Food For Thought
Why not each give N$10?
* WOULD it not be a good idea if all Namibian taxpayers could donate N$10 every month to help setting up viable projects that can benefit our unemployed youth. I believe this can start alleviating poverty and better the living conditions of our people.
Rest In Peace
* FATHER Nordkamp, thank you for everything you have done for Namibia. RIP.
Taxi Talk
* GIVEN that taxis are used in the majority of burglaries, they should have their signs fixed to the roof. Taxi owners should, by law, be obliged to have insurance as taxis cause a disproportionate percentage of accidents.
* WHILE understanding the concerns raised by the taxi drivers and acknowledging their unalienable right to air their views, the safety of the public takes prominence. It is the duty of the city to regulate through appropriate instruments. In many countries around the world, even the USA, taxis are clearly marked. Can someone perhaps consider not engaging in a taxi business since the requirement is to damage your car.
– Ndatunga
* CAN somebody out there please sponsor a trip for the Nabta president and his management outside the country to go and see how other countries run the affairs of the taxis so that they can educate their members. Why the outcry if requested to put on permanent taxi signs on top of the vehicles? I support the idea of giving all taxis the same colour. The outcry is because lately there have been a lot of robberies with taxis.
* TAXI drivers. What level have we dropped to, to have to reward taxi drivers for being polite, offering good service and following traffic rules? Makes me shake my head.
– Surprised
* YOUR coverage on the taxi saga is too biased and unprofessional. The impression created is that all the affected and grieved ones are now all of sudden the culprits. Get real and remain neutral in your coverage.
Politics
* I WAS told that it is very rude to wonder if it is some top politicians who got the swine flu? I wonder though if the swine are the ones that feel offended!
* MOST youth leagues are more into politics of the belly than into education and development for the youth, no wonder ours is a youth without a mission!
General
* THE fight against crime will not be won in Windhoek unless the Namibian Police realise that there is a great need to have satellite Police stations to serve the different suburbs of the city.
* PLEASE NBC TV, repeat ‘Tate Penda’ this upcoming Sunday after the News at 20h00.
* AS a Namibian woman I shall dress as I like. After all, I am answerable to God on my outfit. MG, does your bible not say ‘Thou shalt not judge’?
* MG, what is eating you up? Who gave you the right to insult women the way you did? You should be ashamed of yourself. You sound full of bitterness.
* I AM a heterosexual woman and I am very unhappy with an article on page 3 of The Namibian, July 28. Our so-called leaders have no right to put a ban on anything because they find things distasteful. Get over yourselves. If you’re not willing to stand up for everyone, you are in the wrong business. PS you have no right to decide whose way of life is immoral. If they harm none, let them be.
The Hitman
* CONGRATULATIONS to Mr Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses. A lot of fighters can throw good punches but a champion has got to be able to take a good punch as well.
* CONGRATULATIONS Hitman! But he needs to change his style of fighting as world champion. Many people did not enjoy his style during their WBA lightweight world title.
* DEAR people stop criticising the Founding Father for whatever he is doing. For your info, ‘The Hitman’ himself invited him as his role model for the contribution he has made to help the poor, orphans and vulnerable children as well. Some churches are doing their best in that regard, but some are dormant. It’s the best idea for all registered churches in Namibia to give at least N$1 000 per month to a special account under their auspices, to cater for the people mentioned above. The government must also stop allowing evil conduits of corruption for Namibia to have a shining future.
– KH
* I WANT to say this, the author of the SMS on Tuesday asking (Founding President Sam) Nujoma went into the ring raising a fist, is short minded. ‘The Hitman’ personally requested HE Founding Father to come there, plus, a raised fist is not only Swapo. It’s power to the people. Get your facts right before you jump to unfounded and stupid conclusions. Take note that even the DTA’s sign usually means peace, so, leave Father Nujoma alone. Don’t put politics where they cannot fit. Sometimes we comment on things which are of no importance.

Bouquets And Brickbats
Gazza off to the World Champs
* CONGRATS to Gazza on his invitation to the World Athletics Championships (in Germany). Take Namibian music to the next level like always. You are the king.
– Local music lover.
* I WOULD like to thank a taxi driver in whose taxi I forgot my mobile after taking a ride from Hochland Park to Freedomland. The taxi driver in question happened to be a man of the cloth and kept my phone safely for me until I dialled my number. Keep up the good work Reverend, Namibia needs more of you type.
* USAKOS State Hospital is not only tidy, the staff is professional and the environment very friendly. Thumbs up guys.
– Mara Slinger
* DEAR Editor, I would like to express my concerns regarding the ‘Talk of the Nation’ programme on NBC TV every Monday evening. When I pronounce the phrase ‘Talk of the Nation’ I thought the public will be given sufficient time to air their views, and ask questions. But it is not so. Therefore the concerned group should look into this matter, otherwise the programme will be useless and a waste of time.
* ALLOW me to thank NBC TV for an educative, humoristic and well performed movie on Sunday (‘Tate Penda’). We enjoy it and would love to see better written, excellently acted and true movies in the future.
– Lourencia
* THUMBS up to the newly appointed acting Director General of NBC. We can see lots of changes!
– Dr Lee
* A JOB well done by workers representative for Omaruru Labour Consultant. You’ve really worked in the interests of employees. Don’t let us down please.
– Your client Mbwae
* MTC we in Aranos appreciate the cellphone reception. You need to speed up with the installation of the 3G broadband system. Please.
* PLEASE ban Cross Currents by Bob and replace it with our SMSes, and I think he can be accommodated there as well.
– Kamati
* HAS Mr Kandetu run out of topics for his column? His change of a football team is hardly worth the ink and space of a respected media powerhouse as The Namibian newspaper. And by the way, people who become fans and change the teams they follow too often based on perceived potential for success are termed ‘Glory Hunters’. I for one have long been converted to the puritan approach to the beautiful game as exemplified by Arsenal/Barcelona and would always support those teams regardless of the personnel involved.
Running The Show
* I JUST want to know what is happening at the Ministry of Finance Inland Revenue? As from April 2009, we were supposed to pay less income tax but up until now we are still being taxed on the old rate.
– These changes must first be approved by Parliament before they are introduced. – Newsdesk
* PLEASE the Commissioner of Prisons, improve on your services. Members don’t have proper uniforms or none at all. Please put your house in order.
– Atushetutala
In And From The Regions
* ONGWEDIVA Town Council, your rates and taxes are too high, in comparison to other towns. You are really overcharging us. Compare your rates with other towns across the country and tell us what benchmark you are using when determining your rates.
– Ratepayer
* THE Namibian people come to our rescue. I am living at Rooikop Base, where there is an ammunition demolition plant which has been here for some years. Some health inspector recommended that the plant has health hazards for soldiers living in Rooikop Base. So can anyone open the Government’s eyes.
* ONGWEDIVA Town Council, please give all the streets in town names! We as residents, find it very difficult to direct people. Go and learn from other towns. In some towns like Tsumeb, streets were just given numbers and it was quite useful.
– Concerned resident
* PHILIPPI Trust, please your courses are needed in Katima. We have serious problems here. HIV, alcohol abuse, gambling, etc. Trained counsellors we urgently need.
* IS there a difference between the Gobabis Municipality and the Lüderitz Municipality? The Lüderitz Municipality builds houses before they move the people. The Gobabis Municipality moves the people from the Road Camp to an unknown place.
