* POLITICAL parties, especially Swapo and the RDP, need to stop hate speech and do as the Americans were doing last year – informing the nation how they want to change the country for the better.
Food For Thought
* COMRADE M Shikongo is my friend. Must I now fear for my job if I am seen together with him in public? Martin Mwinga, please advise. It would also be helpful if you could generally please define how exactly you assess the degree of loyalty of specific comrades and where is the cut-off point. Do you have a point system and scorecards? Do we start from a positive account and are being downgraded as we are being spotted conversing with members of an opposition party or do we just collect negative points until we reach a certain number of them and get axed? Does conversing with members of all opposition parties carry the same value or is it possibly double damaging for my loyalty account if I am seen talking to an RDP member as compared to a CoD member – Nudo and DTA will probably have little impact, I assume. Please, Swapo leadership, just clarify these points so we know what to do and what not if we want to forward our career and aspire to become (and remain) a councillor, Minister or even CEO of a parastatal. Thank you! – Confused comrade
* I THINK some MPs don’t at all understand what others say in Parliament, therefore creating misinterpretation of some issues raised by other MPs. Especially some MPs from the ruling party do not understand English at all. That’s why they tend to discuss topics out of context. They know themselves and maybe should have interpreters in their mother tongue. When you listen to parliamentary sessions on NBC TV and one of them starts talking you just become offended.
* A PLANE that costs as much as State House? For 12 passengers? Get real!
* CAN we have a one-on-one debate between President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Mr Hidipo Hamutenya on the socio-economic problems we face and the way forward. It would help steer us undecided voters.
Politics
* POLITICS is the art of “controlling your environment”. That is one of the key things I learned in these years and I learned it the hard way. Our political parties are all fighting for their own benefit not for the nation’s in particularly. – Weah Nantinda
* PRESIDENT (Hifikepunye) Pohamba is a person of dignity, but calling opposition as family and tribal political parties is uncalled for. All parties are registered and licensed according to the Namibian laws. Dear Sir, correct your Rundu rally speech. Thank you.
* THE President should respect our rights to belong to parties of our choice. We are not misled, we are adults capable of running our lives. We don’t need to be guided.
* PRESIDENT Barack Obama has proven to us that there can be a revolutionary democratic change, if we all get involved! So people of Namibia as you can see, if we want true a revolutionary democratic change. Stand up and go vote! Make it your obligation! – Concerned Namibian
Running The Show
* WHAT is wrong with (Niilo) Taapopi’s qualification as the CEO for the City of Windhoek? Is his competence so invisible that the ruling party has to withdraw for Councillors that worked with him to replace them with others that have not, to improve his chances to be re-elected by Council?
* IF it so happens that Mathew (Shikongo) is reinstated in his job and others not, then he has sacrificed the others for his own belly. That is the politics of the belly, Comrade Tjiriange alluded to. – Lemmy Low
* MR Shikongo and the three city councillors, don’t be fooled. Wash your brains. Reinstatement is a temporary promise. You’ll be booted after the election. Be careful my dear citizens.
* SWAPO made no mistake to purchase the Falcon 7X. It will nullify the excitement over the 24% salary increment and will prompt me to vote for the opposition.
* OXEN bigger than elephants during the colonial era? Sounds to me that Mr P Iilonga isn’t too impressed with what his own Government is creating!
Seeing Double!
* Double-cabs for chiefs! N$210 000 times 45 equals what? How many schools could that money build?
* SO a worldwide recession and double-cabs for chiefs. More than half the population lives in shacks on the breadline. This could only happen in Africa. Happy 85th birthday (President) Bob (Mugabe). If you make 100, your influence could sink the whole continent!
* NOW the Government is buying new double-cabs for chiefs. Has Government thought of the fact that they already own a couple which are not used by anyone? – Ayedn
Water Woes
* MR [Augustinus] Katiti [former Walvis CEO] claimed a million as a payout all for nothing. How come Walvis has no backup water supply system? Now the residents of Walvis Bay must queue in the cold while you are enjoying your million.
Bouquets and Brickbats
* BRIAN Black I commend your sentiments on crime. The colonisers have left but we are not safe in our own country and in our own homes owing to our own people. – Tullicious
The Chattering Classes
* FREEDOM of expression is an uncompromising criteria and important ingredient to build a nation of leaders and a truly independent nation. A denial of this right is to create a society of stooges where evil succeeds because people of goodwill have been silenced. Thus the choice for our lawmakers and NBC is to embrace democracy and allow people to express themselves freely and without fear or to continue on the disastrous path of the previous colonial regime. Thus it is time for all of us to reconfirm our commitment to our Constitution and to set aside childish things because our Independence has brought equality, freedom and a fundamental right to be heard. By allowing this right, we can only reaffirm the greatness of our people. – Upeuatjikwe
* WHOSE [Andrew] Kanime [acting Director General] was sent by Swapo to take those poor decisions? Then they and Swapo should use NBC as theirs and not a national broadcaster.
* IN protest of the decision by the NBC to reduce the call-in programmes, I am urging all Namibians not to take part in these programmes until NBC reconsiders its undemocratic decision.
* NBC Chat Show banned? Why? Because there is a political clique that wants to control power without being questioned or criticised for its 18-years of mismanagement, underdevelopment and incompetence. Why punish an ordinary taxpayer who wants his/her fair share of the national cake? Can Mr Andrew Kanime and his disgruntled Swapo Party hardliners put back the Chat Show with immediate effect!
* I AM watching ‘Good Morning Namibia’. Looking at Mr Kanime talking about his understanding of democracy and how unscrupulous elements will not be allowed. Kanime should be aware that he is dealing with people, not wood. We want human rights education and that the rights of the Namibian people be respected.
I’m Sorry
* DISORDERLY behaviour at the dam. I would like to bring to your attention that I am not an employee of ... Safaris, and was only present as an invited guest. I was partly responsible for the offending behaviour, and for this I sincerely apologise. Neither ... Safaris, nor any of their employees, had any involvement in this matter. – The Dam Offender
General
* NAMIBIANS, why do we write Erf with our residential addresses? As far as I can remember this word came in the mid-1980s to distinguish municipal houses from those owned by individuals. Show me a street address in Ludwigsdorf with ‘Erf’ and I will shut my big mouth.
* IT is amazing to hear some citizens of the Land of the Brave trying to apportion blame to law enforcers even for an offence that requires citizens’ participation. A vivid example would be overloading whereby someone knowingly gets into a taxi while its occupants exceed the required number. Should the law enforcer come and do that for our people? Come on let us also be law enforcers on our own.
In And From the Regions
* EENHANA’S on-and-off electricity is not good for business. – Eddy.
* COMMISSIONER Abel of the Karas Region, the Keetmanshoop Police station was in a disgusting state from Friday afternoon till Saturday. A blood trail from the pavement up to the reception area. The floor and counter were covered with dry blood. Your staff on duty thought it was nothing when I commented on it. Please sir, that was a breeding place for germs. We the community come for service, not to be infected.
* WE want better shops like Shoprite and Pick ‘n Pay at Grootfontein. Other locations are very close to town but there are no streetlights. Please we need feedback, why there are no developments in Grootfontein.
* TO the Mayor and Councillors for Grootfontein, please we need developments in our town, we are tired of old buildings. What are you doing with the money given to the town? The time has come to name and shame those public figures who are involved in dishonest and corrupt acts. What a scandalous and an unconstitutional move against the rule of law by NBC?
* AIR Namibia please tell your new employee at Lüderitz to drive carefully.
Disconnections
* MTC, what you have done this weekend should not repeat itself. I never enjoy your free calls. You made my weekend impossible. It was useless for me. MTC should stop thinking of making the connection possible, because it turns out impossible. – Ndambe, Walvis Bay
* OH, MTC please. How could you do this to us? It would be better if you could’ve given N$50 free airtime to all your esteemed customers. – Abed, Windhoek
* MTC please don’t do that again! Please! It’s not funny!
