Food For Thought
* THE news is full of Michael Jackson’s death from a [alleged] presumed overdose [of prescription drugs], yet hardly anything is mentioned on the death of Farrah Fawcett, a great actress, from cancer. When is the world going to realise that cancer mortality rates are higher each year, and place more emphasis on this dreaded disease, which is more pandemic than AIDS?
– I think there my be less on Farrah Fawcett’s death because it was expected and a lot was written about her ahead of the time. A number of TV stations also screened a special documentary she made on her struggle with cancer. It was also the focus of a number of shows like ‘Larry King Live’. – News Editor
Rest In Peace MJ
* THE great poet of the famous South African musical group Stimela once said “Stars may shine but then they die”, and this is evident in losing the icon Michael Jackson. May all the mourners be comforted by the song he once wrote ‘Gone Too Soon’ and may his soul rest in eternal peace!
– PM
* MICHAEL Jackson was a humble, diligent, and loving person. Rest in peace, my mentor.

* THE world has lost a talented musical icon. Michael Jackson is no more. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest peacefully.
* MICHAEL Jackson left a memory behind, he was a people’s choice and person. His spirit was so fortified to stand in front of everybody as an individual and show his personality. He is gone. But his voice could still live and be heard around the global. Nothing is more powerful than God and prayer. May his soul rest in peace.
* THIS Michael Jackson, he was a worldwide sensation, electrifying personality, talented, instinctive, blessed person and lonely man. He was really a miracle and fascinating person on the planet. Tears stream down my cheek, my body froze a while, later, I started shivering, I lost my mind a bit. Everything just happened when I tuned on the news channel at midnight on Thursday. I’m still mourning him. His history will last long.
* WE are saddened by the sudden death of Michael Jackson. He wasn’t the King of Pop. He was a King, period. Fortunately his timeless music will live on forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
* I HAD the privilege to experience the thrill of the King of Pop right here in Windhoek. RIP Prince.
* TODAY is one of the saddest days in my life! No one ever inspired me like M J and if it wasn’t for him I couldn’t have called myself a singer today.
– Freddy Taylor
* SURELY MJ has done his part for the entertainment world. Top-class entertainer, King of Pop. Thanks for all those wonderful years. RIP Prince.
* AS we mourn MJ let us remember and follow his dreams, more love and care for our children and to heal the world and make it a better place for you and the future generation, the children. The late Lucky Dube sung about the same kingdom of the children where they only cared about love, peace, kindness and happiness. May his soul rest in peace.
* PLEASE Americans tell us the cause of death of Michael Jackson, the Namibian fans want the answer. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
– Kito, Namibia.
* MICHAEL Jackson and the music. He was a superstar, the King of Pop of all time. Among his songs were ‘Beat It’, Heal the World’, ‘Thriller’ and many more. Rest in everlasting peace.

* NBC well done to repeat the news headlines after the bulletin. It helps when one misses the news at the beginning. Don’t let it slip!
* NBC. Please reverse the parliament report to its previous time. Because at 09h00 many people are at work while at 00h00 people are sleeping.
* THANK you for publishing the article ‘Namibia-Civil Society an Embarrassment’. I long for the day when there will be true peace and reconciliation on the Caprivi issue. Thank you.

* ANANDI Guesthouse, Mariental, thanks a lot for the hospitality the past two weeks. It really is a home away from home.

* LET’S be honest, as big an outrage as it was at inception, the new State House is truly something to be proud of. Where would we have put our Russian counterparts if it didn’t exist? It truly is the introduction point of foreign leaders to our country. If only we could do the same with the Independence Stadium and the international airport.
* WHAT we saw on NBC TV on Friday night is inhuman. How can people live in conditions such as those at the Lüderitz Single Quarters? The whole place needs to be demolished totally and very fast, because even Ebola/Sars and even swine flu can break out there. Wake up Council!
* BRAZIL didn’t live up to all the hype surrounding them against SA. They didn’t deserve to go through. SA were magnificent, though hounded by their age-old problem of converting chances. If they solve this problem, I think they might cause a few upsets come Fifa 10.
– Quinton, Leonardville
* VIVA Obama 11, you played well. You hammered Spain the world, Fifa number one. I hope Mr Sepp Blatter will consider the USA for Fifa world number one. We love you, same results in finals.
* AS a person who grew up in what was known as a war zone, having witnessed all the brutalities our people had gone through, and now seeing our people free in an independent Namibia, I am also supporting the notion of the founding father Cde Sam Nujoma to be given a private jet, of course it belongs to the GRN, and will be used by all former Namibian presidents, because all we are enjoying today, it’s because of him.

* DR Hage Geingob, the Minister of Trade and Industry, confirmed at the NCCI gala dinner that 80 per cent of Namibians are poor … right and Mr Ankapandi also said that unemployment is now over 50 per cent, education is in mess and how can you describe this as a success story in Namibia?
–Kamati
* WHY do only some Ministries respond to SMSes e.g. Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Prime Minister himself but what about the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication? I complained about the Chief ATC post. Please respond.
* CAN the Minster of Youth tell the Namibian nation what the mandate is for his ministry, and whether that mandate is being met. I have visited three of the youth centres in Namibia and all I find there are officers who since employed were not inducted, no flow of information, no feedback, nothing to do.

* THE Central Bank reduced its lending rate last week. When will the commercial banks act toward the consumers or do they think Namibian consumers are ignorant about the news?
*HOW long will our Gwen Lister be away?
– She has been on a month-long break and returns home at the end of this week. – Newsdesk
* CAN NBC please show us BBA4. It’s a great show. Not all people hve DStv, One Africa or M-Net! Do it please as it was shown to us with BB1! Thank you.

* INSTEAD of building toilets alongside national roads, the GRN should rather establish cleaning teams and thus provide employment.
* UGLY Creatures where are you guys! Why so quiet? We want to hear from you guys. Please do something
Education
* HON Nangolo Mbumba, directors, inspectors, do you listen to NBC’s ‘Eyakulo’? When principals are advertising teaching posts at their schools? How can they ask for three years’ of teaching experience and sometimes it is a temporary post? Does it mean, for those who graduated this year, we’ re not going to work or what?
* WHY were only the principal’s salaries restructured but not for lecturers? We are all Nantu members?
– John
And Justice For All
* ONE wonders the powers of the prison officials with regard to parole and remission of inmates. The Act makes provision for inmates that if they display good conduct, they ought to be recommended for either remission or parole, but this is not happening, and when they are recommended the Commissioner and the Parole Boards are delaying the approval, apparently it is their prerogative, mind you! Where do they get it in the Prisons Act?
Labour Issues
* OUR Swapo government wants to bring down the unemployment rate with the help of private companies and parastatals, but Telecom Namibia, partly owned by the GRN, makes a U-turn and decides to retrench almost 600 workers, with that they are weakening the policies of the government and again bring up the unemployment rate.

Service Please
* I HEARTILY agree with the SMS writer about poor service at Mugg & Bean! Leonard, please do something about the service. I have stopped going there, despite the good quality of the food served, due to poor service.
– Theo
* OPUWO Post Office please improve your service. There is only one teller while long queues are waiting.
Make sure there’s no cruelty
*PLEASE would the SPCA do checks at the horse races, some horses are being very cruelly treated.
