SMS Of The Day

n ALL lottery scratch card businesses need to be controlled and monitored by the Minister of Finance. There are just too many loopholes in the system and, especially the poor, who hope to win money, are the ones getting ripped off. How much money can be won if N$500 000 is generated from sales should be clear to Finance and the public. How can someone win N$250 000 from a scratch card lottery and is nowhere to be found for a press photo? Lotteries need supervision.

Food For Thought
n AFTER watching ‘Talk of the nation’ on NBC I pondered on the nation’s governing system. I was most impressed by Katuutire Kaura and a few of the other representatives, if not by their parties’ views. I reckon we should look into a council where individuals are voted in and not parties. It is clear to me that if a man of his clear talents cannot be used by the party that wins the elections, then the nation’s benefit is not a priority.

Bouquets
And Brickbats
n WELL done (Ministry of) Home Affairs. I applied for a new passport on October 26 at Swakopmund and got an SMS on November 18 from Home Affairs in Windhoek saying my passport was ready. On November 25, I got call to say I could collect my passport at Swakopmund’s Home Affairs. Thank you very much!

n I’D be guilty in my conscience if did not commend a born-free and student, Ndapwa Alweendo, for cutting the barriers of the “no-go area for men” politics. I wonder if you have got a bursary. You are honest, intellectual and brave to call a spade a spade. Congratulations, dear!

n IT’S alright for Ndapwa Alweendo to have a short memory span, but some of us don’t. We still remember the past vividly in our memories, and I feel it’s such a pity for the young lady to disregard the history of this country. That’s perhaps why she sees things that way.
– Kaapangelwa
– I appreciate your view. However, as I read the article, far from disregarding Namibia’s history, Ndapwa paid tribute to those who sacrificed for our Independence and what they achieved. – News Editor

n VIVA Ndapwa Alweendo. Youth are not robots. You have your own brain. Use it. Life is dynamic and not static. We are being left behind at a fast pace. Namibia is stuck in the past whilst other countries are looking at Namibia in the rear-view mirror – see Botswana go. Some of our older generation are merely concerned with their legacy and wrap themselves in the colours to remind themselves of the glory days. The youth need to be forward looking and visionary. Namibia needs to grow or it will wilt away. The stakes are high. Think before you cross.

n WHAT a brilliant born-free you are Ndapwa! I wish our leaders had your brains. I hope your parents won’t be victimised for raising you so well. Ndapwa for president!

Politics
n WOW, N$10 million for President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba’s new Merc? Spend, spend, spend. It is not their money, yet our Government spends it like there is no bottom to the pot! With 10 million the Government could have built more than 1 000 low-cost houses. Where are we heading?

Columnist Alfredo Hengari

n DEAR (columnist Alfredo) Hengari, what Dr (Elijah) Ngurare did was not attack the President or his judgement, he just expressed his views and suggestions just like you do it in your columns, or doesn’t he have the right to do so?
– Gehaz

n THANK you Mr Hengari for your well-written plea to our President, you took the words right of my mouth, I feel our President doesn’t publicly (if ever) tackle issues addressed to him. He’s good at ignoring issues addressed to him. He still hasn’t spoken out on the Chinese bursaries or the fact that our small nation is highly corrupt. Mr Hengari I hope Mr President reads your plea and acts on it.

n HENGARI is spot on. The ship called Namibia has no captain. We have a leadership crisis and vacuum. Nature abhors a vacuum. We need a brave and assertive new leader before the ship sinks.

n SOMETIMES I wonder where Namibia is heading, we haven’t even achieved free education. But our leaders make fun of what could make Namibia a better place for every one (not only them). They accept bribes, worship corruption, increase their allowances and now accept bursaries for their children while we the voters suffer with empty promises.

n DOUBLE-CAB bakkies for traditional leaders? While in some regions they do not even have ambulances, Police vehicles, etc. There goes my tax money!

n IT seems to me the state of internal affairs has fostered an anti-Swapo culture. Very few parties campaign without mentioning Swapo. And Swapo without mentioning the RDP. I sometimes forget such parties’ philosophies and see a cat fight. Huge cause for concern.

NBC

Give us good programmes

n THE organisers of the Sanlam NBC music awards must organise the show properly because it was not good in the past. Take a look at the RSA. They organised the Channel O Awards and that was very good. Also Kenya organised the MTV Mama Africa awards pretty well.

n THE reason I don’t complain about programmes on One Africa is because I don’t pay for it. With NBC I will never stop complaining because I pay for the service. Please show NPL games rather than the English Premier League to improve our soccer. Don’t misuse our money.
– Xwanda

City Fathers
Please ...
n CITY Police would you please drive through Sussex Street in Golgota and check out the noise from the shebeen at erf 7692 . They don’t consider the neighbours. Act please, we need to rest.

Please Help
n DEAR Editor, can you please assist me? I have been selected to perform duties as a polling officer during this coming election and I don’t have an account where the ECN can deposit my money. They said they can provide me a cheque but then I don’t have an ID. I don’t think I can change a cheque without an ID. Is there somewhere I can I change my cheque while I don’t have an ID? Please help me. I don’t have work and I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Please help me!
–You could ask them to give you a “cash cheque” that is not crossed and made out to a specific person. You can cash that over the counter at the same bank that issued the cheque. – Newsdesk

n EXCUSE me but I just want to know when the Woermann Brock (shop) at Goreangab Dam will start operating?

Service Please

Fresh is best

n I BOUGHT a cheese pie burger at Pick ‘n Pay (Wernhil) for lunch on Wednesday. It cost N$16 and was dry and tasteless. Prices go up and quality goes down.
– Desertfish

n PICK ‘n Pay Oshakati, what happened to all the sunglasses that should have been inside the ‘ELLE’ magazine?

n THERE were rotten apples at Fysal, Ondangwa. Health inspector please check.

n WHAT happened to old Agribank staff? The new ones can’t seem to assist you.

n CAN MTC please do something about their network. We get cut off all the time at night. Please.

n PLEASE G4S Security guards with your fast Golf cars, leave the ladies on the streets alone and concentrate on keeping our houses and streets safe.
– BM

n OMARURU has three banks FNB, Bank Windhoek and Standard Bank. Among those only Standard Bank closes during lunchtime. Managing Director of Standard Bank is that right? Or do you not want clients? Please change your method of competing with other banks.

n PLEASE One Africa Television, please put Channel O back, I find your channel boring without international music. We miss Channel 0, and Bassment Mix.

Sporting
n CAN the NFA tell the public how and where we can get World Cup tickets in Namibia?
– P Muundjua

n THANKS Oshakati City for a 6-point gain over 11 Arrows. I do want to congratulate OC for the points they picked up against Arrows! I do have a concern. What are the waiting for, for not signing the double top goal scorer of Oshana 2nd division and Poison Arrows Zuma No 7? Waiting to see him in the City shirt!
n SOCCER. Please Jakes do something about the U-17 Khomas League. Please inform us when the league is about to start because we want to register early in teams!
– Concerned player!

Education

Education for all

n SO many Namibians want to be American. Why? In our education system, those at school are learners while those at Unam, Colleges, Polytech and other (after Grade 12) institutions are students. Please do things correctly!

And Justice For All
n WHAT’S happening here? Why did the City Police chief pay N$3 000 bail for driving under the influence, while other Namibians must pay N$4 000 and we have to appear in court.
– Concerned Brave Warrior

Labour Issues
n I WANT to know exactly why I’ve been paying the Social Security Commission for two years now, but I haven’t received a card nor a social security number?

n IS the Ministry of Education aware that there are still physical science and maths teachers who graduated from 2007 onwards but who are still unemployed?

n NAMIBIAN people, those in the process of searching for employment, times are tough and the chance of being employed is so slim in the Land of the Brave, unless you are well connected to the interview panel members. Interview panel members (allegedly) decide on the candidate to fill the post before the actual interview. Heads of divisions or directorates or departments play a decisive and influential role in who is to be employed regardless of required qualifications or whatever. We all know that years of employment do not equate to years of experience. Therefore qualified candidates should be given a priority.

General
n PLEASE Directors of Education, of course not all, stop your officials eating during meetings. There are items to be consumed during meetings but not a yogurt.

n THE Government should consider turning Ramatex warehouses into technical colleges which will benefit our people and help realise Vision 2030, instead of only giving tenders to the Chinese who in the end take all our money back home and this after exploiting our workers.
– Brian Don Totong

We need more information

n PLEASE News Editor do you know where to find Scratch-A-Million management office? We need to know what happened to our shareholder’s certificates. Even a telephone number. Thank you.
– O UA
– Sorry, we don’t have the information. Can someone reading this help out? Thanks. – News Editor

n AIR Namibia, when are you going to pay dividends to Government?

n HAS the Ministry of Safety and Security enough Police officers with all the crime in our Land of the Brave!

In And From
The Regions
n KARASBURG Municipality, we want speed humps for the last time.
