SMSes Of The Day

* TO receive our highly honourable, international guests in our very expensive palaces is not really a big problem. The problem is, having spent so much on this building and yet, just a few kilometres from this palace, lie thousands of unemployed Namibians, people living in shacks and box houses, dilapidated hostels and kids having to cover long distances to attend schools, those at tertiary level who can’t be supported by the GRN, so many are going hungry and the list goes on! So what is the message here? I’ll never understand these hopeless decisions! – Lite Rite   * HAVE I got it wrong? Are rhinos supposed to be protected in this country? How then does the Ministry permit trophy hunting on such an animal? How? For reference, see the front page of the German paper today (Wednesday).

Food For Thought
* I DON’T understand how passengers in cars are required by law to wear seatbelts, but it’s perfectly fine to transport hundreds of people squashed in the back of a truck. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Seal Clubbing
* SEAL clubbing. I’m disgusted that our own Government – Ministry of Fisheries – allowed such cruelty to even take place. No need for international appeals. Let our Government buy out the company, our Government should protect our animals and should be willing to spend millions on this issue. Taxpayers will be pleased.

* I CANNOT believe that seal clubbing is still happening. I am so incredibly ashamed to be Namibian if this is the kind of action the country endorses. It’s sick and speaks volumes about the lack of character of everyone who supports it in anyway. Put a stop to this now!

Message Of Condolence
* SURELY Abednego ‘Nakale’ has done his part for entertainment in Namibia. We are saddened by the death of Nakale. “Stars may shine but then they die”. May all the mourners be comforted by the song ‘Eefimboletu Olihupi’. May his soul rest in peace!

City Fathers Please ...
* CITY Police take action over Maperes at Havana Kambila so that it closes at 22h00 every day, because there is a lot fighting and shooting.
n CITY of Windhoek, please stop switching off our geysers in winter! You take ages to switch it on again.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* MANY banks have introduced senior citizen’s tellers. I salute them. But I would like the banks to please introduce tellers for the deaf and visually impaired.
– EPK

* MANY thanks to Governor Tom Alweendo of the Bank of Namibia, for ‘forcing’ the commercial banks to lower or reduce the interest rate spread to acceptable norms by year end, but my only fear is that these banks will now increase their normal bank charges to make up for the losses!
– Lite Rite

* PLEASE my favourite newspaper, find someone to proofread the Oshiwambo column, it has so many mistakes.

* TO the person who filled the pothole in the driveway to the parking area at the Orban Primary School’s rugby field. Thanks a million, it is really appreciated.

* LET me take this opportunity to thank the MVA Fund particularly Ms Tjimuku who is always willing to help any time.

* THE number plate of the taxi driver who gave N$950 and other documents back to the owner is N4116ND. He drives between Oshakati and Ongwediva. The taxi owner (me) contacted MS Kapuka via a cellphone number from a deposit slip inside her wallet.
– Well done to you! – Newsdesk

* I AM very impressed with Namibian musicians and the quality of their music videos. Though I do not agree with them using young children, especially teens, to perform in these videos. The girls are always under dressed and their body movements not proper. Won’t you agree that it might cause a distraction from important things like good morals and education?

Politics In General

* IT’S always a pity when a significant number of people see only struggle heroes and not visionaries and capable leaders.
– Peace Watchdog

* TO the person who wants (Founding President Sam) Nujoma to be given a private jet, remember that the freedom of this country was not brought by Nujoma alone! It came because of contributions by different individuals through different means. Some lost their lives, some their properties and some their sons and daughters. Nujoma did his part as an individual but was not solely responsible for the independence of this country at all thus deserve no more or less than what he already got from the government. There are those individuals who contributed but got nothing at all! Now you propose that he should get a private jet? People please wake up and stop idolising individuals making them demigods as if they are responsible for everything in this country! Lipuleninawa.

* THE Namibian you run a full-page story on Onghumbula the RDP-Swapo so-called cat and mouse game and kept quiet on what happened at Omuntele. Who is fooling who? Are you still telling as it is or telling as you like. Shame on you, because they couldn’t talk to themselves or their cars.

Running The Show
* CAN someone explain why Cabinet should interfere in the affairs of a statutorily created juristic person of TransNamib! The board is appointed to represent the shareholders’ interests! If the board therefore fires (Titus) Haimbili, so be it! Haimbili has recourse to the laws of Namibia if treated unjustly! Are we not learning from Avid? Corporate governance!

* THE more I see and hear (US President Barack) Obama the more I want the old and non-performing Namibian ministers to retire. Old is not necessarily wise. We need more than wise.
