* NAMIBIA is the only place on earth where you become a millionaire through earning a salary. Land of contrasts.
* WHICHEVER political party is welcome in my house to campaign because it’s my own private property. After all it’s up to an individual to make a political choice.
* HOW furious must one get? I am really mad. My domestic employee was loyally coming to work this morning and she was accosted by three knife-wielding young hooligans and relieved of all valuables including her cellphone. It appears to be the accepted thing that no one else standing at the bus stop will help.
Food For Thought
* IT IS funny that ‘lawmakers’ who have not studied law make laws and the sentences when someone breaks them. The people who studied law just enforce these laws. I can imagine how painful it might be for magistrates and judges when handing down judgement because the gravity of the offences in many cases does not match the sentences.
– Joe Sasa
* IS THE practice of issuing obsequious declarations glorifying the president on his birthday an internationally accepted practice or is it unique to countries like Namibia and North Korea? Or is it encouraged by newspapers to pad their coffers?
* SHAME on all the parastatal and private companies that brown-nose the politicians by putting large ads in the newspaper when they celebrate their birthdays. For the parastatals that are always short of cash why don’t you just go to CNA and buy a nice birthday card and send it to the person concerned, I am sure they would appreciate it more.
– Straight talker
* BLAME on someone else if we know that we as leaders have somehow failed our children. Let’s accept the fact that we as blacks are failing each other. Come on Namibians, the majority of our leaders are black and yet they are the ones parking Government vehicles at drinking outlets. Oh yah I’m a black girl!
– Maria
Happy Birthday
* HAPPY birthday the Founding Father of Swapo, our liberation struggle hero, Cde Herman Andimba Toivo ya Toivo. May the Lord Almighty vindicate you as you are celebrating your birthday and may God Almighty let His showers of blessings fall upon your life. You are indeed our blessing that our Almighty God gave to this Namibian nation. Wish you many, many more productive years to come.
– Kassian Amesho
* HAPPY birthday Comrade ya Toivo! You are a true freedom fighter, you are the icon of Nam liberation. Ya Toivo is Namibia, Namibia is ya Toivo. You are a great man!
* CDE STEVEN Kevanhu and his wife, wish to congratulate tatekulu cde Andimba Toivo ya Toivo on his 85th birthday. We wish to convey to you warmest blessings on the happy occasion of your birthday and wish you many more returns and blessings from above. You are a true founding father of this nation. Happy birthday tate Andimba!
Happy Birthday
* HAPPY birthday our uncle Herman Andimba Toivo ya Toivo and your family. To be honest with every citizen of this country of ours you are the true father of the Namibian nation. Long live Tatekulu and God bless you. We love you so much.
Politics
* GEORGE Orwell’s book ‘Animal Farm’ interprets the political system in Namibia under Swapo Party government whereby some people are more equal than other people. Swapo has become a party of masters and slaves.
* [PAULUS] KAPIA back?! I give up. Namibia is doomed under this current Pohamba Swapo administration. What happened to the promises Your Excellency?
* RETURNING alleged corrupt politicians (Kapia) on MP list is a pure sign that his Excellency (Pohamba) has no power to fight corruption. Mr President where are you leading us?
– Elias
* WHAT? Kapia to go to Parliament after betraying this nation? We lost trust in him. Surely Swapo is there for corruption. If Kapia gets listed as an MP then whoever votes Swapo is the biggest fool of the 21st century. Aren’t there capable Swapo members other than Kapia?
– Shiwana Penduk
* KAPIA must go back home. We don’t need him on the MP line-up because he is corrupt.
– Kaguhona
* CAN Swapo do no better than a failed Avid Director and a suspect in a court case [original comment removed] Kapia as an election candidate?
* YOUR Excellency Mr Pohamba remain assured of my vote, but the party, with the inclusion of Mr Avid Kapia and others must forget my vote.
* I’M tired of seeing parliamentarians discussing nonsense like the latest threat to Swapo. Please come up with useful discussions like subsidising petrol prices.
* WHEN I face the reality I see nothing wrong with the SPYL especially Mr Swartbooi and his speeches. In this world people do not like the truth and that’s why there are so many thorns pointed to you. Thank you for being real Mr Clinton Swartbooi.
* VIVA Clinton Swartbooi true leader, nothing matters to you. You inspire us young people. With showing your true commitment you set free our mothers from being out in the street. We want leaders like you for Parliament. Viva SPYL.
* CLINTON Swartbooi fight for development in the Karas Region rather than the reinstatement of corrupt people like Kapia! You ought to be ashamed of yourself!
* WHEN we talk about real visionary leaders like Clinton Swartbooi, Ngurare and Veiko, they put light into our non-Oshiwambo heart, by diversifying Swapo with different colours. They make great difference and give us a chance to be much committed and united in Swapo. Please lets vote for Clinton, Ngurare and Veiko in Parliament for our voices to be heard.
* WHO is a youth? The SPYL Constitution indicates that the youth age is up to 35 years, can they tell us how old are Kapia, Siyauya, Mushelenga, Ngurare and others. Please learn from Tshuuya.
– LOL
* CORRUPTION is justified by Swapo employing Kapia, Negongo, Munyama, Katrina and many more, so ACC start going after the so-called big names rather than people who drop clutch plates with Government cars!
* WHY is Namibian politics everywhere, like in churches, economy, sports and education, that is why Namibia doesn’t perform well in abovementioned things.
– Andy Engelbrecht
* DR LIBERTINA Amathila oh yes Namibians won’t say no to you for presidency, tate Pohamba, with all due respect, step down.
– Richie Pahee
* KAPENA Ilonga = Kapia & Iilonga.
* WHY are some families, especially in Owambo, hating each other in the name of politics? Other tribes are laughing at us, are we crazy of politics? Namibia is forever free and we must learn to correct each other in a mature manner. Please Vambos come together as one.
– Varry
* THE struggle kids are really selfish. They must remember that they are not the only children that are suffering. In Namibia the unemployment rate is very high. It’s time for them to start doing some things on their own like other Namibians. Until when will they keep up with this behaviour? It seems like you guys are not serious with your life. Because instead of wasting your time striking you must use that time to look for work. You guys must do something with your life before it’s too late. You guys are grown up and remember regret always comes late. Struggle kids you guys must wake up and start smelling the coffee. Put yourself in the shoes of the people who are really suffering.
* FOR Swapo to [allegedly] donate chickens to inhabitants of the northern regions is nothing less than buying votes! Is this how the ruling party tries to avert crumbling support?
– Are you sure this is happening? – News Editor
* SWAPO! Swapo! Swapo! Swapo this! Swapo that! One’s cellphone was grabbed in the street – Swapo! Cattle were stolen from somewhere – Swapo! Municipality fails to render service – Swapo! An increase in H1N1 cases – Swapo! Yakwetu! Let’s put the blame where it is due. I know it is a means of campaigning but oh...!
– Katoma
* WE HAVE become used to the occasional racial slurs of members of the ruling party but usually shrug them off with the contempt they deserve. However what stunned me to the core was having read the transcript of the hate speech of Mr Iilonga: what total utter rubbish.
* IT IS now clear The Namibian is out to fight Swapo, read the SMS of the day (20 August). Gwen Lister, you are anti-Swapo!
– Kondjeni
– Firstly, sorry to disappoint you! Gwen Lister does not choose the SMS Of The Day. Secondly, sorry to disappoint you again, The Namibian is not out to fight Swapo. Thirdly, criticism is not the same as “anti”. In fact it’s becoming boring that when anyone says “boo” , or even “peekaboo”, to Swapo, some people immediately label them as this or as that or the other thing. – News Editor
Election Issues
* PLEASE let us enjoy democracy, it is beautiful. There are those who cannot live with it because they are used to dictatorship. But they made a mistake by subscribing to the system. What now? Even the door-to-door campaign issue, which is being dramatised, is part of democracy. There’s no violence recorded so far as a result of the strategy. I pity those who hate democracy because they have no choice.
* TO SOME of our leaders, the more their followers are ignorant, the more votes they can score. These leaders feel threatened when their followers listen to a different view. Is this really democracy?
* MY understanding of Police responsibility is that they must keep law and order in a neutral way. Not to decide and preach where the political parties should or should not campaign?
– Leni
* IT WAS just advice that it would not be safe for politicians to go door-to-door, it was not a restraining order. Like the majority who put Swapo in power I do not want the opposition near my house, but I have no problem attending their rallies.
* I READ some of the SMSes in the newspaper of August 19 that say to not vote for five more years of hell! This Ref: does this mean we should not go to vote or what? Let people vote, the law must be enforced and punish individuals who steal public funds. Voting is your right. Let people go to vote.
– TTT
* HONOURABLE Pohamba! Imagine the Municipality of Tsumeb cutting off our water because we just did not pay for one month. The funny part is they don’t tend to realise the elections are around the corner. Things like this they take so simple can make you lose votes and every vote counts remember.
* WHO says only Swapo members will vote on the second voting day, opposition leaders stop making noise where it is not needed just for the publicity and think of the electorate.
* CAN the Governor of Hardap, specifically Mariental Urban, please inform us where to register for election cards because till now the majority of residents have nothing, we want to exercise our right!
– Aoxamus
* VOTER education officers from Khomas Region are travelling in a car with no seats & seat belts at the back seats and this is election year, whilst some higher authorities are aware.
The Flu
* WHY not leave Dr Kamwi alone. Panic only helps the drug manufacturers to make even more billions. An estimated 60 million died in the flu epidemic after WW1, How many have died in this one? More die on the roads.
* OUR population is very small and swine flu rises almost daily. I hope we can avoid it if everyone starts wearing a mask. Let’s act before, and see if it helps.
– Leon
– Washing your hands remains VITALLY important. – News Editor
Health
* CAN somebody from the Department of Health please go and inspect the place at WCP where the inmates receive contact visits. It is a real health risk. I shiver to think how it must look on the inside if it looks like that on the outside.
– Concerned Mother
* THE inefficient payment system of GRN has now caused private doctors to demand full payment for services rendered. The member must then claim from the PSEMAS. It will result in serious repercussions should a member or beneficiary fall ill, and you do not have the cash to pay the doctor. GRN medical department get your act together, there are contagious diseases going around.
Richard Kamwi
* HONOURABLE Minister of Health, the community of Omuthiya is having a problem with the clinic at Omuthiya. During the night there are no persons attending those who are seriously sick and those who are bitten by snakes. How can one think of survival from snakebite if they are to be treated at Okatope clinic which is about 50 km away. We need somebody to be on duty during the night. To save lives of the poor people, those who don’t have transport or money to book those who have transport.
Service Please
* MTC it’s a disgrace to black race to see in your advert of LG cellphone a black lady literally licking the earlobe of a white man, it shows racial inferiority. We blacks mostly support you and it’s offensive to us, giving a feeling of prostitution. Why not white lady licking black man? Remove this advert and change it with something else that will not depict one race in a bad light. Wake up. Namibia is independent!
* THE criteria you are using to decide on SMSes to publish and which to censor sucks. I’m gatvol about it!
– Thanks. However hate speech and libel remain no-nos. Would love to know what you think about the ‘Spy Bill’. – News Editor
