* YES indeed, alcohol has engulfed our nation, I agree with your article in Friday’s newspaper. Even funerals have become drinking platforms. This nation needs deliverance.
– Economic soldier
Food For Thought
* SOME people rightly question the painful contradiction of an Africa that is rich in raw materials yet being home to many poor people. An affluent few in our respective countries often become greedy and protective of their wealthy class. Many rich people are generous too. The question then is who shall advance and protect the welfare of the poor in Africa? I think it takes all of us (individuals, governments and business community). But do we have a uniform platform whereon to display our generosity and kindness to Africa’s poor especially in rural areas. If not, why not?
– Elijah Ngurare, Katjinakatji
Bouquets And Brickbats
* THE liberation icon, Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, spoke during Heroes’ Day on August 26. I could not see his speech on TV as it was done at 22h00. Can it be replayed, NBC?
* NBC what’s the need of reading news each and every hour, when it is exactly the same sometimes?
* THANK you The Namibian team for keeping the nation informed about H1N1 every day. Do not stop please.
– Shiko
* MAYBE it would’ve been nicer if The Namibian had sent photographers to the ‘Hitman’ wedding instead of being “politically correct” at the Ngurare wedding. The ‘Hitman’ makes the country proud and respected abroad without cheap politics; what has Ngurare done for the country?
– It had nothing to do with being politically correct. The reporter who took the photos was invited to the Ngurare wedding. Plus, we had a photo of the ‘Hitman’s’ wedding on our main sports page yesterday – by a reporter who was invited to that wedding. – News Editor
* THANK you [News] Editor for correcting the reader on the puppet issue.
– ADL, Mariental
* I VISITED Ai-Ais last week. It looks very nice, the parts that have been renovated. The overspending! That is too much. Lunch and accommodation too expensive.
Stepping Aside
* HON Dr Tjiriange! Although you want to dedicate yourself to full-time farming, we appreciate your immense leadership in the arsenal of our Mighty Swapo and more meaningful is the total independence of Namibia, where black and white feel free that we are a nation. May God give you strength, joy and happiness. I salute you Comrade!
– Comrade Macacu
Minister Ngarikutuke Tjiriange
* IT’S indeed an impressive decision (Veterans’ Affairs Minister Ngarikutuke) Tjiriange, we hope and believe that you will encourage your fellow MPs to do the same.
– E Swartbooi, Walvis Bay
* MINISTER Tjiriange, you have done an honourable thing by retiring. I must say that I am proud of you. It is definitely a good example for the others to follow. All the best in your future endeavours.
Politics
* IT’S definitely time for a new leadership in Namibia. The old stalwarts of Swapo need to move on and out. But the opposition parties don’t impress me either – I don’t know what they stand for. Who to vote for? What to do? Eish!
* ELECTIONS come once after a few years and we neglected citizens go through those painful years before this chance when voting right is the only way we can change Namibia. Fellows, boys and girls of this soil, remember how many times you tried to make your voice heard and no change, no reply? Always the same ignorant politicians? Let’s vote for a change at least to give it a go and see what happens.
– Tate 19 years tired
* THE Government is no longer governing this country. Leaders are rather boasting and becoming untouchables. We need strong opposition. Vote for power sharing.
* ONE reads the blogs on the Swapo website and sees how intolerant and what hatred the members bear against people of different thinking and views. Is that what our mighty party stands for? Can somebody filter these views before we lose membership?
Running the Show
* THE Ministry of Justice’s salary department is a total nightmare. We are fed up being committed to our jobs yet we receive our salaries a week or two late. Where exactly is the problem? You have the whole month to work everything out. If the staff is incompetent why don’t they just pack their bags. This is affecting our performance at work. Do you people know the embarrassment we go through when our landlords come day and night asking for their rent money. You people have no idea how it feels just after month end to wake up with no single cent for a taxi to take you to work, yet the public is waiting for me to deliver. We are fed up please save us the torture and embarrassment. Whoever is heading the salary department needs to wake his/her staff up. We have endured enough stress and pain. They are making it a ministry of injustice for us!
Law And Order
* THERE is a wave of crime sweeping across Windhoek, especially around the areas of Okuryangava, we need more City Police to patrol those areas!
* PLEASE publish daily crime stats. Windhoek is becoming dangerous.
* I WANT to warn the public at large especially our dearly beloved tourists. Credit card fraud is real and happening especially here at the coast and lodges at large. Criminals are recruiting people to clone cards and they are making millions out of it. Be warned if you are paying with your credit card and shops must ask for ID’s for people who are paying with credit cards.
– Die Skim, Walvis Bay
Help the people please
* I HAVE a relative who is waiting for a trial date at the holding cells at Usakos. I could not believe how impolite the Police officers were. Please Usakos Police officers you work with lots of inmates so change your way of acting and help the people. If you are like that how will the community communicate with you?
General
* I’M not surprised by the recent calls by the private sector for the GRN to sign the EPAs. For 20 years you have been protected and enabled. What about us the poor? Now we have the highest gap between rich and poor in the whole world. You must also suggest how poverty can be dealt with as the constitution defines our economy as mixed and not capitalist.
– Mi-geb
– Just on the rich-poor gap, according to the World Bank we are not the highest, but we do rank among the highest, which is bad enough: “While poverty has declined since independence, it remains high and with a Gini co-efficient of 0,6, inequality in Namibia is amongst the highest in the world.” – News Editor
* THE foreign countries are taking advantage of the poor policies of developing African countries like Namibia. I refer to what the Chinese are currently doing here. Seriously, a country like ours cannot compete with China in business. Let’s face the reality instead of letting our compatriots suffer.
–Seane E
* THE best thing to do is just to legalise abortion in Namibia, because it’s needed!
* MY favourite paper, what laws are there in place to protect people buying from Chinese shops. Today I bought something and returned it in less than 10 minutes but was chased like a dog. In my own country I felt like a stranger in my home while the so-called investors enjoyed disrespecting me. If anybody knows where I can report injustice like this please help me.
– IKI
* MYNSSC please tell the Namibian nation who discovered the Oranjemund shipwreck? Tate Niilo or Shatika?
Education
* I’M requesting Hon (Nangolo) Mbumba to convert Augustineum High School into a higher institution. The school is centrally located, has a historic building, good infrastructure and many more. Namibia lacks institutions of higher education. Please consider.
* SOME schools in Oshikoto like Uukule, Nehale and Ekulo are hidden and difficult to for visitors. Please can you put boards at the road to direct visitors.
Taxing Matters
* TO the fellow taxpayer complaining the new tax rate has not been implemented, please be patient as it has to be approved and gazetted first before implementation
Labour Issues
* THE economic crisis had resulted in losing about 5 000 at Namdeb but it is only talking about 2 000 people. MUN must tell the nation the truth.
In And From The Regions
* NAMIBIAN Police please introduce speed checkers throughout highways and impose heavy fines. The road between Otavi and Okahandja has become too dangerous to most of the users. People are speeding and overtaking soon after they passed through the point. I witnessed this on Sunday.
* COUNCILLOR of Okaku constituency, does a village without shebeens not deserve electricity? Please double check the two transformers within 100 metres, at the nearby school and the new one at your office. Please consider the whole nation.
* WHY don’t the councillors educate rural communities about corruption issues? I think people don’t know which issues must be reported and where to report.
* RALPH van Wyk I am also from the Capt Hermanus van Wyk family tree but we are not aware about this status of Captaincy for the Van Wyks. Please read your Vaderlikke Wette, they have survived Independence.
– Manfred
* PERSONNEL officers in the Ministry of Education, especially in Omusati, please you are taking too long to process our requests.
* ON behalf of the Lüderitz community at Area 7, we are sad and angry at NBC TV. There has been no clear picture on TV as from the day we came to that place in 2006. Please do something for us, we want to watch our TV because we pay for it
* PLEASE can the leaders of Outapi constituency put in their plan to an urgently help the population at Oukwandongo where there is a clinic needed. The most urgent needs are the road that could help them much during the rain fall season and electricity. Please help these people! Anyone can visit Oukwandongo Combined School during the rain season to see how these people are struggling.
* IF drinking alcohol in public at Walvis (Bay) and other towns is a transgression, why is cigarette smoking not treated the same. We non-smokers suffer a lot.
– Neto
* COMRADE Kashuupulwa, please do something about Iiwiyongo Combined School. We need electricity to improve our school.
– Katox
Health Matters
* SHOPPING trolley prams are a health hazard! Very soon people will fall sick from these trolleys. Parents why do you shove your kids into shopping baskets? Trolleys are for groceries not for carrying kids around. Supermarket management, please correct this unbecoming, unhealthy social decay.
* SINCE swine flu started in Namibia, the Ministry of Health has been reporting all cases. How many recovered so far? Feedback please, Honourable Minister.
Sporting
800m champ Caster Semanya
* CAN The Namibian and NBC keep us updated on (Caster) Semanya’s gender test results please?
– We will. – News Editor
* WE will never get over this and I don’t know why there are sport co-odinators. I love boxing but we in the Erongo Region, and I’m sure other regions too, don’t get a chance to participate on a higher level apart from those who are in Khomas Region or in someone’s academy. But hey it’s Namibia you have to pay to get somewhere and for your God-given talent.
Lost and Found
* CAN The Namibian make space for lost and found in your newspaper?
– We have it regularly. See below. – Newsdesk
* I ASK anyone who might have found my ID Ebba T Kwedhi, FNB card, Polytechnic student card, medical card, Poly books and my confidential report. Pleases contact me at 081-367-7585 or 081-315-4074.

Service Please
* CALL forwarding/divert and call waiting (call hold) is available to cellphone prepaid customers for free. Why can’t MTC follow suit and introduce a similar service for its Tango customers? Let’s us know if we should pay for such a service because we your Tango customers are prepared to pay if need be.
* NAMPOST Windhoek what is wrong with you? It is end of the month, there is a long queue while more than six counters are unattended!
* WHY is Natis using the same line for the learners’ licences and the renewers. This is a complete waste of customers’ valuable time.
* TO Novel Dealers, I don’t have a problem with accreditation of Automech in Oshakati by the Novel brand dealers like Ford, Mazda and Peugeot per se, but the question is, do they really have the required capacity to deliver according to the standards and to the customers’ satisfaction? Obviously, we need the service here in the North, but if Automech does not improve on their current capacity, then Novel must seriously consider putting up a workshop here as your brands’ population is ever growing. Don’t compromise on the quality of service to your customers. We deserve the best too.
– Your customer, PK, Oshakati.
