* I don’t want the people of Namibia to mix the traditional leadership with the political leadership. – Mr Uazunganisa
Food For Thought
* IN response to U2’s opinion on the dismissal of political appointees: such officials could also be members of opposition parties as is happening in mature democracies worldwide – as long as they are suitable for the jobs. – AM
* THE GRN must make the most of the water while we have still got it, for example constructing reservoirs for the water to be used in industrial projects and domestic use. With the effects of global warming clearly visible now, we might not have rainfall in the next five years. Let’s make the best out of this bad situation and the time is now.
Politics
* ARE we still going to build a N$21 million plus office block for the retired President (Sam Nujoma) still buy the N$650 million jet, increase the salaries of civil servants, increase the allowances for war veterans, bail out the ever loss-making “parasitals”, fight the devastating floods in the north and many other problems we are facing? If we can, then thank God and our ancestors. We are RIIIIIICH!!!
* DEAR President Pohamba, can you explain to me why you need an aircraft for N$600 million where you already have one that does the job? I am sorry, your Excellency, but did you not say at your inauguration that the upliftment of the poor masses was your priority? Have your government’s priorities changed? Please let us know for this year’s elections. N$600 million is spent on a plane so a handful of people can travel in luxury. That money should have been used to build a dam or improve infrastructure for future floods in Ovamboland to benefit hundred thousands of people. But why care about the all the people? It’s much nicer to travel in style, eat all you can and stuff your pockets and bank account and forget the starving people who lost everything! Forget the people who cannot even travel to the clinic and hospital and fly off to go and spend even more of the country’s money that could have been used to make life bearable for thousands!
* MR Pohamba, how could your Government register tribal and family political parties? Is it because your government is a tribal government?
* WITHDRAWN councillors were elected and put there by Swapo. If the party recalls them, it’s its prerogative. Why cry foul and look for a scapegoat? You were put there to advance the party’s interests and if you fail the party, you get withdrawn. After all some of you served for more than 12 years. Time to go Mr Shikongo and concentrate on Club Thriller, its dilapidated and makes Katutura look like a neat well-kept place.
ACC Alert
* ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION must come and inspect the misuse of GRN cars at all the army bases because the high ranks are starting to misuse their power.
* MINISTRY of Heath Otjiwarongo: THB health director please tell us why ministerial activities mostly on HIV-AIDS, TB, Malaria, COMBI & STI’s are taking place at the Tulongeni Elcin Centre and not at the ministerial venue. There were televisions, bicycles, etc, donated to some of the above-mentioned programmes. Where are those items? ACC do some investigations please.
* THE four opposing councillors are temporarily booted, to vote Taapopi back to CEO! ACC where are you? Or are they [the Council] untouchable?
Tuned Out
* ANY leader that cannot stand criticism does not qualify to be a leader. Please reinstate National Chat Show and stop dictating to us what to talk about on ewi lamanguluka/omayele kOshiwana. I do not envy Mr Kanime being young and new in that NBC CEO position.
* NBC Chat Show banned! The Namibian’s SMSes column next. – ‘Over our dead bodies’! – The Namibian team
* TO the Editor: Can you please consider adding a second page for SMSes since you are our only hope now as NBC is infringing on our freedom of speech. Can someone please sponsor? – Thank you for the suggestion. We are already considering it, and hope to have more space for SMSes up and running soon. – News Editor
City Fathers Please ...
* WHAT is it about the hole in Von Eckenbrecher Street? I have just seen the seventh driver who has passed by all the warning signs and ended up nose first in the river!
Water Woes
* WHETHER [Augustinius] Katiti [former CEO] was in Walvis or not, the rain would still have caused water problems. Katiti [who received a hefty golden handshake] did not cause the water problem.
In And From the Regions
* PLEASE, Councillor of Ogongo constituency, came to our rescue. Dictatorship still exists in the Land of the Brave. Our local water tap is closed by an individual who took the key with her to her workplace. Now we drink water from the Oshana which is not fair while she drinks clean water. Why do we have to suffer like this and until when? Simply because she is untouchable or what?
* OTJOZONDJUPA Regional Council and Governor’s office. What is the progress on the HIV-AIDS programme? There has been no meeting called to date at the regional and constituency level. Bring capable people who really care into the office. – Concerned community member
* WOULD the relevant authorities please look into the service delivery at Oshikango. No water in the taps for the last week! Imagine that. The town is a mess and an embarrassment to humanity. No drainage system, no planning, no nothing. As the first new town to have been developed since Independence it bears poor testimony to the way things have progressed in this country and a clear reflection on the appalling state of our Government affairs and the way politics and nepotism gets in the way of good governance.
* PLEASE the Municipality of Omaruru, why are you not reaching the end of the main street of Hakahana? There’s lots of rubbish there. One resident says she saw a zebra snake. Why is it you leave some and take some of the rubbish? – Spaghetty
Labour Issues
* I AM worried about the soldiers of Namibia, especially in Windhoek. They are not doing anything at their work points, except the officials in the ministry. But those who are in the bases they don’t have anything to do, just to eat, or maybe clean their yards and sleep. Why does the ministry or the Government of Namibia still recruit soldiers if there is no work for them?
* I HAVE a question on the NDF recruitment for those who applied last year. What do they base their selections on? I have applied and enclosed all the required documents but am not considered every time, while there are some who don’t meet the requirements but are selected. Why? NDF recruitment tell us please! – Emily
* IS the Government aware that the RCC wants to cut jobs?
* I WANT someone from the Labour Ministry to intervene at Ellerines Walvis Bay because we don’t have the freedom to ask question about mistakes in our salaries. No freedom of speech. Like we are not independent. – Concerned employee
* WE remain unhappy about Nafau/Metcash’s 2008 lockout where we lost our wage increase and December salary. Where is the Labour (Commissioner) and NUNW?
Health Matters
* MINISTRY of Heath Otjiwarongo. THB health director please tell us why ministerial activities mostly on HIV-AIDS, TB, Malaria, COMBI & STI’s are taking place at the Tulongeni Elcin Centre and not at the ministerial venue. There were televisions, bicycles etc donated to some of the above-mentioned programmes. Where are those items? ACC do some investigations please. General
* MY heartfelt condolences to the Rastas. I’m a nudist, not allowed by law because I promote sex and abuse. My friends, build ‘walls’ because you and I will always be misunderstood. – Your partner in ‘crime’
Zimbabwe
* WHO is fooling who? I hope now our leaders know with whom are they dealing when it comes to Robert Mugabe. Can you read it now. Some farmers went to the SADC Tribunal in Namibia, but that’s nonsense, absolute nonsense. Our land issues are not subject to the SADC Tribunal. But when it comes to cholera it must be a national disaster and SADC must help. Stop wasting our tax money, we need this money to develop our own country.
Youth Affairs
* THE PS in the Ministry of Youth should tell the media the system they used to employ the children of war veterans in the NDF. Then why are we left?
* COMRADE President please consider our High Commissioner to Botswana Hadino Hishongwa to be our minister of youth. He has vast experience in youth affairs. At the moment the ministry is in a mess. – Youth leader, Kavango
Education
* PS of Education, when are the qualified teachers trained in Zim going to be given jobs? We are always told that our subjects do not match with the local subject combination. Who is answerable on that? Our kids were sent there by the Government. – Tukondjeni
* TO the one who sent feedback from the Caprivi College. The people are paid to clean up while students study. So they must stop studying to get it cleaned while the people getting paid now and past are sitting? You obviously don’t know what’s going on! Or are you the one, the lazy cleaner? – Concerned citizen of Katima.
* POLYTECH’S part-time lecturers please inform us in advance about your kid/wife/girlfriend’s birthday so that we don’t need to waste our money and time at classes while you are not around.
