SMSes Of Thursday 22 October 2009

* WELL done Swakopmund! Charging for plastic bags is a great step to fight pollution in Namibia. Let other towns and institutions join in! Sell cool drinks in cans and use glass bottles for refundable deposits. You will see how this will change our beautiful landscape back to ‘clean’ again. Think of the few cents some could make. Namibia is unique. Let’s keep it that way! – Jorokee

Food For Thought
* UNDERPERFORMING CEOs of parastatals must be fired just like soccer coaches. Those that deliver must stay on and be paid accordingly, just like Sir Alex Ferguson [manager of Manchester United]. Finish and klaar.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* ACCORDING to New Era of October 20, Dr Ngurare of SPYL and Lissy de Vos of DTA have shown a high degree of political tolerance by shaking hands while in their party colours. You are a good example. That’s One Namibia, One Nation!

* A BIG thank to the Minister of Finance for income tax relief. I received more than three thousand reimbursement from my employer with this month’s salary.

* THANK you Mr Vitalis Ankama (PS of Education) for introducing the Hardship Incentives Fund for teachers working in remote areas. I don’t know what criteria were used to place schools in categories because Oshikunde is not included. I don’t know why because there’s not a secondary school from Grade 1 – 12 around. There has been no water, only a borehole from this year. We travel from Eenhana with water containers. Our kids have been cooking for themselves and sleeping in tents. Please Mr PS do something.

* TO the PMO of Usakos Hospital, thank you for the good service and the cleanliness of your hospital. Keep it up.

* I AM very delighted, since I started reading the SMSes of the day, that these are really coming from true Namibians who want changes in their country and that they are being heard. I thank you The Namibian and I’m very sorry for those who don’t support this.
– Vusi

* THANK you, The Namibian, for the MVA vs hospital articles. The issue is the same with Government employees: Going to a private hospital one must first pay before treatment!

* WHO is chopping down all the trees along the road leaving Windhoek for Rehoboth? It looks awful. Who is allowing this?

R.I.P.
* I WANT to pass on my condolences to the Rev Hendrik Witbooi’s family. Our first Deputy Prime Minister, Father, you were a true comrade! Therefore I say, rest in eternal peace.
– Cde Erastus Shuundeni, Walvis Bay

* CAPTAIN Witbooi you have completed the race and left us as an honoured servant. I can still recall 1987 when the apartheid troops prevented us from opening a private school in Berseba, you then took us in at AMEPS. Your bravery and legacy will not be forgotten in the foreseeable future. I salute you.
– Flice Stephanus, Walvis Bay.

* IN honour of the gallant freedom fighter on all fronts. You have stood the test of times. You have won the race and have kept the faith. I salute you Rev Witbooi, may your soul rest in peace.
– Rev SM April

* MY heartfelt condolences to the family and entire nation on death of Comrade Witbooi.
– Mr Cash

* TO the Witbooi family on the wings of death and sorrow. God send us new hope for tomorrow and his mercy and grace. He gives us strength to bravely face the lonely days that stretch ahead, we know our loved one is not dead but only sleeping. Miss him but let him go. Be strong.
– Jaar family, Keetmanshoop

* FOR the late Rev Dr Hendrik Witbooi I hereby wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the wife and entire family and of the /Khowen clan on behalf of our family and my mother. We salute you with Psalm 18:20. Dear uncle rest in eternal peace.
– Pastor AE Lebe

Politics
* I AGREE! Not one single Archbishop, Bishop, Reverend, Pastor, Elder, Priest, Deacon or Brother has spoken out about the hate speeches.

* THE Justice Minister’s baseless threats and hate speech towards the Editor and The Namibian shows us what kind of leaders we lack in that top office she is in.

* MS Iivula-Ithana, if you are running out of ideas because of election fever why can’t you just leave Ms Gwen Lister to tell it like it is. You were ululating in 1989 when she was telling it like it was, please leave her to do her job.
– Weunyemenamo

* I THINK I agree with Meme Ithana about racism at The Namibian. I am encouraging her to unmask other racist companies in Namibia. Viva meme Ithana.

* PENDUKENI Ithana. What a shame and embarrassment you are to the Namibian diplomats. Your type of politicking went down the drain 20 years ago. We now talk of Piet Gouws and Ileni Shikongo instead of black and whites. By the way I am a born-free.

* I THINK the strategy of Hon Ithana is simple. Draw attention away from bursaries issues, corruption, etc. The worst part is trying to compete with Gwen. Say thank God it’s not the late Smithie (Hannes Smith). I greatly thank Ms Lister for her diplomatic behaviour. Anyway no one cares or bothers what the Minister says.

Election Fever
* For free and fair elections and for the sake of justice, let the ECN supplement the days for scrutinising the voters roll. Mr Tonchi and Mr Ndjarakana should resign with immediate effect.

Banking Business
* COMMERCIAL banks should justify and explain to the public the negative impact of dropping rates other than using the word loss. What loss? Not making the same income anymore doesn’t always mean loss, it simply mean reduced income. And banks are so selfish that they don’t want this reduction, they would rather watch and enjoy consumers suffering. By the way, bank’s money is acquired through exploitation.
– Penda Shilongo

* INTERESTING To note that the MD of FNB talks so much about how much money FNB Namibia is losing because of BoN rate cuts, but does not mention a thing about how much was made when rates were higher, and how much is still being made at current interest rates or through the high bank service fees. Ignoring the true questions?

City Fathers,
Please ...

* THERE is lawlessness at the junction of Sam Nujoma Drive and Bach Street. Traffic officers idly watch drivers rape the law. When law and order fails and the public keeps quiet, we are failing our society and setting the wrong examples for generations to come.

* I AM disturbed by way the tourists to our country are being harassed by the street kids in town, especially after five. City of Windhoek, please assign officers to patrol town in the evening! Think of educating the public on the importance of tourists and the need for them to be protected!

Running The Show
* MINISTRY of Works and Transport or the City Police, we can’t sleep here at Neser House flats in Ausspannplatz. Our garages are now brothels and kids play with used condoms every day. What happened to your promises of electronic fencing? We are prepared to pay extra for the benefit of our kids and us please!
– Mutumba

In And From The Regions

Walking in the road is dangerous

* PEOPLE, especially school children between Ondangwa and Oshivelo, don’t really see the danger of walking on the road. Yes they do, any driver can testify to this. NBC Open File can also film this and tell us. You people must think. Cars cross the main road without considering other users on the B1. No wonder accidents happen every day and drivers are blamed. Where should we drive? That’s not what freedom means! Penda

* CAN somebody help me and remind the councillors that the offices they occupy are not Swapo offices. How can they announce political party meetings using these offices? Please, it’s an abuse of power.
– Andrew

* WHY can’t the Government not start giving us old age pensions from the age of 50. They are refusing us employment from the age of 40. I am asking those who want to become MPs and ministers to think about this.
– Concerned Citizen,Tses

Health Matters
* JUST this morning between 06h30 and 07h30, I saw four different male taxi drivers urinating next to busy roads. This a disgusting habit!

Education
* WHY is an unqualified community member teaching learners at Oluno PS? He has been doing this since February. As parents we are very concerned and would like an answer from school management.

* NAMIBIAN Education Ministry: Teachers say parents must teach their kids at home! But most parents never got an education during white rule e.g. maths and physical science, what can these parents teach their kids at home? Teachers get training in all teaching requirements from the Ministry of Education! Let teachers teach to avoid the death of education.
– Mos

* I GAVE birth this year in February and just wanted to know if I can go back to school next year. I am turning 20 and wanted to know if I will be allowed to do my Grade 11 because last year I was doing Grade 10!
