SMSes for Wed 25 Mar 09

* FUNERAL or fashion parade? A funeral used to be a ceremony of respect. These days, however, the night vigils have turned in nightmares with funeral-goers consuming alcohol at an alarming rate, women pointing fingers and sniggering about this one’s or that one’s dress, hair, tears. People even complain about the food! Funerals have become fashion parades with a designer label as a ticket to attend. It seems to me as if most people attend funerals just to swagger in the latest fashion and to stuff their mouths. Instead of mourning the deceased and supporting the bereft family, they are interested only in satisfying their own needs. And when a poor person has died, they don’t attend the funeral because there’s nothing they can gain. Where are we heading? I think we need Jesus. – Kayavela H

* WHY are corridors in GRN buildings extra wide? So that those civil servants coming late to work and those leaving early don’t bump into each other.

Food For Thought

* NTB WAKE UP! Caught with your pants around your ankles again! Amazing that Namibia’s own tourism control organisations are unaware that the country received two ‘Seven Natural Wonders’ nominations! Could anybody enlighten Namibians as to who is in charge there? You need an alarm clock bru?

* I STILL need to see or come across the president, ministers and all party-politics-crazy politicians wearing national colours or suffocating themselves with coloured scarves. Are we Swapo, RDP, UDF, Nudo, CoD or DTA first, then Namibians? Let’s promote our national colours.

Taxing Times

* NAMIBIA, what a pugilistic nation. Allocating N$2,5 billion to the Defence Ministry compared to N$2,4 billion to the Health Ministry? When, where and against whom are we preparing to defend ourselves militarily? Someone needs to remind the Budget drafters that the war faced by Namibia in the form of HIV-AIDS epidemic, poverty, unemployment and illiteracy can unfortunately not be fought with the AK47s and Casspirs, but with wise investment in education, health, housing and adequate job creation. So, next time please put the Namibian national interest at heart when taking serious decisions in the form of budget allocation. We should use the right tools to fight the war at hand, otherwise we will be fighting a losing battle. Happy birthday Namibia.

* NICE Budget for 2009-10 but a Defence budget that exceeds the Health budget? Who are we defending against? Health services should receive at least the same amount as Education. Defence should not be a priority now since we are not at war with anyone and it seems that no one will be declaring war on us soon ... priorities seems to be mixed up a little here.

* HOW could billions of dollars have been budgeted for Defence? Are we at war? No sign of a soldier or Policeman to protect civilians and tourists on our criminalised streets. Their offices are equipped with televisions, leather couches and DStv and a monthly salary. Hundreds of Namibians are still jobless.

* CAN the President’s Office please clarify: what is former President Sam Nujoma’s job? Why does he need an office, what does he do now after retirement?

* MADAM Kuugongelwa-Amadhila next time in your Budget do not forget your home country Uukwaluudhi. Please build us banks. We are tired of travelling long distances to get to where the services are.

Politics

* RECENTLY a letter was read in all Elcin churches I suppose. The letter prohibits political speeches or songs in the church. The church caters for all Christians from different backgrounds and political parties. The Swapo campaign by Dr H Geingob in the Rundu church was uncalled for.

* I FOLLOW the screening of the National Assembly very closely, but what I have realised is that most of these respected parliamentarians focus on protecting their political status quo and defending their party images rather than concentrating on issues that are of a nation-building nature. Of all these respected parliamentarians in that august House, I have singled out Mr McHenry Venaani as one of those who introduce and debate on issues beyond politics of the belly. I thought he was only the youngest person in that august House but little did I know that behind that youthfulness lies a great man with a clear vision, a man with high degree of economical, political, social and intellectual sagacity. If we want to economically develop Namibia, then we need individuals, politicians and policy makers of his personality. We should no longer be bamboozled by politicians who use political independence as a yardstick of success, but we should gravitate our efforts, energy and resources toward economical emancipation, which is the second and imperative stage of real independence. – Mr T

* POLITICIANS should make their time for politics. We are tired of our children being left with no teachers while the teachers are attending to their political parties. I am relating to what is happening at Ompandakani Combined in Oshana.

* MS (Pendukeni) Ithana [Swapo Secretary General], it’s easy to call on “born-frees” because you need votes for your party. Me and 1 000+ other “born-frees” are roaming the streets. There is no change in sight. – Mitago

Children Of The Struggle

* COMRADE (Elijah) Ngurare please take your struggle kids elsewhere, they are not only a problem to Mix residents but also to plot owners on surrounding farms.

* SPYL leaders think that they are leaders of all the youth in this country. First solve the problem of ‘struggle kids’, then we will trust you that you have the will and capacity to solve Namibia’s youth problems. The majority of SPYL leaders are over 35 years old and should leave the youth of Namibia in peace. – Tashiya

* MINISTRY of Youth, when are you finalising and working out the projects for the children of war veterans? Please tell us because you are quiet.

General

* THE message of the Catholic father Pope Benedict against use of condoms is not proper and unfair because condoms are reducing the spread of HIV-AIDS killing millions of people. – Baloyi

* NOT all taxis are culprits causing accidents and congestion in town. It is mostly the commuters who are the ones stopping taxis at the most impossible and dangerous places.

* WE in Katutura don’t know where to report crime. Is it the Nampol or City Police, because if you complain about shebeens not closing on time (24h00) or crimes in the street they don’t come. They do not patrol the streets in the weekend! Please help us.

* PLEASE, owners of empty plots in Kleine Kuppe, estate agents and City of Windhoek cut the grass on your empty plots. It’s the perfect hideout for thieves. Please!

* WE NDF members don’t demonstrate or forward our complaints to anyone (no trade union) because it is regarded as indiscipline. We have N$110 deducted forcefully each month from the date of induction. The benefit is only if you die. And your beneficiary(ies) will get a fixed amount of N$30 000 regardless of how long\short you served. No maturity payout\lapse. No payout if you retire, are pensioned, resign, are transferred or discharged. The questions are: where is the money which I contributed monthly going? Apart from deduction on payslip, there is no policy book\contract which states the agreement between me and our Ministry. And how am I assured that my families will be paid when I will die when I get nothing while I am alive. Transparent answers are needed from NDF chief of finances. – Doubtful members of NDF.

* THE City Police chief, are you guys turning a blind eye to one group of people braaing meat at Eros Shopping Centre every Friday and Saturday in the parking lot, while others are chased away for selling okapana and oshikundu in the street. What is the difference between the two? - Concerned

In And From the Regions

* Wildlife a problem? Since you invaded their space and territory, elephants should petition GRN to reduce the number of people instead

* THE Outapi Town Council has buried its head (politically) under the sand for having cut off its residents (those in arrears) during the Independence weekend. Couldn’t they have waited? – Lucas, Outapi

* DISAPPOINTING state of affairs at the Otavi Village Council. How can a delegation travel over 960 km to Koës claiming the whole weekend and travel back immediately after the official opening before even the programme started.

* WHY does the Erongo Region’s soccer not include Omaruru, Okombahe, Omatjete etc please.

Bouquets And Brickbats

* WHY did some Cabinet Ministers wear Swapo colours at Independence events? Was it a Swapo day or a public holiday for the whole nation? Not every citizen is pro-Swapo! (Justice) Minister (Pendukeni) Ithana wore a lovely dress in neutral colours, very good!

* IS MTC the only rich company in Namibia or why are some other companies so reluctant to plough back into the community? Companies like Toyota for instance, on average most cars in Namibia are Toyotas and yet they are very reluctant when it comes to sponsoring events in Namibia. Thank you MTC and keep up the good work. As a customer I am proud of what you are doing as a company.

Service Please

* NAMIBIA Wildlife Resorts. Your prices are high but your service is not. No filter coffee in Namutoni and the restrooms at Halali a pigsty. When will your service standards be upgraded to match your prices?

* MTC, what’s the use of free SMSes they are piling up unused. Can you convert it into credit please? Or else get rid of it. Oh MTC make the connection!

* CELL One’s latest gimmick! The 50% off ALL cellphones does not mean ALL cellphones. Misleading advertising at its worst.

Labour Issues

* I’M not happy with Telecom Namibia. They have (allegedly) fired 50 employees on the spot with no reason and until now they are ignoring the people Why?

* WOERMANN Brock driver and its management. If staff are knocking off at night, please ensure that they are dropped in front of their respective houses. Your staff are been attacked by tsotsis.

* NAMPOST and big companies please get rid of the contract, agent strategy and employ permanent employees.

* WE are Ad Regiment members at the Luiperdsvallei army base. We are very angry at our payslips being issued by the battery clerks. What is the work of the paymaster in this unit? Please the CO of Ad Regiment must answer us in this matter. Payslips are very confidential documents needing to be handled with care. – A disappointed soldier

Health Matters

* WHY is the Ministry of Health in the Ohangwena Region spraying anti-malaria DDT in all homes in the villages and not in towns. Please spray in all houses in towns. We in Eenhana town are suffering from malaria, the second killer disease after HIV-AIDS. Prevention is better than cure.
