Food for Thought
* TO the Windhoek Municipality and all Namibians. I am a Namibian who grew up in Europe and feel very challenged by many things happening in Africa, and in Namibia, especially when it comes to Christmas decorations and TV programmes for Christmas. As Africans, do we not have Christmas in an African context? Winter symbols and a European Christmas don’t mean anything to me regarding Christmas or the season. What do all those decorations from the Windhoek Municipality represent? We do not have a winter Christmas. Maybe it is time for us, as Namibians, to start to do things that represent our country, its people and its geographical location.
Bouquets and Brickbats
* I WOULD like to thank the Ministry of Safety and Security, especially the firearms department, for good service. It’s not everyday that you receive such outstanding service. A special thanks to Sergeants Mweenda and Judika for the prompt assistance. Keep up the good work and have a Merry Xmas.
– Mr Obaking
* HI The Namibian, I really like your T-shirt, ‘This is Namibian Country’ like the one worn by Eddy (from Big Brother). How do I get one, please help.
– Nam fan!
They can be bought at our office for N$40.

* FOR morality reasons, Mrs Lister must apologise for the non-thinker statement, because at least they thought about reconciliation, so that she can run this newspaper freely.
In and From the Regions
The Christmas story
* IT’S Christmas time, let’s pray for those in need and vulnerable in our community!
– From Tses
* MUNICIPALITY of Tsumeb, please pay more attention to houses on the corner of each street, even if you have to lower their water tariffs for the owners to maintain their gardens and sustain the beauty of the town. Some houses are so dilapidated. Owners if you can’t maintain your house sell it. How do you feel? Neighbours clean up, you are dirtying the town. Please council do something, drive and pay attention to those filthy areas and houses that dirty our town.
* WHAT happened to investigative journalism? Taxpayers money continues to be misappropriated from the Rehoboth Town Council.
* THE way Government food aid is distributed at Uis is totally ridiculous, selfish and corrupt. Can the Government let the distribution be handled by its officials next time please.

Health Mattters
* IS it human for Onandjokwe pharmacy staff to close for lunch while patients are languishing in the sun outside? Can’t they take turns? Come on hospital management, please treat sick people humanely and with respect and dignity!
* TO all medical aid holders, I think something has to be made known: Most medical aids refuse to pay for treatment for pancreatitis because one of its common causes is alcohol intake. So be warned not to down excessive alcohol during this festive season as pancreatitis is a life-threatening disease. You may find yourself in State hospital care as if you never had a medical aid, or digging deeper in your wallet for cash to cover your treatment. Anyhow the best way to enjoy yourself is not by taking alcohol .
* I AM a nurse at a Katutura hospital and I’m really tired of working almost every Sunday night without a casualty officer. I’m not sure whether our minister is aware of the current situation in order to take the matter into consideration. Thanks.
Election Wrap
* MR Ndjarakana! I want to know why polling officials got different amounts. Didn’t they do the same work? Think of a N$1 000 difference. Is it not too much?
* CAN the ECN tell us why there is a difference in salaries, some polling officials even got more than a presiding officer. We want answers.
* I WAS one of the polling officers and I am very disappointed with the salary that ECN paid us. They let us work day and night without resting, food and water for almost five to six days and they only paid our day shift. When will they pay our over-time?
* DAYS without sleep and proper rest because of ECN is equal to the small amount paid to us. Given such a huge responsibility and being paid N$2 600 is a joke. What’s with ECN. Please review your rates. As for me I am done with ECN.

Holiday Travel
* NABTA should get serious, people are being robbed left and right by these public transport drivers. It is not a question of where people are loaded, but a question of making sure that Nabta’s regulations and policies are fully obeyed. Nabta officials should wake up and see this and stand up to implement their laws to protect our hard-earned small resources from these greedy people.
* NABTA should protect people from being over-charged by these public transporters by providing a toll free or a number to the public to send SMSes to report these people. Just like any other well-organised organisation. Whoever is the chief officer there, please let Nabta be active and protective .
* I WANT to know who approved the new big taxi sign? People, those signs are too big and they can be fatal in case of an accident. My request is to keep the old ones and ban those.

Labour Issues
* IF you are a tour guide and an ambassador of Namibia while driving the tourists, why should you not talk about history and politics and religion? My boss told me not to talk about politics and religion. It feels to me like China in 1989, where we were only allowed to talk about the weather and food.
* LABOUR hire: One doesn’t know to whom to turn to in case of immediate emergencies, sickness or household problems, since the one on whose floor you work is solely interested in service delivery. The labour company is a distance away. Go and they have you replaced with immediate effect. They can step on you, swear at you and spit on you.
* NOW the Government must promulgate a law that will compel labour hire companies to register their employees and contribute 30 per cent of the labourer’s earnings received from the hirer into a labour fund which must buy a pension. The other 60 per cent must be shared equally between the labourer and hire company. Fair is fair.

Service Please
* TELECOM kindly stick to the terms and conditions of your 3G internet device. Instead of keeping to the promised GB per day, you now allow the people to exceed the GB and then charge them exorbitantly. A giant company like Telecom does not hesitate to charge N$6 000. I applied for 3G to pay N$298 a month not all my earnings. My bank details were only availed for the amount that you promised for 24 month. Telecom compete with other companies in good faith. We are poor people who have other financial obligations. Find another way to use 3G. Or go back to the initial amount of N$298 dollars per mount per month. Emulate others.

* NAMMIC please give your staff training. It takes weeks for them to only sort out the basic requirements and another 10 workings days to process. Customer service please.
* MTC save the nation and stop this 60 free minute system. You cannot make a call after 19h00 anymore because everyone is trying to call for free. If you find yourself in trouble, you won’t be able to call the Police because you cannot get through as the network is busy all the time. And the charges are too high during the day. If they can came up with something new I’ll appreciate it.
* IOL please respond to our SMS on your laptop specials you are advertising in The Namibian. I SMSed twice but no response or are you just generating funds though SMSes?
* DStv must bring back channels like SABC 1, 2, 3 and e-tv, because it’s unfair that we pay N$499 monthly, and people who don’t pay anything watch for free, there’s not even wrestling on DStv, only at One Africa. Please think about us we pay lot of money.
