* WE definitely need a vibrant and focused alternative political party for our democracy to work, presently it is not a real democracy, so long as the president and parliamentary representatives are chosen by the few, like [Swapo’s Paulus] Kapia.
Food For Thought
* NAMIBIA has such a small population, yet some of its citizens are landless and all the blame is directed at the whites even after 19 years of independence. All these politicians own farms today, who’s fooling who?
* PLEASE! Can the Office of the President answer this question? Have all opposition parties boycotted this year’s Heroes’ Day celebrations or were they not invited? Or does it mean that once Swapo is out of power, there will be no more Heroes’ Day celebrations? Do we mean what we say, when we preach “one Namibia, one nation”? Just trying to be visionary!
– Tulumukweni
* WHY are the Swapo supporters of the informal settlements (e.g. Havana) being so unfair, I mean you can’t wear an RDP shirt in the streets, and if you do they will insult you or even beat you up, please grow up and realise that they can wear whatever they want. I’m also a Swapo fan, but it’s their choice.
– Jerome
* THE habit of spitting from moving cars, and generally spitting in public, must strongly be discouraged as this could spread infection.
Politics
* HON Ben Amadhila is one of the truest leaders Namibia ever had. If those entrusted with leadership in Namibia could have the same mentality I believe they could teach the young generation a lesson or two instead of the power hungry disrespectful SPYL members fighting their leaders who could be their fathers or even grandfathers. They need to appreciate what has been done, this country was not liberated by bigmouth heroes but their actions are what brought freedom to Namibia.
– Freedom fighter
* WHO are you [Evilastus] Kaaronda to say that those who were not at the re-opening of Ai-Ais made a “biggest mistake” and “betrayed the respect of the people of this country” referring to the Founding Father and President Pohamba. You joined Swapo overnight after you had voted against Swapo in 1989. We have accepted you in a united Swapo, then stop that nonsense “Johnny came lately”. I didn’t join Swapo, I was born in Swapo and will remain a Swapo.
– Chuku man
* TO THE person who said on Tuesday that we should let Swapo do whatever suits them, remember that Swapo only runs this country. They don’t own it.
– Ernst
* I DREAD to think what will happen if our national assets are transferred to NWR. Whose assets will they be then? And what will they be used for? The NWR track record so far can only fill the hearts of patriotic Namibians with foreboding. Every day, it seems, more is being taken away from the people and is being used to bankroll the activities of Swapo’s new chosen elite.
* I HAVE always said that Swapo has the opportunity to govern Namibia for at least 50 more years if the party just does the things they promised during the liberation struggle. It amazes me how they constantly shoot themselves in the foot. Kapia, Iilonga, ODC, Avid, etc. What kind of advisors does the party employ. Does the think tank think? Or can’t they change even if they know they have to?
* IT IS an encouraging sign that our top politicians are boycotting the official functions of mismanaged parastatals, NWR in this case. Obviously, more of these bankrupt SOEs must be placed on the banned list.
* Dr Elijah Ngurare [SPYL] is an opportunist. He told the nation at one point that Namibians must speak “Namlish” whereas he doesn’t express himself in the latter. He obtained his doctorate abroad from the “imperialists”, whom does he think he’s fooling? We want our children to speak proper English.
– Matutjiua
* NAMIBIA is the only country that I know of where educated people aren’t running the Government. I’m not surprised by Mr Iilonga’s [Deputy Minister Petrus] comments at all, he and his team mates have proved that they simply can’t deliver, and always play the blame game.
* THE so-called NSHR has totally lost its objectives and vision. Instead of maintaining and protecting all people, now it is full of hidden political biases. Being a Government enemy, hating all Government officials and being all opposition parties’ friend is contradicting.
– Hafeni
* CDE Nora Schimming-Chase and all former RP members join Swapo as Swapo is only the party for all Namibians.
* DEAR fellow Namibians, can you honestly afford to be fooled for almost 20 years now? Swapo Party website is a disgrace to this nation. If you get access to such website, it is all about Mr. Phil ya Nangoloh and Madam Gwen Lister. For how long will Swapo keep on discrediting those who are not of their opinions? Are these not the same people who were writing the notorious Ananias Nghifiteko e-mails discrediting Cde HH? Does this nation really need to know who has funded Mr Ya Nangoloh’s education? Not at all. Otherwise we will also ask who has funded Elijah Ngurare’s education and more clarity on the unmarked graves found by NSHR in Angola last year, September 2008. Please if you got nothing much to tell this nation apart from your contorted stories, just pack and go home. Leave politics for mature people. No more cheap politics.
– Kassian Amesho
Election Issues
* ECN, when will the returning officers, supervisors and registration officers be appointed?
* CAMPAIGNING from door-to-door, shebeen-to-shebeen? Well, you can try it, but just remember one thing, my house/shebeen is a no-go area for all opposition parties. So, don’t disturb me and my family, please.
– Shando shooNuukongo
* DOOR-TO-DOOR campaigning can cause some conflicts. Therefore it should be avoided by all political parties for safety.
* WHY can’t the ruling party allow the opposition parties to use whatever campaign strategy they see fit and all the ruling party need to do is show them what the party is made of. Two-thirds majority matters most. Act now, no sabotaging. Viva elections November 2009, viva.
n NAPWU! If our salaries (clerks) are not aligned as agreed before November 2009, we will not vote.
* NO salary alignment for clerks in GRN, no vote. Please don’t spoil our mood to vote for our mighty Swapo Party.
* NAMIBIA is about freedom! Making or forcing a person to vote would violate freedom. It is your right to vote. It is not a law that mandates you vote. Voting is a right, not a responsibility. Some one will say vote to exercise that right. Then again part of our right is not to choose. Since there is no good choice to vote from, some simply don’t care. Political freedom means the freedom not to participate if you don’t want to.
– Rasta
* WE IN Swapo have the right to urge the nation to vote for us. We are the most popular so far. Join up or accept defeat, for victory is certain.
* POLITICAL parties please leave us students alone, when we were writing the exams the Swapo Party came to our school and tried to convince us to vote for it in the upcoming elections by showing us cassettes on how the Swapo Party struggled for Independence. Even though they tried to cover up that they were not from the Swapo Party their intentions were very clear to us. I now wonder if the Government would have allowed it if it was a different party.
* NAMIBIA needs a president like Dr Libertina Amathila because we need somebody like her who doesn’t just warra-warra but who is doing and also inspiring others with her charm to start doing a good deed.
Bouquets And Brickbats
* BIG thanks to the only young registered nurse at Hakahana clinic. She is always so kind to the patients and treats them with a smile, Keep up the good work sister.
– Ndapandula
* IIPUMBU SSS improve your hostel and staff management, and why are your toilets always dirty? Please improve and change.
* THE service at the Main Post Office here in Windhoek is pathetic. Out of 16 counters, only two are having workers. Now we have to stand in a queue for hours.
Health
* MOHSS is not worried of the shortage of doctors in this country. I thought it was a good idea when young, brilliant, academically proven nurses who are willing to study should be given a chance, but I understand that they must resign as the MOHSS has no provisions for them in their fellowship programme. So, for young nurses, just resign, go study and get into private clinics. When will this ministry learn a thing or two?
* MINISTER Kamwi, Caprivi Hospital is classified as a district hospital meaning patients have to be sent to a regional hospital in Rundu some 500 km away. How long will this situation continue with no surgeons in Caprivi. Katima is too far from Rundu.
* PLEASE MoHSS, do something about the Central Hospital Nurses’ Home. This place I think was meant for students and nurses but it’s now full of cleaners, police, ministry workers, and to make things worse there are lots of children who are vandalising and writing on walls. Student nurses have no places to stay while this accommodation is full of kids. Please take 30 minutes of your time and visit. Hope you also know since this is where you pass every day on your way to work. Please regulate this place, it was 10 times better pre-independence. Bring back those incentives for student nurses or come up with new ones.
Education
* THE Ministry of Education is taking us teachers for fools. They don’t adjust our salary yearly, they just give bonuses to keep our attention away from our yearly salary adjustments. Just imagine a teacher who has taught for 30 years receives exactly the same salary as a newly qualified teacher, how can it be? The Ministry should look into it and solve this problem immediately. All teachers look at your payslips make sure that you are on the correct scale and receive the correct amount. Rectify this problem. We in Otjozondjupa experience this problem. So all the other regions might also have this problem. Let’s unite in education.
* TEACHERS should think twice before hitting a learner. What if the learner could hit back? And parents too, don’t hit your child. Child abuse is love abuse.

– Corporal punishment (that is, beating) is illegal in Namibian schools. – Newsdesk
* IN TERMS of decentralisation, the NQA should deploy evaluation officials to all higher learning institutions.
– Tia, Windhoek
Service Please
* CAN’T the Police arrest parents who stay with kids in bars or just do something because parents who bring or stay with small kids in bars are abusing the kids. And if the Police can’t, then they must come up with a number where we can report these parents.
– P-unit
* NAMIBIAN Consumer Protection, please advise. I had two brand new Bridgestone tyres worth over N$4 000 fitted to my private car by a supplier at Walvis Bay in mid-January 2009. Two trips to Windhoek and one to the North and the tyres are completely worn out. This is no F1 car. What can I do if the supplier is adamant the tyres weren’t faulty? Send your advice to 081 446 9047.
* IT’S sad NBC doesn’t have time to air the most accomplished sport (rugby) in the Land of the Brave. No fixtures before weekends, no results during and after weekends.

* WE ARE concerned about councillors who are not working and developing the village, they are getting allowances and just drinking while the workers of the village council did not get their salaries for two months and they are getting allowances while they did nothing, please let the community of Leonardville open their eyes and look for whom they vote as councillors in the coming elections. Vote wise.
