SMSes Of Friday 23 October 2009

* IT is true, we the “Church” have failed Namibia its moral and social responsibilities. The governing party isn’t excluded. Namibians forgive us.

– Pastor Ben Araeb

Food For Thought

Should they be banned

* WHY is it that shops have to use plastic bags? I vote for the banning of all plastic bags in supermarkets. Rather use paper bags. For carry bags there should be a charge. Paper bags won’t cause pollution and they are degradable. If it works in other countries, why can’t it work here?

Bouquets And Brickbats
* KATUTURA Police Station, a big thumbs up for you for publishing a list of lost and found IDs.

* HEARTFELT thanks. I just want to thank Kamwi from the bottom of my heart. I lost my cellphone and he picked it up. When my husband dialled my number, he answered and said we can come pick up my phone. If there would be more people like you, this world would be a better place! Thanks again. Please contact me at this number. Marinda 081-423-9713.

* POULTRY production info: Thank you people’s newspaper The Namibian. Thank you fellow Namibians for sharing information, ideas, advice, e-mails, warnings, etc. I really do appreciate your co-operation in this regard. Thanks for all who responded so quickly and positively, some even using their own Internet access to provide free info. Even some who have done this training in RSA and locally showed their willingness to assist. Thank you so much. May God remember you for your open hearts to those in need.
– PS Juni

* WE salute you, Mr Abel, forest ranger at Agri Ministry at Eenhana. You try very hard to stop the large-scale illegal wood harvesting there. Minister Mutorwa, do more to support Abel!

* WE appreciate the fact that everyone talks about women and child abuse. We just need to open up the discussion on workplace abuse.

* LET me thank Mr Erik, Mrs Johanna Angwena, Mrs Vicky Shipoke and the staff of the school. You really showed me that you care for your nation.
– Bernardo, Mweshy HS

* I COULDN’T believe my eyes when I read that our Prime Minister (Nahas Angula) shot down the BIG idea. The results from the pilot study speak volumes about the kind of change and improvement in the quality of life of our citizens. It should not be seen as spoon-feeding but as empowering our people with the little we have.

Election Fever
* DEAR SPYL Secretary. Any “self-respecting Namibian CAN smile when a tender is given to a foreign company” with a proven track record ... saving you and other “Namibian taxpayers” N$980 059.60. Are you or the SPYL footing the bill? Bravo Mr Tonchi!

* CONGRATULATIONS to the opposition coalition for fighting the ECN on the matter of the printing of ballot papers.

* I THINK the NSHR should keep itself busy with human rights issues and not with who is not on the voters’ roll. The political parties can fight their own battles.

* ECN please tell us if one should only vote in they constituency where they have register. Some of us Polytech and Unam students will go back to our regions after exams but we have registered here in Windhoek? If so we are not going to be able to vote.

* I WANT to give my opinion about the ballot papers that were recently given to a South African company. Where did the motto of buying Namibian products go? Aren’t we supposed to give that tender to our company? I think I want my N$100 a month, because it shows my country has money to waste.

* ECN tender to a foreign company. So what about the Chinese, Koreans etc?

Politics
* THERE is more division between the ethnic groups than during the Apartheid years. National reconciliation is non-existent in Namibia. Ironically it is the politicians that violate our Constitution in this respect. We need real leaders with integrity. Where are they? Please come forward and save our beautiful country.

In And From The Regions
* IT is frustrating, a young poor street boy got shot and injured during a Police operation at Shoprite in Oshakati. These are kids who were never told how to behave in similar situations. And officials could clearly see that the kid had just got up from sleeping under the boxes for shelter and started running.

* WE want to hear from Oshiwambo Radio if it is an Oshiwambo or a Portuguese radio station because on Wednesday from 10h00 the DJ only spoke Portuguese which we don’t understand. Please meme Helena we need someone who can speak Oshiwambo because we want to learn.
– Namibian children

* ONDANGWA Town Council, we appreciate your service. But at the new NHE houses fences have been put up and now house owners do not know what do. These will bring sand which will block the water movement and this can result in flooding. So please come and put in bridges.

Our children need it

* EARLY education for our kids. Will the two kindergartens at Usakos please tell the community what your problem are because you are closed most of the time. Some of us are working and don’t know where to leave the kids. And if you can’t manage taking care and teaching our kids please give the building to those who can.
– Concerened parent

* THUMBS up to the Oshana Police for great achievements most of the time. Please Ministry of Safety and Security provide enough funds to them, I mean their salaries. God bless you. Hold high the banner of making our country a crime-free zone.

* WHERE are the investors in the accommodation sector or why are they not coming to build decent flats in Omuthiya? We have to put up with tiny rooms with no ceilings and therefore excruciating heat. When is the town going to work on its power that goes off every time it’s windy or raining? It has been a year now and I am surprised nothing has been done to rectify the power problem. I hope it doesn’t make future potential investors shy away from the town. The town council and everyone involved should please speed up the process so that land is availed to developers immediately. We cannot bear another rainy season in these same indecent conditions. I know everything takes time but it is high time we do away with bureaucracy in this country, we all know it just makes us look lazy and incompetent.

* I’M requesting Ongwediva Town Council and Oshakati Municipality to include in their plans and budgets, an expansion of the main road between Ongwediva and Oshakati at least to four lanes all along to avoid traffic jams on weekdays during rush hour to and from work, pay days and festive seasons when we have many visitors.
– Waapandula noyaka, Ondangwa

* PLEASE Village Council of Otavi there is a well (borehole) next to the railway where people pass by and part of is has been broken off. This is unsafe for children. Please if that well belongs to TransNamib, this message is also for you.
– Stayb

* DR (Richard) Kamwi, do you know that nurses at Swakopmund State Hospital are struggling to find accommodation while the nurses’ home is empty. And some rooms are occupied by people who are not working for the ministry.

* PLEASE Department of Works and Maintenance in the Ministry of Health and Social Services there no lights in some wards, some of the lights have been out of order for two to three years now. Who can solve this problem and when? Please Katutura Hospital’s wards are very dark.

Education
* PLEASE can The Namibian newspaper confirm the article it wrote this week: ‘Schools to close early for voting’. Recently we received a circular indicating that the schools will close on December 4. Now which circular is The Namibian talking about?
– The Ministry of Education has apologised for sending out the wrong circular to the newspapers. Schools will close on December 4. – Newsdesk

* MINISTRY of Education, please publish both the JSC & NSSC results in the newspapers. We want to rate our schools and learners according to performance.

We want to write exams

* MINISTRY of Education we want to write our exams. But we still owe N$10 000 to our institutions. Equal shares of the Government fruits please! How can you pay N$15 000 for students who just owe N$9 500 and the rest goes into their pockets, while others are not writing exams?

* THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs should also be questioned about the Chinese bursaries as these offers to study usually are channelled through that ministry. Bursary corruption to benefit the well connected is well known by all civil servants.
NBC
* OH NBC? I watched the news on Tuesday night (October 20). President Pohamba gave a speech in Oshikwanyama which I understood because the area is dominated by Kwanyama people. But my biggest problem is why NBC chooses to verbally translate languages instead of simply translating via written texts at the bottom of the screen. It’s really better for us to hear the speeches ourselves instead of not so accurate translators. In the end I couldn’t hear the President.

General
* BON stop keeping a mere close eye on the banks. Act!

* THOSE on high treason charges in the Caprivi treason trial are being denied old-age pension benefits. Is this legal?

* SUGAR Daddy or Mommy: The sugar to be received must be to guide, encourage, honour, promote respect and dignity. For heaven’s sake, these kids could as well be your own kids (remove sex from the equation than you can make a difference in their life). Please let us build the nation with morals and good values, so parents take and fulfil your rightful roles, May God help us.
– Concerned fellow Namibian, Peter

Labour Issues
* THE Prosecutor General should act swiftly to improve the prosecutors’ salaries and benefits. Promises in this regard were made but never materialised. The workload is unbearable and there is no overtime. Prosecutors are resigning en masse. Please act now to avoid crisis management.
– Concerned prosecutor.

* I WANT to find out how long it takes for salary adjustments and for someone to receive his/her back pay? We teachers at schools in Onyuulaye Circuit have not yet received anything but others from different circuits have got theirs.
– Concerned teacher

* HON Nangolo Mbumba when is the salary structure for school secretaries going to be reviewed?

Service Please

Where is the fish paste?

* WINDHOEK supermarkets where are you hiding Anchovette fish paste?

* PLEASE Sarasungu Lodge, improve your pizzas. They are not up to standard like others in the area.
– Angry customer!

* MTC, please we are tired of all these free calls! We are no longer able to make our call after 22h00! Last night (Tuesday) especially I had someone at the hospital in a critical condition but the network was just busy all the time! Please do something because we on contract are no longer enjoying your services!

* FNB stop sending poorly trained staff to Katutura! How could all three ladies including a supervisor not know about cellphone banking? This caused a student in SA to be stranded for up to three days due to an error caused at the Katutura branch!
– Eddy

Sporting

Our Brave Warriors

* I AM appalled by the mind-set of our football community. The harsh attacks on the Brave Warriors and their coach are shameful. The unfamiliar, yet very effective defensive play has proven itself again and again, but still the local headlines are critique-ridden. Would you rather see the team take a beating, as it has done several times before, due to negligence in our defence? A win is a win and that is all that counts in football. The Namibian team is technically inferior to most of our African opponents, so other measures have to be taken and that’s the bottom line. No points are awarded for how good a team looks on the field – it’s the results that count.

* NFA I want to know when the First Divisions will kick off? Must you always wait until people open their mouths? We are tired of waiting.
– Concerned player

* CORRY Ihuhua stop always writing long and nice stories about Black Africa. You only promote one team. Why? Other soccer teams need attention and to be promoted also.
– Concerned soccer fan
– If you follow your football closely in this newspaper, you must have noticed that since the start of the MTC Premiership we have given equal special emphasis to most teams. We carried previews and reviews on Blue Waters, Hotspurs, Tigers, African Stars, Orlando Pirates, Eleven Arrows, SKW, Black Africa and Ramblers. Civics, United Stars and Oshakati City have not been in the spotlight yet and it does not mean that they will be overlooked. They will all enjoy space in the paper. Besides, we try by all means to give coverage to all of them, but if teams are doing poorly, they unfortunately get less coverage than teams and players which are consistent in their play. But point taken. Thanks. – Sportsdesk
