SMS For Thur 18 june 2009

SMS Of The Day   * I JUST read on page 5 that the person who murdered Waltraut Volkmann has been apprehended. My hat is off to NamPol, whose incompetence is much debated, but whose humble achievements are seldom heard of. And oh, how did they do it without intercepting the suspect’s communication?

Food For Thought
* MY dream is for the Government to build shelters for homeless people. Each region should at least have one.
– TIA

Dam For Sale?
* MINISTER of Works and Transport, Helmut Angula, was accused and condemned for allegedly trying to “sell” Etosha National Park to US’s MCA by the SPYL but Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) under MD Tobie Aupindi has “leased” the Von Bach recreational resort for 100 years. Who is fooling who here?

* THE SPYL was making a lot of noise about Etosha and Cde Angula. What is their stand now about Von Bach since one of their own is involved? It is clear they won’t say anything.

* THEY must not be allowed at the dam.

* The Von Bach dam, which is the main source of drinking water to Windhoek, has been sold by NWR without the legal right to do so. Its CEO Tobie Aupindi is avoiding clearance on the matter. In the MCA deal with Etosha, the SPYL were the first to criticise and reject it before it was brought to Parliament. Now where are they in this one? Namibians is this the leadership we want?
– Kelvin
* SELLING Von Bach resort? No wonder NWR’s MD Tobie Aupindi is a member of the Swapo Party “think tank”.

Happy Birthday
* EDITORS! Give me a space in your newspaper to say happy birthday to my mother, my grandmother and our First Lady Meme Penehupifo ya Pohamba at the celebration of your 61 years on June 16. Wishing you many, many more years.
– Cde Erastus Shuundeni at Walvis Bay

Hidipo Hamutenya

* HAPPY birthday Comrade Hidipo Hamutenya. To be 70 years means you have matured politically, socially and intellectually. You never succumbed or resorted to personal attacks, violence or hate speeches. You are a father and reliable public figure. I salute you!

* THE Namibian thanks for giving me a space in your newspaper to congratulate Hidipo Hamutenya (HH) on his 70th birthday anniversary. I will never forget what you did for the independence of this country. Otherwise the Namibian people would not be where we are today. Thanks a lot. I salute you.

* BE on your guard, stand firm in faith be a man of courage and be strong. I would like to congratulate that your leadership qualities have stood the test of time and clearly. Your good will never go unnoticed to the Namibian people. Happy 70th birthday
– N Shimwooshili.

* I WISH to congratulate you, tate Hidipo Hamutenya, on your 70th birthday. You inspire us. Long live. Namibia needs more humble people like you.
– Naumbabale

* HAPPY birthday to my hero, the man whose principles and ideologies I believe in and follow. You have given a lot of us hope and we are behind you always. May God shower you with blessings and give you the strength you need to lead us. Happy birthday Hidipo Hamutenya!

* THE 17th of June is your unforgettable day to everyone. May God be with you and happy birthday Comrade HH.

* HAPPY Birthday Comrade Hidipo Hamutenya. I wish you many years to came. May God Bless you my comrade.
– Nadula

Bouquets And Brickbats
* I SAY thank you to the nurses at Central Hospital’s prem unit. You guys work hard 24 hours a day feeding, cleaning kangaroo-ing those tiny angels while the moms are at home. You are God sent. May He bless you.
– Kambewa

* I JUST want to thank Mr Amangulu the spokesperson of the Ministry of War Veterans for the positive feedback. I think everything is clear on that issue. Namibians let’s move forward.

* WHY are there no Polana Boys? Is it because the kitchen and cooking are meant for women only?

* I WOULD like to thank Kauno for his message on Food for Thought. Indeed you take the words out of my mouth. Lucky Dube rest in peace!
– DPK

* THE City of Windhoek isn’t serious, it wants to buy new buses. What a shame they can’t even paint those ugly buses that have old advert logos for the past 15 to 25 years.

* THANKS to the manager who is dismissing the security guard for calling a lady ‘skat’. Men have to learn whom to call that because it’s so offensive to women. Hope it’s a lesson to all men who do that.

Spy Bill
* IN America, Edgar J Hoover used intercepted messages to create dossiers on all his opponents.

* THERE might be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. What is the mischief which the new ‘Spy Bill’ wants to remedy? The Swapo Government is becoming an institution to be feared. It is working towards negating our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms. We need to review the mandate of this Government. Now is the time to stand up for our rights and freedoms. This is not the racist apartheid regime! Before the dominant force is taking us back to imperialist tendencies, get up and stand, fight for your rights. The struggle is not yet over.

* CAN you people who are working on the Spy Bill come to Caprivi and pilot it on the criminals that are murdering others and cutting organs for business purposes. In 2008, more than 27 victims were registered. Ask the Police. Last week some remains were buried!
– Concerned Namibian

* CAN The Namibian newspaper on its SMS page request the public to vote on the Spy Bill and publish the results on Friday please?

* LET the Communications Bill be passed after elections to avoid rushing and suspicion! And, if the Intelligence Act has failed us, let it be amended for strengthening purposes. Clause 70 - ‘interception’ - in the Communications Bill (aka Spy Bill) must be replaced by “Access to Information” clause. We are starving for public information and not to be spied. Let the snoozing lawmakers stop fearing their electorate and be honest with this nation.
– R Gaes

In And From the Regions
* PLEASE Governor of Keetmanshoop can you please stand up for the people of Ileni. Where is the Government to help those people with electricity?

* HON Minister of Works and Transport, when is the work on the Engela bridge and other road rehabilitation going to start? The rain season is just around the corner and there is no sign of progress at all.
– GMK Ohangwena Region

* FNB, please put an ATM at Arandis. It will be good business. Please, we are tired of travelling to Swakopmund to withdraw, and it’s very expensive withdrawing at other banks’ ATMs. Please we are your customers. Imagine paying N$60 (transport to and from Swakop) in order to withdraw or withdrawing at other ATMs and getting charged more than you withdrew.

Health Matters
* SOME nurses are plain rude to the patients. We understand that they might be under pressure but that does not give them the right to be rude. They are a disgrace to the profession and need some kind of training. Please, Minister (Richard) Kamwi do something or give us a platform to report these nurses.

Education
* CAN Unam let us write exams even on Sunday, if week days are impossible during daytime? It’s risky at night, after exams, to get a taxi home.

* IS primary education free in Namibia? Is our Government aware of what is happening in some schools? Children from poor families were made to repeat their grades simply because they could not pay the school fund for last year. This happens at Bet El Primary in Windhoek. No payment of school fund, no school report and the pupil will not proceed to the next level.
– Ntobolo, Windhoek

General

First Lady, Penehupifo Pohamba

* MADAM Pohamba diplomatically is not referred to as Her Excellency! That salutation is for accredited female ambassadors, presidents (Liberia) or executive Prime Ministers. Our dear President’s wife is simply Mrs Pohamba or First Lady. Foreign Affairs/State House protocol departments help! Nappa Board of Trustees take note.

* THE copier machine for building plans has been broken since the beginning of 2008. Please repair or replace it.

* YOUR issue June 15 2009. Where is the address of the Habitat Research Centre on page 20?
– It is close to A Shipena School in Katutura: 47 Claudius Kanduvazu Street; telephone: 268 200. – Newsdesk

* ANY specific reason why Mogadishu was not quoted in the worst cities to live in?
– Maybe they were too afraid to go there to do a survey? – Newsdesk

* SEEING all these who want to be BBA hopefuls, why not have a preliminary own Namibia BBA?

* THOSE guys who rob people at ATMs, what action do Police take against them?

* PLEASE Ndilimani Cultural Group we need you to release a new CD.

* IN response to the person who wanted to know where his/her son could play soccer, contact Ricardo Mannetti at 0855545115 or 0814227243

* CORRECTION to Ms (Liz) Sibindi of City of Windhoek on her responses about the operation of the municipal bus service. There are no municipal buses operating from Khomasdal so it is not the entire Windhoek.
– Khomasdal resident

Election Fever
* IN response to the June 17 SMS regarding teachers, I think teachers should be considered for election officials as well, just like any other civil servant. Why are teachers not treated like other civil servants, no S & T etc. I’m not a teacher but I see inconsistencies in treatment. Teachers’ unions do not seem to care.

ACC Alert
* IF councillors are claiming money for official trips while not travelling is it ethical or straightforward corruption?
