Food For Thought
* IT is high time that our Government monitors Air Namibia on a daily basis. I want our airline to expand but not on unprofitable routes. We flew to Lusaka before but it was not viable.
* I AM a born-free. I want to ask and know, when I vote and my party wins, what platform is there for me to voice my views on the change that I want to see in my country. Because I wonder if politicians will keep their word for the benefit of the nation.
– Explode, Oshakati
Politics
* PRESIDENT [Hifikepunye] Pohamba where are you? Chinese bursaries, farmers attacked and brutally murdered, political instability and unrest, Namibians labelled lazy.
* [EDUCATION Minister Nangolo] Mbumba’s explanation on the Chinese scholarships has raised more questions than providing an explanation to Namibians! More disappointing is the silence of our President who promised to root out corruption when he took office. Namibians have the right to be told the difference between this case and the one that led to Shalli’s suspension? Please Mr President, the nation is waiting for an explanation as there are no small or big corrupt practices!
* RECENTLY I moved my 95-year-old grandmother from Outapi to Ondangwa. She’s the only granny I have and can’t afford to lose her because of some politically immature ‘members’. That town is a war zone with a time bomb counting down and Swapo leadership is failing to positively influence its followers.
– TKTK
* SWAPO leaders, please take control of your unruly members. Namibia is a country ruled according to the Constitution, not the vigilante way. What happened at Outapi on Sunday is an indication of a ruling party’s members trying to undermine the Constitution and causing anarchy. Please, Mr President, we’re looking at you for the safety of our Constitution.
* A BICYCLE for all Namibians sounds like another golden opportunity for the Chinese to get rid of some of those millions of bikes they used to use. Remember those films about Beijing not so long ago?
* TIME for change may mean many things like peace, better living, war, political instability, change for better or worse.
How to retrain teachers?
* DEAR politicians, stop making unrealistic and impractical promises. How are you going to retrain the teachers and how can you build 200 houses for Omuthiya? What is the cost of the building materials and labour? To the Swapo supporters at Outapi and elsewhere in the Land of the Brave, let the RDP and other parties have their rallies without any disturbances. No matter how annoying they might be, do not act like immature people, wait for the ballot. Namibians let’s remember our freedom did not come on a silver platter, therefore we must not ruin it for invalid motives.
– Peace-loving Namibian
* HOW can a Governor say the RDP is not welcome in Outapi? It would be like the UDF saying other parties are not welcome in Kunene. But they are not like that. Read the Code of Conduct again, sir.
* THANK you meme Ithana for presenting H(idipo) H(amutenya) with his opportunity to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, in an open court of law for the whole nation’s benefit.
– VFC
* OUR beloved ruling party did wrong by discriminating against people who belong to opposition political parties. As a result, some people, especially civil servants, are Swapo during the day and members of other parties at night, thus the two-thirds majority might be forgotten.
Election Fever
* ECN, there are a lot of people who want to vote but have lost their voter registration cards. Why can’t you give us just one day to give a chance to the unfortunate Namibians who have lost their cards?
* FOR the safety of our kids, let all schools close on November 26 and let them collect their reports on the last school day when election fever has gone down.
– Worried mom
Bouquets And Brickbats
* I SALUTE you Mr (Tom) Alweendo of BoN, for calling a spade by its name, rather than saying garden tool, you inspired me. Political propaganda chiefs not all eyes are blind, smell the coffee.
– Sebastian Maroela
* MR Tom Alweendo makes a very well researched point that our leaders cannot dream of. To achieve Vision 2030 we need to invest in quality education, review it and give the teaching profession the respect it deserves. Otherwise the new generation will suffer from this mess being caused by our fathers right now.
– HD!
* GAL Level and Lady May, you made us proud girls. Keep it up. To the others, you are all winners.
* CONGRATS to Gazza! He is proof once again that he is still the King. It’s a pity that the late Roger is not around to celebrate with you and the entire GMP crew as he believed that you would win. I know that they are both proud for you.
* WELL done ACC with the Henties Bay Town Council. Next on your list must be Karibib.
* THANK you Mr Nghaamwa for a very educative article in last Friday’s newspaper. I wish all Namibians had a mind like yours. Politics is really destructive.
– Soffy
* I’M so disappointed by the NBC TV news coverage and even the Radio service, 99,9% is just Swapo. Does it mean that the other political parties are not conducting rallies or is Mr Gowaseb (Acting DG) under strict orders from his masters? This is appalling!
– MEC
* THANKS to the Ministry of Education for the extra money given to us. We will be able to buy our materials such as laptops. The person who wrote an SMS saying that he has no use for the money is maybe one of those who are rich and still applying for loans. We really appreciate it. We salute you!
In And From The Regions
* WHO will take responsibility for the death of the lady who was killed by the iron sheet from the dilapidated building in Okahandja? The Town Council should pay. Residents of Okahandja this is the time for us to stand up together. This lady could have been your mother, wife or sister.
* UNAM Northern Campus. Will the person in charge of the library talk to the security guards about their behaviour towards us library users. We are not their kids. Even when we enter the campus they whistle at us. They are unprofessional.
– Unam student.
* POLITICS every day. I am tired of promises during elections. I reside in Ononge but I still walk 43 km by foot to hospital.
– Omufima
* I WANT to ask the Ministry of Safety and Security if Policeme are allowed to use money to pay schoolgirls, or to buy them beer, before they have sex with them here at (name supplied). They are also knocking at our houses looking for ladies. We are living in fear. One of them was already suspended.
* TRAFFIC officers in Tsumeb, why are you not making sure that all the taxis have got transportation permits? As taxi drivers with permits, it’s frustrating to see customers being dragged away by illegal taxi drivers. Please do your job effectively.
* IT has now been 19 years without electricity in Kehemu. Is it economically viable to put electricity in a cattle kraal? This can be observed in Kavango from Mile 10 – Mururani, Insu and other villages. Let us not blame the national government or the current party, but our own visionless local authorities of Rundu Rural West, East and Urban. Fellow Kehemu residents, let us elect our own poor people from Kehemu to serve us. For development to prosper, we need people with vision to lead us.
NBC
Netball please NBC
* OH come on NBC, it’s time for you to show us netball games too. We netball players also deserve benefits like the other sport codes such us soccer.
* ON Sunday November 8 2009, the Windhoek-West and Windhoek-East Swapo Districts held a joint rally right in the centre of the national capital. It was attended by thousands of Swapo members and supporters with the born-frees constituting the vast majority and was addressed by none other than the Commander-In-Chief of the Namibian Revolution, Cde Sam Nujoma. It was shocking to note that NBC TV chose not to make any reference to the presence and the inspiring speech of the Founding Father of the Namibian Nation on its 20h00 news of Monday, November 9 2009. Whatever the motive may be, let it be known by all and sundry, that humiliating Sam Nujoma, is not in the best interests of the cohesion of our nationhood. The NBC TV owes it to the stability and cohesion of this nation, to clarify the matter.
* THE NBC reporter who reported about the RDP rally at Outapi was very subjective. She should try to be neutral as a journalist and not let her political affiliation influence her reporting. The nation needs to know who is lying and who is telling the truth in order to make informed choices.
* PLEASE NBC why can’t you change your programmes? Show some movies instead of wasting time on kiddies’ programmes. Why can’t you take an example from One Africa Television who adds nice programmes? Bring back ‘The Bold and he Beautiful’ or something nice! Change please we want to watch better things like people who watch One Africa Television. The only nice programmes you have are ‘Generations’ and ‘Lorenzo’s Wife’.
* CAN NBC News please explain why you show visuals of the US–Mexican border, the Israeli–Palestinian border and the South Africa–Mozambique border when they report about the fall of the Berlin wall?
General
* TAX is too much. Please make it 15%, we are just working for tax. I’m a father of six and I want to give them a better living but I cannot. What about those with ten or more?
* TAXI parking at Windhoek Shoprite. Some taxi drivers still use their cars for robbery. They let you sit in the car and driver goes and looks for customers. And at that very moment robbers close in and rob you. People be warned now not to make that mistake, make use of moving taxis please.
* PAGE 7 (10/11) it is not “a loota”, but “a luta”. Thanks.
– It was a pun, enjoyed by those with a sense of humour. “Loot”, get it? – Newsdesk
* I WOULD invest in natural hair if I were a woman, not this fake expensive so-called Brazilian or Indian hair.
– Anti fake hair
Service Please
* WOERMANN Brock Otjomuise, what’s going on? Your store is always out of plastic bags and then you expect us to buy your brand of carry bags! No I can’t waste N$6 on a carry bag just to carry a 750ml can of oil. I can use that amount for a loaf of bread.
– Ainah T, Otjomuise
* STANDARD Bank Namibia is [allegedly] rushing to auction houses in arrears despite payment arrangements made by some house owners. One wonders about the motive behind this?
* NEDBANK Keetmanshoop, your service is too slow. Does one have to take a day off to come to your bank?
* WHY do competitions in papers that charge N$5 per SMS always refer you to another number to SMS due to an error after your initial N$5, thus making you pay triple by the time you are done? Is that not indirect stealing?
Education
Nowhere to study
* PLEASE we need help at Unam urgently! The government must look into it. We are busy with exam and there is not enough place for us to study. Unam is locking up all the lecture halls. Now where do we go to study for exams? Why are we paying a lot of money at Unam? Please the government must get involved. Please it’s urgent, we need to study for exams.
* ASSIGNMENTS dropped in the assignment deposit box at COLL (Polytech) get lost with lecturers blaming students of not submitting assignments. Rector are you aware of this?
* EACH and every year the Ministry of Education complains about the Grade 12 failures. Could this be their fault on the one hand? Because last year some of the Grade 12 learners were given X symbols as if they hadn’t written the exam. My question is why can’t they just count the marks on the paper that a candidate wrote instead of giving him/her the x symbol. Please improvement is needed this year for better results.
– Vincent
* TEACHERS wake up please! How could a teacher tell learners that history is not an important subject? Does he realise that historians are unrivalled intellectuals?
– Prof
* MINISTRY of Safety and Security, why don’t you offer financial assistance for studies to NamPol members like other ministries do? We want to see bursaries, loans and scholarships for Nampol being advertised in our local media! Our kids, brothers and sisters want to further their studies but they can’t afford to due to their low salaries compared to their high-risk jobs! Hon Nickey Iyambo please do something! Some of your members are very young!
* NAMFI, Namsov, NamWater and NamPower consider our application forms please, we want to be admitted to your vocational training.
* MINISTER of Education please tell us about the Cuban scholarships which were advertised in April. The intake was meant to go in September. Hon Nangolo Mbumba were those scholarships cancelled or are they still in progress?
– Concerned applicant
