bought a house. However they still pay the economic rate. On the usage of government vehicles, as members of the Defence Forces they will have a special exemption granted by the Public Service. In addition an authorisation from the accounting officer is issued to whoever has to utilise an official vehicle for office work.

* SPOT on! I tend to agree with the opinion piece on the insincere manner of auctioning erven. Let’s wake up and open the can of worms between the local authorities and property agents. No wonder that children of independent age still remain under their parents’ roof as they could not acquire their own accommodation due to the shady and shameless deals.

* THE people who don’t want to pay school fees for their children are highly paid education officers, directors and rich people. How can a school conduct exams, tests, etc. without photocopy paper. The Ministry does not provide it. Namibia is not a socialist country.
– A single parent

* IN response to an SMS about Katutura nurses’ home overcrowding. Dear resident just move out if you feel your health is at risk! It’s not about money but about helping needy students! We all went through the same conditions when we were in our 1st and 2nd years but we were fine. Remember cleanliness comes from within!! Elsewhere students are sharing rented rooms. If you need luxury then vacate my dear because you are not in need. Some of you students don’t even pay what you owe the ministry.
