SMSes Of Thursday 15 October 2009

* THIS has become an all too familiar, inevitable route for our senior statesmen and women. The latest being the late Honourable H Witbooi. They brought us to the promised land. They have done their part. The onus is on us, the young, to pick up the fallen spear and continue the fight to ensure that we cultivate tolerance, mutual respect, social upliftment and be united by our diversity. By so doing we will be honouring their legacy and be rewarded with a prosperous nation. My heartfelt condolences to the family and the entire nation. RIP comrade. – Daniel T

* WELCOME back our Tsumeb Municipality delegation to the 300 African City Mayors Indaba Johannesburg, where we spent $60 000. A few months ago we spent $90 000 on our Municipality sports team in Mozambique. And Switzerland here we come on October 29 for another $90 000.

Food For Thought
* THE Mo Ibrahim & the Harvard indices put us in the top 10 in Africa, even outranking SA in the Harvard index. These are statistics from credible international and national institutions, not opinions. Yet they still say the Swapo Government has done nothing for this country. If one can find a more credible source than Harvard, then let that be used but for now let’s give credit where it’s due. Viva all Namibians, let’s keep striving for number one.

* BOTSWANA to build a dry dock at Walvis Bay. Why does Namibia not build it and lease it to them?

Bouquets And Brickbats
* MINISTRY of Finance Otjiwarongo, thank you for the professional service especially the recoveries and the enquiries desk. What a refreshing difference to see efficient civil servants. God bless you.
– A satisfied client.

* MR Nyundu Chief Clerk of Ondangwa Home Affairs, you are a true public servant who has the nation at heart. You sacrificed your time to help us and you rendered quality service. Hope that you can pass that on to your colleagues as we need many people of your calibre at that office. May God bless you abundantly.

* NBC, it was interesting to listen to Dr Hage Geingob on Straight Talk Africa, talking on the 7th Biennial US Africa Business Summit. The strange sound made it difficult to hear properly. Cde Hage we value your efforts on making Namibia known. Let us take hands and implement the good ideas, on integration and adding value to our products.
– Richard Madi, Omaheke

* I USED to buy The Namibian only on Fridays just because of the Weekender but that has changed now. I buy it every day to read the SMS page. That’s the best part of ‘telling it like it is’. Swapo you are missing out big time, that’s if you don’t read the SMS page.
– Tega Abner Sheya

* I WANT to congratulate International Commercial for N$1 million donation to the Unam Foundation. I am happy to be an employer of this great company.
– Happy Namibian Charlie

* THANKS Uncle Paul! I was under the impression that all these spelling and pronunciation errors are only troubling me! Namibians, you must learn to take pride in your work!

* MR Kazmaier, you are a father dear. Thank you for what you do for this county’s children. God bless you, always.

Talking Taxis
* TAXI commuters, please use the numbered taxis only! That way we will be sure of our safety and support legal owners! Thanks! I’ve been a taxi commuter since 1988 and it’s just great to see this progress with our taxis!

* I KNOW this SMS will not be popular but to be honest I benefited from pirate taxis as a student at Unam. The so-called legal taxis completely refused to take me to the Unam taxi rank from the single quarters for the standard fee and asked for a double fee which I didn’t have. I completed my studies thanks to the pirate taxis.

General
* SUPER Slim Products contains phenolphthalein. This product has been banned from use because it has a carcinogenic effect. But this is being sold at a Chinese clinic in Wernhil (Windhoek) for N$250 – N$300. Please have our health inspectors visit the clinic. A lot of ladies are buying these pills including myself. But I was very shocked when I got the information on the Internet. I had used the pills for five days but decided to stop because of the side effects (emotional instability, dehydration).
– Similar cautionary information is available on various websites. – Newsdesk

Politics
* POLITICALLY naive and unsophisticated we may be, but do we have better alternatives despite those departing from the Swapo Party after their personal interests were brushed aside? The rest are doing little to conquer the hearts of Namibians. If they fail to reach us in remote areas, when they still need our votes, they only leave us to conclude they won’t bother to see us once they are in the comfort of the throne.

* CHURCHES are dead quiet about the ungodly hate speeches made recently. Are our churches condoning such?

* TATE Jerry Ekandjo we attended the Swapo rally at Oshakati on Saturday where you called for us members and supporters to hoist flags at our homes. Do you know that I’ve lived in a shack since I came from Angola where I was in the war for independence for 15 years? Can the minister reward us with money so that we can also put up decent homes like yours.

* EVERYONE makes mistakes, all governments make many mistakes. Not admitting this is dishonest, not trying to repair the mistakes made is plain stupid. Do we need stupidity in our government?

ECN
* ELECTIONS are just behind the corner but people who are trained and paid by the ECN to educate the community on how to cast their votes in Hardap and Karas regions are doing nothing at all. Since this programme was implemented, there was no voters’ education in Mariental and surrounding areas.
– Concerned registered voter.

In And From The Regions
* WE the Keetmanshoop residents want to know why the water and electricity bills were increased by more than 50% three months ago while all the other municipalities and electricity companies only increased theirs by between 20% and 50%? At the end of September they increased the water bill again, blaming it on the plot taxes.

* WHAT we in Usakos don’t believe is that we have councillors here any longer. Can the CEO explain this to us? Or can the ACC investigate the story of the Usakos Municipality.

* YES. Why are Namibia’s beach areas closed at 24h00? Can’t they have guards there? Give jobs!

* THE councillor of Tsandi constituency and Okahao, villagers of Iikokola, Olyasiiti, Okalale and surrounding villages have no clean water. We have gone back to digging water holes. Now that it’s election time and campaigning, what development are you talking about? No water, schools have no electricity.

Education
* NAMIBIA please help me. I’ve been unable to get my results from Unam since April. I don’t owe them a cent but every time I ask about my results they always give me silly excuses.

* CAN the Ministry of Education please pay the loans to Unam because the due date is October 16. Otherwise we won’t write the exams!

* I AM a concerned student at Unam, I was granted a loan by the Ministry of Education but up to now they haven’t paid anything and this Friday is our due date paying for our outstanding accounts. We want them to pay as soon as possible because they are our only hope.

City Fathers Please ...
* NO wonder the City of Windhoek is broke. This month I again received a statement with a balance of N$0.03. The cost to mail this envelope alone was N$2.20.

London police on the beat

* THROUGHOUT the world ‘bobbies on the beat’ means patrol officers who get to know their neighbourhoods and so know when something is not normal. Here in Windhoek we pay for municipal police but we have only bosses in car. Even in SA they patrol on foot, so what is wrong with our guys? They need to be out there in the communities, not sitting on their butts in cars.

Labour Issues
* AGRIBANK, your recruitment process is poor. How can one post take one year to fill after advertising? Mr Ipumbu, do something.

* GIPF, don’t dictate to us how to receive our pension or is another lucrative tender awaiting a comrade?

Service Please
* NAMIBIA Airports Company, Hosea Kutako Airport, please put in air-conditioning in the ‘meeters and greeters” area and the check-in area as well.
– Concerned airport user

* EXORBITANT bank charges, N$4 for every page printed if you need a bank statement at FNB.

* A CONCERNED FNB customer. I withdrew money from the ATM today [Wednesday] but N$150 was deducted from my account as a card fee. For what, I do not understand. Can I hear from FNB management please.

* KATUTURA Shoprite use your service hours as indicated on your door, especially morning time during weekdays. Open and close at the normal time please!

* OUR GRN please talk to MTC, because we are getting tired of working in an area where we can’t communicate with our families.
– Concerned teacher at Omatako PS in Tsumkwe area
