SMSes Of Wednesday 19 August 2009

* SECRETLY there are both novice and seasoned politicians in Namibia trying to bet their luck by playing a tribal ace card particularly in areas where such divisions were diminished in recent history. In daylight and bright halogen lights they pretend to be the most caring and unifying figures. To you the youth of Namibia I say let us shun them and their underhand pawns. If we are united during the day we must be united in darkness too. No youth in the right frame of mind should emulate the political roulette games of those who have lost vision and are now relying only on patronage, bribery, name calling and shameful insults, going even against the fundamental human rights comparable only to apartheid colonial savagery. Shun them outright as your terrible circumstances are what they equate with success over the past 19 years. – Ndikuwete Taalungwina

* WHAT turnaround strategy are we talking about at the NWR? Liabilities outstrip assets by N$60 million. Let us wake up and stop diverting our attention deliberately from real issues. Why don’t we pause and compare the entertainment budget of the City of Windhoek with overspending of the NWR of over N$10 million and the bonus of over 300 thousand for the CEO of the MVA Fund? Who’s fooling who here? Let’s leave the molehills and focus on mountains, my fellow patriots.

Food For Thought
* IN NAMIBIA a time will come when the blind will see and the fat cats will run for their lives. Those exploiting and abusing the less fortunate must watch and learn from the South African example. Our leaders might have sold the country but not Namibians.

* WE cannot just ignore racism, but we shouldn’t blame it unnecessarily. There is still racism in Namibia, done by whites and blacks alike. We are not treated equally in our workplace, schools, restaurants, etc. For a born-free I strongly advise that you should grab all opportunities this country offers so that we will never blame racism.
– Kamati

Who’s Boozing Who
* COMRADE Peter Iilonga’s remark on alcohol was confirmed to be true on NBC TV news on Monday. Did you see the owners of the alcohol company opening in town?
– Romeo

* DON’T we have enough finger wagging in the Swapo Party? Is there still room for a tail-wagging lilonga? Just fire him.

* I DON’T agree with the statement Mr Ilonga made, I think it is way out of line. But you didn’t have to publish the letter you published in your Friday edition, insulting each other to that extent will not help the situation, on the contrary it will make matters worse. Please check what you print, that letter is fuelling hatred between black and white. Remember two wrongs doesn’t make a right!

* WE salute you Comrade Iilonga you are a comrade and never wavered. Keep the fire burning let them make a noise. Viva Ekanda.
– Endjala

* THE NAMIBIAN allowed the writer to “insult others”? Who are others? Mr Peter Iilonga? He insulted the people first – the youth and the ‘whites’ – with his shameful utterances. Is he not an elected lawmaker and Cabinet member? The UN Bill of Rights warns in its Preamble, Par. 3, that, “Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law”. Not the rule of Iilonga but the rule of law should prevail in this country. He should consider resigning or be forced to retire with a vote of no confidence!

* BY ONLY publishing SMSes that are aimed at tarnishing Comrade Iilonga’s name, is clear proof that your newspaper is anti-Swapo, but whether you like it or not Iilonga will never waver like those you are trying to promote.
– Mundu
– The Namibian is not anti any party. We also don’t shy away from publishing SMSes that are critical of this newspaper. Further, we have published SMSes, etc, supporting Deputy Minister Iilonga. However, the majority have been overwhelmingly critical. Politicians are not exempt from criticism. To say that The Namibian is anti-Swapo is a cop-out! – News Editor

* COMRADE Iilonga is a man of principle, I’m proud of him, the changes he brought about when he joined the Ministry of Labour. Ordinary staff members couldn’t claim S&T, it was reserved only for managers with their fat salaries and benefits. Please leave him alone.

Politics
* TO VOTE for five more years of hell? We suffered under unemployment, poverty, poor education and health services. Corruption? GIPF = N$650m (million), ODC = N$100m, Kapia’s Avid = N$30m, fake arms deal = N$3m, Kabila’s cash loan = N$25m and Tekla’s China gift=N$120m, etc. For 20 years, we gave them a two-thirds majority and now they want 100% = 72 seats. To do what? We’re not fools!

* I WONDER what went into some people’s minds, like Nekundi of SPYL. He was the first to hug Teckla [after she was granted bail] and one wonders whether he shared the excitement of the bail release of the trio or was trying to be a two-faced fellow. Not long ago he was one of the loud mouths asking for the removal of Teckla’s husband as Chairman of TransNamib’s board. To many of us, this youngster has lost his IQ or his memory is limited. Please my wish for you is to mature and to learn what to do, say when you are where. Be exemplary to the other youth whom are not enjoying the same exposure as you. Anyway you are my comrade in Swapo, just a piece of advice. Viva Swapo.
- Gwangendjo
* PLEASE let us not blame the Namibian Government for poverty in Namibia but put the blame on the Swapo Party government.

*  LET’S keep politics straight and honest. Why – after 20 years – give “veteran status” to ex-detainees? The ruling party ignored their plea all these years. They never asked for financial compensation – “only” rehabilitation to go on with their lives.
– Waltraut

*  I HAVE seen the analysis of Nudo manifesto published in The Namibian of August 17 2009 on page 5. As born-free and first-time voter I am very impressed.

*  THANK you very much to the Nudo leadership for producing such a marvellous manifesto, keep it up.

*  WE, the APP youth, know exactly that our number one enemy is not colonialism or the white community in this country but poverty, unemployment, underdevelopment, corruption, nepotism, lack of proper and quality education, political intolerance and discrimination which lead to crime, disease and laziness. APP therefore will remain focused on the social wellbeing of our people.

*  TO ALL democratic Namibians, we have a choice during the November elections to vote for Hon Pohamba in the presidential election, but vote for more opposition in the NA elections. This way we can strike the balance on debating national issues in Parliament and get rid of lazy MPs from the ruling party.

To The President
* HAPPY Birthday Comrade President! Your leadership and contribution to Namibia’s development inspires the Namibian nation. May you have many more years to come.
– Tuikila and Kaiyamo family

* PRESIDENT Pohamba, please turn your heart to the cry of the poor. Their dwellings are being destroyed, they pay more, no jobs, no food and you don’t rebuke the wastage of entertainment budget by mature rich City of Windhoek executives. There is no money is a lie because millions are disappearing. His Excellency, God chose you for his nation and he is watching and shaking his head. Saul’s disobedience caused God to raise up a young David.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* What a way to start the week with the picture of ‘A diplomatic boob ... or two’!

* YOU would have sold the same number of papers on Friday with the headline ‘President acts on Teckla’.

* ONE has to give credit were it’s due. A big thank you to all nurses and doctors at Rundu State Hospital. Your dynamic service is highly appreciated. May God bless you all and keep smiling. Thank you Dr Chibwe and your crew.
– Salonica Tjimune
* MINISTER Kamwi, thank you. The terrain of Windhoek Central Hospital looks great. The lawn, the new fence, etc. Keep it up.

Education
* THUMBS up for Lüderitz SS. Really going for Platinum. Namibians, we seek your help for this high performing school to finish their school hall. Go LSS.
– Hedira

* NIMT opened in the South (Keetmanshoop). Looking at the recent intake, the locals are conspicuous in their absence.
– MK

* WE TEACHERS of Erongo Region fail to understand why we are treated by the deputy director of education in a racist manner when we approach him for enquiries. The PS must bring this guy to order. Namibia is independent.

* DEAR inspector of education, Grootfontein circuit. I was just wondering about the GSS and PSWN school board elections or should I say arrangements. Apparently there will be no “official” elections as the required number of members is just exact from both schools (8 parents and 5 teachers). I want to know why was the number of the “so-called nominees” kept quiet until after the due date? Please inspector, do you think this is a democratic proceeding? Or maybe ACC should intervene!

* I WAS working in the street in Karasburg with my husband when schoolgirls shouted and screamed “Hey guy I want to be yours!” three times. And it shocked me and disappointed me that young girls had no self-respect and through that put their school’s name in shame. And in school uniform. What a shame. Please Ernst Jager parents and teachers educate your children about sex.

* I WOULD like to thank Selly for speaking for the voiceless of Omuve JSS. Teachers should understand how education has to be, and they should be resourceful teachers who are able to produce successful learners instead of turning schools into personal issues. To all students countrywide, know that when life goes on, it changes direction, so fight for your rights.

* A PRIMARY school in Rehoboth will undertake a tour to SA. Is that wise. Does the ministry approve?

* I WOULD like to congratulate the old lady from Berseba speaking the national language. Let it be an encouragement for others to follow the literacy programme.

Health
* KHOMASDAL Clinic, not poor service but no service at all. I had a cut in my hand, waited in the queue for three hours! Had to walk out. What about citizens with worse than a cut?
– K

* IN addition to my previous SMS on falling apart of Windhoek Mental Hospital, which is still so, I would like to comment on the aged Katutura Hospital lifts which have really become a health hazard, and I will repeat my call for Minister Kamwi to revisit his priorities, because you have them upside-down. Fact.
The Flu
* H1N1. Are there no precautionary measures for H1N1? If so, what is the Ministry waiting for? The Ministry should tell us what and how the Ministry intends to rescue the nation. We appreciate the daily statistics but actions now please!
– We appreciate your concern. There have been numerous reports in this newspaper and others on the precautions to take. One of the most important remains the washing of hands. We plan to run a regular checklist in the hope that it will help. – News Editor

*  DR RICHARD Kamwi stand up and distribute or give the Tamiflu as a vaccine to all the Namibians like you did in the case of polio over the years. Before it is too late. If possible.
– Shea
– Tamiflu is not a vaccine but a medicine for those who already have the flu. A vaccine is still being produced. – Newsdesk

* TO THE Ministry of Health and Social Services. Why don’t you organise a campaign so that everybody can be immunised because they say prevention is better than to cure.
– Helvy

* MINISTER Kamwi this is now the right time to prove your speech towards the nation. Telling people not to panic due to swine flu? You better stop your daydream speech. And stop using taxpayers’ money on your travelling and to lie to nation. Let experts go and say facts rather than you to go and mess up with your speech. Thanks!
– joujou
– I AM not the Minister’s spokesperson but would like to say that while the Minister is saying we should not panic, he is not saying that we should not be vigilant! He has repeatedly urged Namibians to be vigilant and to take the necessary precautions. – News Editor

* IT was a “do not panic” stance from Minister of Health, Dr Richard Kamwi, when the first case of swine flu was confirmed. Now there are 14 cases. Suspend Kamwi please.
– Please note that not panicking is not equivalent to doing nothing. – News Editor
n WHY can the Ministry of Health and Social Services not introduce the H1N1 swine flu test free campaign for the Namibian people.
* I’D like to support views of two ladies in yesterday’s paper, please test all the visitors coming for the Ongwediva Trade Fair, I’m even afraid to go there.
– L Latoka

Service Please
* HOW long does it take for beneficiaries to get their deceased loved ones’ benefits who have passed on in retirement while awaiting a GIPF retirement package? For my own information. Samaritans please don’t hesitate to text me on 0812213845.
– Smelling a Rat!

* WHY don’t they put someone behind the controls at NBC-TV News who knows the job? We are tired of ongoing muddling up of inserts, wrong pics and bad quality of visuals and sound!

* KFC at Etango complex please improve your service, please supply us with tomato sauce and salt with the meals and not only vinegar. We are paying for it.

* NBC please bring more wrestling programmes. Most Namibians enjoy it.

* COMRADE Kankoshi, please do something about Uuhama. We need electricity in order to achieve the goal.
– Gerson ‘Viera’

* I WANT to hear from NBC Oshiwambo radio why they play foreign music for example Angolans and South Africans and the DJs are also speaking Portuguese like DJ Riano. If he wants to speak Portuguese than he must go to Angola radio and we are sick and tired of your Portuguese and start playing Namibian music please.
– Namibian listener

* I THINK there’s too much noise coming from Trade Centre at night. Please check your machines.

* THIS ‘Scratch a million’ lottery card being advertised, is it licensed and legitimate? MET please confirm. Losing 20 dollars is a lot of money for the poor.

* WE want electricity at Okandjengedi south please Ms Katrina we waited for more than ten years now. Thanks for bringing water to our area.

* MANAGEMENT of Woermann & Brock Swakopmund, please stop promoting workers because of colour, tribe and favour. Start looking at the workers’ experience, qualifications and performance. We are tired of being casuals for 6 years. Take a good example from Pick `n Pay, Spar etc.

* THE Namibian / Bank Windhoek - why no index listing from the Namibia Stock Exchange each day? Only SA and international markets? Build Team Namibia!
– Robin Tyson

* MTC have to improve their network between 10pm and 6am, it is very difficult to call or SMS Police. Please do something before it’s too late.

* WE are tired of gravel streets in Hakahana and Wanaheda. Our cars are being damaged. Councillors, what’s your duty? We are gatvol now.

In And From The Regions
* IT can’t be. Outjo Municipality management please what is that now? No one to be asked about that fire which burned down your offices because you have the reason why that happened.

* THE municipality here in Outjo burnt down today, we are still waiting for our accounts for July. The answer they gave us is that they were busy with their year-end. The auditors should come to our municipality and look what is going on here. Something is not right.

* I’M shocked in despair to hear millions lying around in the Karas trust fund while so many residents in the region are suffering, clear testimony that those in management positions don’t know the needs of the region, they don’t care. They must be fired.

Lost And Found
* I HAVE picked up Alana Vosloo’s National Identity Card. Contact me at 081 260 9483.
