* AFTER 19 years of being a free nation, Namibia still has a high number of “professionals” who cannot differentiate between political opponents and enemies. One can find these people feeding the innocent illiterates with unfounded rumours regarding current political situation in the country. Most are known failures who cannot help their learners learn or initiate any tangible and viable projects from their “offices”. These praise singers need to be made aware of the fact that they better shape up or ship out. No ways to serve two masters at the same time. – OP Tulongeni
* SURELY, if we Namibians keep to our speed limits and don’t drive under the influence, costing innocent peoples lives the MVA can start helping our children by building schools. That money does not make up for the loved ones lost in accidents. Believe me, the Belgians never asked for that, just a good holiday in Namibia. – Nicoletha, Swakopmund
Food For Thought
* SWAPO Government officials are the first to attack and scream abuse about freedom of expression over the views expressed by the Namibian nation in The Namibian’s SMS section. As a young law-abiding citizen I worry whether our highest body of state and his government take any of the views and opinions of the very people who appointed him seriously. What kind of way are we paving for the future generation? What is being done to ensure that the policies in place are implemented? – K
* THE Namibian please send your SMS page to all the ministry buildings free of charge so that they can read, during working hours, what the people think of them. They are used to get everything free of charge.
* MAYBE it’s good that the funeral benefits have been increased ... the elderly will need it when they die of hunger!
Politics
* I WAS so ashamed and shocked to hear complaints about Dr (Hage) Geingob’s speech in Rundu. I didn’t think he did a wrong thing. People follow the history of Namibia, think about Oniipa, and that’s why Elcin is still talking about the liberation struggle. Of course when we are talking about liberation Swapo will be there,
* IF greeting Mr Jesaya Nyamu in a plane and hugging Mr Hidipo Hamutenya at the USA Embassy, by Dr Hage Geingob, are the examples of tolerance, then, calling Prof Joe Diescho “a political prostitute” after being criticised is an example of intolerance from the very same Dr. We therefore need leaders who are consistent in their talks and actions but not those who double-talk/act.
* WHEN will the party retire [Deputy Minister of Labour] Peter Iilonga so he can live on N$450 a month?
* GIVE Deputy Minister Iilonga N$450 and make him live on it, even outside Windhoek in a village! Let’s see how he likes that while he also cares for some grandchildren!
Old Soldiers
* A FELLOW reader wrote an SMS last Friday alleging that Commander Mbulunganga shown on NBC during Independence has been forgotten by the GRN. That is not true, he was given a house on top of an award and other veteran’s benefits. What else can GRN do, he is just sick and old but still loved.
* READING an SMS about ‘Old Soldiers’ reminds me of another old soldier known as Mbwiti ya Shawana, confined to a wheelchair, living with a sister at Ondangwa, near Omwandi gwaKamanya. Ondangwa Town Council allocated him a plot. Local Government is dragging its feet to build him a house. One wonders why. It is high time that the Local Government Ministry gave instructions to build the house. We should not discriminate and abandon our comrades. It is painful to be abandoned!
* MINISTRY of Veterans Affairs, we are too old for projects, just give the money due to us, we are capable of running our own projects. The lump sum you decided on is peanuts and insult to us.
Running The Show
* NOT only was I shocked to hear a MP call our hospitals slaughterhouses, I was disgusted to see her colleagues laughing and cheering. To me Hon KK meant our doctors and nurses are butchers and patients go to hospitals to be slaughtered. Such utterances are callous, insensitive, irresponsible, misleading and dangerous. How could the Speaker defend such lunacy? She owes the nation an apology.
* THE Namibian Government is not serious. There are those affected by the floods for whom they need assistance from others (UN), yet they are buying a Falcon.
* ACCORDING to an SMS in The Namibian, the Defence Ministry is eliminating unemployment by creating about 3 800 jobs. Congratulations! At N$2,4 billion. And in the absence of war, what do they do?
ACC Alert
* HOW on earth can Police cars be parked after hours countrywide while the ones for Koës Village council are doing 24/7 patrols? And cars are parked at the employees houses after hours and during weekends, they drive any time they deem fit. Is this the right way to manage state-owned cars? ACC please investigate and I’m sure you will get satisfying result for the nations. – Concerned taxpayer
Bouquets And Brickbats
* EXCELLENT point made by (Rector) Mutelo that NBC presenters must run programmes professionally, it’s not about abolishing the programme.
* WE, the parents of learners with special needs in Khomas Education Region, are happy with the information provided by Ms Sam on national radio, keep it up.
* THE company entrusted with repairing roads in Windhoek (potholes and the rest) is doing cheap work. I hope that it is not paid yet. The “fillings” are already out! Check and some it out, start in Sam Nujoma Drive between Old Breweries and main entrance to Ministry of Defence!
* ONE AFRICA TV, how can they always fail to get their supplies on time? This week without ‘The Two Sides of Ana’. They must order in time, please!
General
* HAVE you lost your Suzuki keys in Klein Windhoek? Call 081-281-2008
* BANK of Namibia why are we as Namibians not allowed to make use of internet banks like PAYPAL and MONEYBOOKERS, which are much safer than using credit cards.
* THE military infrastructure left by the colonial army was the best, apart from some temporary bases. The problem of us in the government is not maintaining the Government infrastructure until it falls apart. Therefore the SMS in Friday’s newspaper about colonial-era dilapidated compounds when defending the Defence budget is rather out of context.
Service Please
* MTC please do something for the students who applied for 3G at the beginning of February, because up to now you did not yet contact us. We need it so that we can do our research. Please do something before it too late for us please! – Concerned student
* IT’S unbelievable. At Standard Bank if your autobank card magnet is worn out you have to wait for seven working days to get the new one. Is this what we call service?
* I PASSED my licence at the beginning of October and have again been sent away to collect it maybe by the end of April. Service please Natis!
* INTERCAPE please improve on your customer care. On March 21 at Tsumeb your crew made some of the passengers load luggage while they were standing arms akimbo. Again at Katima Mulilo some passengers were made to pay for excess luggage when your waybill quotations are silent on this issue. Lastly why did you dump passengers at Livingstone bus terminus instead of leaving them at Victoria Falls as you have done previously? Some of your passengers suffered and were greatly inconvenienced by the conduct of your crew. Whatever became of the saying that a customer is King/Queen to any business enterprise.
In And From the Regions
* DO you know that in the 18 century Mululwani was part of Caprivi? I could not understand why it was cut out from Caprivi.
* THE story about Kalkrand Police hiding the speed camera from a driver, their rules on where the 60 km/h starts are highly questionable. It seems their objective is more on getting perverted and sick pleasure by spoiling the day for travellers. And it is not as if that village serves any purpose in life. Mr Hamufungu, please call the Kalkrand Police to order. – Ex innocent victim
* THE NIMT campus that opened in Keetmanshoop was supposed to be for youngsters in the South. But most students currently there are from the North.
* RUNDU Town Council how long will it take you to change Rundu town to a vibrant city? What are the problems with you? We are tired of these new developments in Rundu of a big plot with a small house. We don’t want these substandard buildings in Rundu. Get some advice on how to run such a parastatal.
Education
* ETSIP can you please help us library assistants in the Teachers’ Resource Centres to go for studies because the training you gave us was too short. This is a waste of time. To classify and catalogue books does not need short training. ETSIP please help us!
* THE economics lecturer at Unam please check whether the equipment is working before lectures resume, as it is unprofessional and costly to go to lecturers at night only to discover that equipment is not working and this happened three times!
* CAN someone at Otjikoto hostel please give us an answer why our children are not allowed to go out of the hostel even on Sunday. As a parent I am hurt to learn that my child is not going to church and doesn’t have access to a library and other sources of information. And they don’t have an outgoing day during they week!
