The complaints by Swapo about the SMS page are outdated. If they were to stop it, it could have been done already. Give space to deserving current news rather than make Swapo feel it is victimised.
Food for Thought
n THE query about the separate location of social services, social welfare and child welfare is misdirected! The Prime Minister does not create offices, ministries or agencies! That is a prerogative of the President!
Democracy Rules
n SWAPO Party Elders Council really wants the people to stop expressing its views on an already deteriorating nation. These text message senders are just concerned. The elders’ council are part of the destruction of this country since they can’t control the confused youth of Swapo. Mr Hishoono, this is what we call democracy. Don’t try to keep the masses quiet and voiceless. Concentrate on the broken-down Swapo because you are their elder. Thank you for the co-operation.
n IT’S clear that people are afraid to put their names at the end of their SMSes. My dear people, this is a democracy and not Zimbabwe. They won’t and can’t kill us or arrest us all. So add your names please.
n CAN Jerry Ekandjo and others come out strongly and defend our democracy at NBC? Where are we heading? The international community should also protect the Namibian nation in this regard.
n PEOPLE do not be misled by your narrow way of thinking. The fact that some of our politicians cannot read properly does not mean that they are less knowledgeable or less intelligent for that matter. Wake up and remember where you came from. Do not forget that these people were denied education. Remember that English is just a language like other languages. How many languages do you know? Where do you position yourself as far as those leaders are concerned? They have brought you where you are now. What have you done for this country and its people with your so-called well-spoken and well-written English? So stop insulting elders, it does not do you any good. We are all happy about President Obama and I do not think he will be happy with your statement because in his speech he has highlighted the hardship blacks have gone through and he respects elders and remember your leader is your leader.
n SMS of the Day is mainly used for anti-Swapo propaganda. Stop it! – We’re glad you use this platform to express your opinion! – News Editor
Politics
n IN Zimbabwe, Simba Makoni’s democratic right to contest the presidential elections caused the mess the country finds itself in today. Tsvangirai would have won right from the beginning. Here in Namibia, all opposition parties should field only one common presidential candidate that they all agree on to avoid going into the second round which might end up like in Zimbabwe.
n LEAVE politics out of the church. Whenever there is a marriage between state (politics) and church, there is persecution. History repeats itself and surely it will. Read tomorrow’s news in Revelations.
– Noa
n HOW contradictory that Swapo finds it unfit for non-Swapo members to head parastatals yet expects people to trust Swapo companies to print ballot papers!
Politics In General
n I AM strongly against the creation of a continental government at this stage or the near future, particularly given the prevalent current state of affairs amongst some of power-hungry African leaders for example the likes of (President Robert) Mugabe and the Kenyan president who do not believe in peaceful government transition, refusing to accept defeat. How do African leaders guarantee that they or their countries would not fight over the continental presidency? I am an African and a United States of Africa is a great idea but only until African leaders or people change their mentalities in a positive way toward democracy, freedom of expression, recognition of all human rights and respect, corruption, power, defeat acceptance and peaceful transition of political powers, transparent and honesty ways of handling the continent’s natural resources. The time is not yet ripe for the unity African government. Our minds especially that of our leaders must first change for the better! I do not want to be rude but that is the naked reality and truth!
Zimbabwe
n WHAT a joke, Mugabe ready and willing to rebuild the global economy.
n PLEASE can someone enlighten us. How can sanctions of a travel ban to Europe, and being refused to bank there for the Mugabe cabinet paralyse Zimbabwe? Mugabe must have done something else ... what is it Bob, spill the beans!

n UNITED Windhoek Hospitals. Before 1990, with the Apartheid AG8, the Windhoek hospitals were separated. After Independence the hospitals came together, under the umbrella of the Windhoek State Hospital Complex. This worked well. However, in 1997-8 a misguided restructuring exercise again separated the hospitals. The tribalistic, entitlement-based management fiasco came to an end recently. A medical school at Unam needs a united academic hospital school. (Health Minister) Dr Richard Kamwi had the vision and common sense to realise this. Hence his recent roadmap speech for 2009. Congratulations!
n I WAS admitted to the Khorixas State Hospital and I want to applaud the sisters there, especially in the women’s ward, for the good and friendly service. State hospitals are not that bad after all.
n DSTV you shouldn’t have deprived us of the English Premier League in the first place!

n IN connection with the SMS regarding the MTC competition, just tell the person all of us can’t afford cars. Thanks MTC for making a difference in a person’s life.
Bye Bye Bob
n WE all know the real reason why Bob Kandetu was fired. As a Swapo Party member I am disappointed in my party. It was a cowardly decision on an innocent man.
n WHY is the mighty Swapo digging its own grave? Please don’t spoil this country of ours by being so selfish. What has Bob Kandetu done and whom did you replace him with?
– Very Disappointed Swapo member
n WAS the former NBC DG appointed by Swapo? If not, why are some people blaming Swapo? For your information the NBC board can appoint and fire DGs. They are barking up the wrong tree.
– U 2, Ongwediva
n I AM very disappointed to hear what happened to NBC’s DG Mr Bob Kandetu. Really, to tell the truth Namibian democracy is in a coma and soon will die and this is a reality believe or not. And it is more painful to see it to be killed by the same people who brought it. Shame on them.
n HONESTLY I’m happy Mr Bob Kandetu has been relieved of his duties. The nation should unite and propose making the corporation private. As much as I’m not a fan of our politicians, it’s clear that nobody at the corporation is doing a really good job. As a mater of fact they should fire everybody and replace them with people who are passionate about their jobs. The same goes for radio as well.
n SWAPO has once again shown its political immaturity by firing Bob Kandetu. Bob you did an outstanding job, we are proud you.
n KANDETU gone! Watch this space. Millions in severance package shall follow that the taxpayer will have to foot. Politics!
Health Matters
n LAST year South Africa found melamine in Lactogen milk for babies. Why are shops in Namibia still selling it?
– Thanks for pointing this out. We’ll see what we can find out. – News Editor
n TO the uninformed and selfish patient complaining about the gynae department at Katutura State Hospital. The doctors start work promptly at 07h30 in the wards seeing to inpatients and their management which at most times requires theatre. Then afterwards they attend to out patients at GOPD. We work hard and without breaks in a not so conducive environment. We are doing our best.

n HON Councillor of Tsandi constituency, please convene an urgent meeting to map out strategies to curb the present horrific deaths of innocent people of Onakaheke Community and its surroundings being killed by youth thug(s). An elderly woman was brutally stabbed to death on January 30, her son maimed and is fighting for life. She is the fifth victim to be killed. Please involve the church, community leaders, youth, social worker and police to find a solution. Our life is at stake.
n US students at Mashare Irrigation Centre 2008-09 intake, we request from the Ministry of Agriculture to allocate us plots after we complete training. We don’t want to be like the last two intakes who were not allocated. Please Hon John Mutorwa do something with your department. We are here to get experience, to use it, not to waste it around the streets.
– Green Scheme Trainee at Mashare
n DEAR (Health) Minister (Richard) Kamwi. Are you aware that at Ohaukelo clinic there is one nurse and a cleaner? Please visit that area in Ohangwena Region, Omulonga Constituency.
n THE Ongwediva Municipality should consider building an overhead bridge at Okandjengedi to save the kids that are finding it difficult to cross to their school.
n JUST asking. As an employee and driver of the Ministry of Health I just want to know from our Minister why it is they don’t give proper training to us in the different districts so we can fall under the same categories as the ambulance officers in Windhoek. We perform the same duties and more than those in Windhoek. We drive long distances and are also exposed to danger and our salaries are lower than theirs but they expect proper service.
n PLEASE Ministry of Finance bring inland revenue offices to the Ohangwena and Omusati regions. Oshakati is too far.

n EMPLOYEES of security companies are paid peanuts. What does the Minister of Labour think of this? Please reply because we can’t cope with these wages. What is labour hire?
Education
n STUDENTS and academic staff at Unam admit that the university is deteriorating. Unam needs an independent quality assurance and evaluation department like other universities in the world. How else can one measure quality and ensure a standard of education.
n THE Government should try to introduce supplementary exams for Grade 12 and 10 somewhere in March, so that learners can improve on the subjects the got below a C, instead of sending them to Namcol. It’s done like this in South Africa.
n CAN the Language Centre at Unam show the Registrar of the institution whether materials exist for all the courses on offer? Could the Registrar request such proof?
