SMSes for Mon 16 Mar 09

* THEY blame the victims for their action. Whereby the victim starts feeling guilty and intimidated and this becomes an ongoing process until it’s too late to realise what happened. We should stand up to domestic violence because the first cut is the deepest. – Judd, Windhoek

Food For Thought

*  MY ideal Namibian politician should be an egalitarian or a philanthropist who goes into politics to help the poor, promote unity in diversity, trade, peace and justice, even without pay or at a lesser salary like (Mahatma) Gandhi or (Nelson) Mandela, but not enter politics to make money like most have done. If you want to depend financially join GRN employment or marry someone rich, if you want to be a freethinker join the free society and if you want lots of money become a businessman, not a party hack. Every politician should ask him or herself: “Am I a servant of the people or a gold digger?”

* PLEASE can the Namfisa Board tell the nation the truth about the suspension of the CEO? We are aware that he might have the key to the missing N$100 million of NDC and someone is trying to silence him.

Politics

* DEAR Swapo members versus Namibia as a nation, let us learn to respect the Head of State, let us not take advantage of his humbleness to undermine his powers and authority, to save your our own interests. No. Let us join with him to lift our own country rather than pointing fingers. There is no lesson in that. – CMM

* PRESIDENT Pohamba has to immediately fire those who have been trying to topple him. That is how politics works. – JD Hatutale

* IF the Ngurares, Kaarondas and the lot are the fibre considered good leader material then we indeed are a nation of fools. Talk about going from bad to worse! We need excellent and brilliant leaders, not mediocre praise singers.

* IF Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana loses her temper, will the heavens come down? – Wokomongwa

* HONOURABLE Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana failed the nation by not telling it what will happen should she lose her temper. – Omutwewomunhu

Some Answers Please

* WHAT happens to a man that walks the straight and narrow path to fight the widespread corruption in this country? He is removed as an obstacle. We think of you, Mr [Rainer] Ritter. Please do not give up on the noble cause, there are too few to take your place!

Running The Show

* THE practice of promoting party loyalists beyond their competence was a major reason for poor service delivery for the past four years. I am urging the party to stop giving jobs to comrades who are not qualified to do them. Please I am urging the government to review its disastrous deployment policy. Because we are excluding qualified people. If the comrade does not live up to expectations they should be fired. A greater sense of responsibility needs to permeate the ethos of government all the way through the accountability chains. – Vataleni

* A SENIOR prison official has been on suspension with full benefits for more than two years now. That is Namibia. Land of milk and honey.

* SMS sender take note: the councillor is serving the public on the ticket of the party or association. Yes, serving to toe the line meaning to serve and promote the interests of the appointing authority. If the interest of Swapo is to keep Taapopi in the job let it be. If you disagree quit. It is the practice everywhere even in America. Obama came in with new people to advance his party’s interests. Former President Bush invaded Iraq and killed Saddam Hussein under false pretences of looking for weapons of mass destruction which up to this stage have not been found. He used among many others ex-Secretary of State Colin Powell to advance his agenda even at the UN. When Powell discovered that he was used, he resigned. In a nutshell if you don’t want to be used, resign otherwise you may end up violating the standing procedures of the appointing authority which you committed to when you joined the party or association.

* HI I’m Vetaruhe Kandorozu, Regional Councillor of Okakarara Constituency in Otjozondjupa Region. I’m the only opposition member in our Council of Nudo party. By the way I have a big concern with the recent salary increment for both political officers and civil servants. But the Regional Councillors were excluded from this increment, I want to know why?

* THE media reported that thousands of kilograms of maize meal meant for emergency relief has gone bad in storage at Mariental while thousands of Namibians go hungry. This is one of the good examples of Government’s efforts being sabotaged against vulnerable people.

Bouquets And Brickbats

* IT’S nice to appreciate someone’s good work when he is still alive. A picture says it better. Mr Dudley at The Namibian, you are doing a great job. Your cartoons inspire a lot of us in schools and everywhere the paper is read.

* PEOPLE I would really like to give a big round of applause to our Fire Brigade, they are excellent! Very quick response. – Jen

* YOUR Ndeshi & Jakes has never been very bright but please keep your opinion about God for yourself. (March 9 edition).

* THE City Police toll-free number is a joke. On Saturday night we called the City Police toll-free number to report a street fight resulting from an unruly house party in Dorado Park. The officer on duty informed us that unless we supplied our names and full address, a team will not be sent out to investigate the matter. Upon a second try to report the now out of control fight, a certain Constable Ushona (if that is his real name) insisted that we are required to submit our names in order to curb abuse of the toll-free number. We are asked to work together with the Police to combat crime but when we do then we open ourselves up for victimisation. City Police, what is more important, my name or the crime I’m reporting? One thing is for sure, if you do not improve your attitude, you will not be getting any assistance from the public.

* THANKS to the Informanté newspaper for calling to task each MP who “dodged” last week’s NA session. Namibia, see the “cheap reasons” they gave. They’re just warming up chairs to fill their pockets while the nation is flooded and hungry.

* I PARTICIPATED in the 5km NMC Walk for Wheels on Saturday, March 14 2009, after seeing an advert in the print media. I was proud seeing Namibians united for a good cause. Could the organisers explain why they used the Afrikaans language? After the walk, I hanged on a bit, and in my rudimentary Afrikaans realised prizes were being announced. I saw no point continuing being there, so I left. English is the official language in Namibia. I would want to participate again next year, planning to mobilise more colleagues, family and friends who are non-Afrikaans speakers. Or are we expected to take an Afrikaans for Beginners course before? – Petrina Nandjila Owusu-Afriyie

General

* I AM not happy with the idea of shebeens all over the place, even in the North. We are turning our youths into alcoholics. There are other businesses Namibians can be involved in than selling alcohol and indirectly promoting prostitution.

* WE are the generation of Namibians born in Namibia, not from exile. Why should we vote if the Government of Swapo does not see us as equal as the ones from exile. Jobs should be provided equally to everyone. These people from exile came here and we all had the same education. It looks like they have more rights than us that were born in Namibia, while the Namibian Constitution states in article 10 sub-article 1 all persons shall be equal before the law. We that were born in Namibia cannot find jobs.

* CAN The Namibian guarantee that no one can trace the origin of an SMS? Will it remain secret? There are spies out there you know. – We have never and will never give up or make public the numbers of SMS senders. – Newsdesk

* OUR leaders. Why always give tenders to the people having two or three tenders when we the poor and disabled, who are suffering, want to eat these cakes too?

* COMPANIES selling solar panels must warn their clients about the alarming rate at which they are stolen. GRN must come up with an indaba and legislate, if possible, that everybody in possession of solar panels must carry proof at all times or risk losing them. At the moment only thieves and dealers benefit from the solar energy industry.

* CAN the NBC please repeat the Kamholo family story and tell us in advance of the date and time of the rebroadcast.

* PEOPLE from informal settlements keep complaining about rubbish, etc. Are there not many unemployed people living there who can spend their time cleaning up their own mess instead of sitting in shebeens? Why always hold government and municipalities responsible?

* ECN!: The NTEC is making sensible contributions. Why not engage this important civil society voice.

Service Please

* WOERMANN Brock and its outlets in Katutura are in a poor condition. The general condition and service is deteriorating. It’s time they seriously and urgently take cognisance of this!

* FNB bank at Swakopmund, did you not realise up to now that your clients have increased in numbers? The solution is to build another branch, because we are suffering in long queues on payday and weekends.

Disconnections

* STRAIT Talk: Six or seven SMSes gone because of instant broadband advert of MTC. – JEP

* IT seems that MTC network can’t accommodate the 1 million of its subscribers anymore because like today (March 10) between 20h00 and 22h00 I have been struggling to make a single call or SMS to no avail. Please update your network otherwise we will be forced to join another cellphone network provider which really we don’t want. – Mauha

In And From the Regions

* WORKERS’ wages? Government must start doing research in Kunene Region. Labourers in the Outjo area and Kamanjab are struggling. We need help please!

* MINISTER of Youth, when will you start renovating the abandoned Okahandja Hotel for a youth multi-purpose centre as you promised the nation early last year?

* I APPLAUD the Erongo Police Commissioner’s efforts to root out crime in the region. I’m however worried about the level of crime around the small town of Omaruru and Police efforts to deal with them. Murder, theft of solar equipment, etc. etc. Please also come and help us.

* NBC, please. We at Khorixas haven’t had the opportunity to listen to or watch the TV or the radio for the past two months. It’s like we are utterly isolated from Namibian and world affairs. This is becoming a serious issue with each passing day, and I think we here have all the capability of addressing Misa regarding the issue; and can do so without any hesitation! If the new so-called CEO is weak; then bring back the legendary Mr Bob Kandetu!

* PLEASE open the water taps at Onathinge South we are dying.

* WE were left to register as ex-combatants. When to register again? – Oshakati
