SMSes Of Friday 21 August 2009

* FELLOW citizens the taxpayers’ money we know so far lost through GIPF, Teko, ODC, AVID, DRC-Kabila and Defence Force stands at N$928 million. According to my thorough research this money could have trained about 3 090 medical doctors to save the lives of us the poor who cannot afford private hospitals. This shows how poor governance and corruption can be a cancer to society. Let us all say no to corrupt leaders. What we need is change.

* I THINK most Namibians are tired of the ‘struggle kids’. There are 500 000 other Namibians struggling now! Why should they be privileged? They must get their heads right, get real and get in the queue!

* NUNW, while I applaud your awakening when it comes to the banks [allegedly] ripping off Namibians, I think you are wrongly playing the infamous “race-card”! It’s not only blacks who suffer. As a white couple with a home loan strangling us each and every month I can honestly tell you that banks don’t care about customers’ skin-colour, they happily rob you regardless of what colour you are!

Food For Thought
* POVERTY eradication remains a challenge for our leaders all around the world, particularly Namibia. They should start asking the poor on how this can be done. Not experts from Europe or elsewhere. There are honest, knowledgeable Namibians in all tribes, and regions that can advise Government. There are those that became poor people’s reps in Government i.e. councillors, governors, and Ministers. Maybe they are there to alleviate themselves from poverty and not the real poor and vulnerable ones?

* OUR Government can build a decent house for every Namibian plus giving everyone one million dollars but no that’s impossible, the Government has no money. The only money Government has is money for self-enrichment. Steal a loaf of bread and go to jail for many years. Steal millions of taxpayers money and get off scot-free, the tsotsis say the most dangerous criminals are in the Parliament and the church, it is true.
– Johnny Claasen

* WHILE we congratulate President Pohamba on his birthday, we need also to reflect on his presidency. We have not seen remarkable changes brought about by his administration. Therefore, the President should put in place solid bold economic measures that would cut down on inflation, cut down on Government expenditure, grow the economy and see the benefits reflect in the pockets of the ordinary man. Moreover, the President should be involved in a hands-on administration and stop acting as a ceremonial president of officially inaugurating office complexes, etc. He should prove to Namibians that he is his own man, in charge at the helm of affairs.

Politics
* WHAT is Swapo Youth League involvement in Teko trio. They were jumping with joy. Elijah explain to the Namibian nation.

* I REALLY want to know why if I send SMS talking about colonial past events whereby the term white people were involved it does not get published in your newspaper? But if the story is of black people it will be exposed and published. Is it not racism? Or is it because the owner is also a white just to protect others’ past history.
– Nghishongwa
– Quite honestly, I have no idea what you are talking about. The Namibian publishes a fair selection of SMSes, without fear or favour. Not only that, we have published criticism of ourselves and of the Editor. And if you were to go back through these pages over the past few months it is clear for all to see. Racism cuts both ways. As has been noted – more than once – it is impossible to publish every SMS (see standard note). Also, we do not place SMSes that indulge in hate speak, as opposed to criticism, or those that are potentially libellous. Most importantly, we do not think in terms of black and white. We think Namibian. – News Editor

* SPEAKING bad about Peter Iilonga is not speaking bad about Swapo. Mind you that the people are Swapo and Swapo are the people that’s what we know. Do you mean Swapo wrote him the speech, if he had one that day of the meeting? Be realistic comrade. When one comrade is wrong you can’t side with him simply because you are comrades.

* I’M A 20-year-old youth. I just want to say that if we, as blacks say we are, wise and independent enough, why do we buy alcohol from the whites? Why do we buy food from the white man’s shop? Why do some blacks take their kids to the white man’s school? Why? Some blacks are just pretenders. Whites make so many things available to us. We are the ones who choose to consume them freely. So Mr Iilonga and followers stop shopping at Pick ‘n Pay or Spar, go buy at the friendly grocer who is a black man.
– Black, young and disappointed Namibian

* THE ODC, GIPF, Avid unaccounted for taxpayers’ money have all been swept under the table. Give the Tekla gift ordeal a year and that too will be ancient history. How convenient.

* PLEASE Madam Ithana tell the nation how far have you got with SSC 30 million case! Is it finalised and closed that [Paulus] Kapia is now back to wave his index finger at the Election College?

* I AM not a born-free and I fail to understand why the so-called ‘struggle kids’ think they are more human than any other Namibian youth. We all should be helped. Namibia does not owe any so-called ‘struggle kid’ anything but it owes the Namibian youth stability.
– Bicky

No free lunch

* IF struggle kids want to get something from Swapo, they should stop singing praise songs and put flags down.

* I FULLY agree with Deputy Minister Shifeta’s sentiments that the struggle kids are selfish. Not only that, but they are spoiled, rude and disrespectful too. Just look how they are threatening the MYNSSC with “will do something you will not like.... We are sick and tired”. One wonders whether there’s a second or a third force behind them.
– Yavulithandje

* THE founding father interviewed by the Oshiwambo radio and I quote him, ‘Namibia is a rich country in terms of economy’. Why he speaks now, he never travelled in Namibia as a whole to see how people are suffering over the past almost 20 years.

* LET us put an age limit on political leadership in Namibia, at least 70 and go for retirement. Give young ones a chance too.

* WHO is Selma Shigweda of the Karas SPYL? Would like to have short history of her political career since it is the first time to hear and read about her. We need to know our leaders in the South.

* KARASBURG vote for transparency, Swapo failed us for 20 years by appointing incompetent town councillors, please vote with confidence.
– Concerned Karasburger

* I DO not understand how opposition political parties can say that if we vote for them they will provide free education and free health. Please let’s be reasonable the resources we have are not enough for such a step. We are satisfied with the policies of Swapo.
– Petrina Angala

* DR LIBERTINA Amathila for next President. Whoever had the honour to meet you will know that you really care for the disadvantaged.
Election Issues
* IN 1989, we were walking house-to-house campaigning as Swapo members but the same political party does not want RDP to do the same.

* THE decree to ban house-to-house campaign of RDP by Police Chief Ndeitunga at instruction of Swapo is illegal and unconstitutional. The Namibian Constitution which is the supreme law of Namibia is clear and even the Electoral Act does allow people to freely campaign at any place any time. How many more unconstitutional laws are you going to make to favour Swapo? We recently had the spy law, now you are preventing others to campaign freely. You will never stop the winds of change.
– Komesho
– Police Chief Ndeitunga has not banned house-to-house campaigns, but has strongly advised against it. All political parties appear to be opposed to excluding door-to-door campaigning. – News Editor

* GENERAL Ndeitunga, your remarks on house-to-house campaigns are a strategy one can use to sideline opposition parties, and are unconstitutional. Let us respect, uphold and defend our constitution.
– Elias

* THE first sign that signals an unfair election has been outlined by the top cop as reported by the newspaper. Cde Ndeitunga you have started too early. What next will Swapo complain for you to implement?

Bouquets And Brickbats
* I AM so disappointed in our artists that have made it big in the industry. I feel like we were just tossed away when they started to be nominated for Channel O. I am happy that they were nominated but that does not mean that they should forget those who have the chance of showing their appreciation in local awards.

* WERNER Menges where did you study journalism? Why did you say Judge Elton Hoff was innocent while he pleaded guilty and was sentenced over drunken driving?
– The reference to the judge as an innocent party in a collision was because he was not at fault in the crash itself, but in subsequent breathalyser testing he was found to be over the legal alcohol limit, and on that he pleaded guilty. – News Editor

* ONCE upon a time The Namibian would alert us on, for example, street names wrongly spelt. On pg. 36, 18 August (Notices), the word ‘Cancelled’ is clearly misspelt as ‘Cancled’. A coincidence? Just thinking aloud. Thanks. – Robert
– Thanks. Noted and passed on. – Newsdesk

* VIVA the banned The Namibian newspaper by GRN (and its corrupt sympathisers) for carrying 20 pages of happy birthday supplements. Who is fooling who?

* THANK you for still telling it like it is, The Namibian team.

* I JUST want to thank LAC, Ministry of Gender, Unicef and CCPA for a nice workshop that took place last week Saturday at Hochland High School regarding the new law for the Namibian children. Thank you for caring. We Namibian children really appreciate the effort and hard work you put in.

* I WAS at a CCPA workshop for children at Hochland High School that was conducted by the LAC, and I must say that it was very important for the children in Namibia. Thank you Ministry of Gender, LAC en Unicef for working so hard for the Namibian children.

* REMEMBER the biker who was shot at Okahandja on Thursday? Well, the Police got the bandits. Excellent, very good job. Just to prove that Namibian Police are here to do their job.

* GIVE credit where credit is due. Let us all applaud the mayor of Okakarara for bringing much needed development and for putting Swapo at the forefront in Okakarara.
– TK

* NAMPOL Rehoboth, we the residents of Rehoboth are very proud of the job done by the Police past four weeks to show the criminals they are not welcome in the town of Rehoboth. Job well done officers.
– Richter

* I LIKE to say this to Ministers, they mean a lot to the whole nation, Minister Richard Kamwi keep up the good work you mean a lot for the health of this country, we pray for you, Minister John Mutorwa is the other one. May God bless you.

The Flu

Don’t panic!

* I REALLY don’t understand the Minister of Health, Dr Kamwi. He keeps on saying people must not panic about swine flu, but the number keeps on increasing. Please, don’t go the wrong way as you did with HIV-AIDS. The Government didn’t put a lot of effort from the beginning. Please be serious this time.
– Yes, the Minister is saying we should not panic, while the Health Ministry is doing all it can to detect and treat suspected cases. All indications are that the Minister and his officials are serious about the issue. In the meantime, we should be vigilant and take precautions. Panic is not a constructive option.
– Newsdesk

* DR KAMWI! I thank you for all that is being done with swine flu cases, but dear Doctor, what plans do you have for the De Beers Marine employees? Don’t you think they should get attended to before they return home? Please see if you can send a team to test those people, because some might be infected.
– Namibian Daughter

* THE first case of swine flu was imported by a school kid that was in South Africa for sports. Can’t the ministry stop children from going abroad, for now.
– Rudi

* MINISTRYT of Health. When a school learner is being tested for H1N1, what measurements must schools take? When school has a positive case, what measurements must be taken then?

* ONGWEDIVA Trade Fair versus H1N1. Health Minister, will there be face masks at the entrance? Even just for sale. This is where it could hit the most. Please do something. We’re scared to go there.
– Please remember that while face masks do help, the washing of hands remains vitally important. – News Editor

* I THINK some Namibians are becoming “brainless skulls”! What is this person really up to when he/she suggests the suspension for Dr Kamwi because of the increase of H1N1 cases? Is this not tantamount to chasing your own father out of the house if drought occurs? Shame on you!
– Katoma, Outapi

* I THINK the MoHSS should clearly let the public know where to go for the test for swine flu, it is now overwhelming all doctors. Establish a Crisis Centre for people to go to.

* H1N1 is a virus and as such cannot be controlled! Please print this in bold letters so that people can understand. If all of us can just try to do our part of observing the prevention measures!

In And From The Regions
* I WOULD like to know for how long one needs to wait for the water to start running, please whoever is dealing with the payments of water at Onankali. We have been going there since October last year but until now we are being told to wait, we want water to be opened at our house because the wells are very far.
– B

* WHAT is wrong with Kalkrand village when it comes to radio and TV network. Is there really nothing to be done? Please NBC do something before the commencement of election campaigns.

* CENORED at Khorixas & Kamanjab. Please guys, make some changes because your electricity infrastructure is very old, look at street lights, poles and other connections, things are not up to standard level, look at the company properties (vehicles) they are not in a good condition, does that company control and manage their properties? Please we need change from now on.

* I HONESTLY don’t understand why the Tsumeb municipality decided unexpectedly to charge extremely high interests even on the poorest residents of Tsumeb. If residents are already struggling to settle debts they owe to the municipality, then are you not making the situation worse? Just note that you don’t expect angry and frustrated residents to make time to reach polling stations in November, what’s the use? I am therefore appealing to the Tsumeb Mayor and the Honourable Councillor to reverse such an inconsiderate, less informed decision.

* COUNCILLOR of Okatana Constituency in Oshana Region. We need water in Ombwelefuma village. It is long enough we have been waiting.
– Dhiladhileninawa

* TO THE councillor of Okatana constituency: we need electricity at the villages of Okaku and Ompumbu please.

* THE Grootfontein municipality is charging the highest for electricity in the whole Namibia. If one buys electricity for N$100, he or she only takes from their database? Something fishy is going on. Mr director please explain to us.
– Moloi

* WHY should Areva and other new mines in Erongo Region advertise their positions through the recruitment agency that gives only the e-mail address? It is not fair because not every Namibian has access to the Internet. It is fair when one applies directly to the company rather than through the second party.

* I’M a concerned resident of Okahandja requesting the municipality of Okahandja whether you can assist us to put up a light specifically at the north side of Aurora primary school as well as at south side of cemetery on Herero location entrance. We cannot move freely during the night even I lost my phone after I was attacked by people in the dark.

* HOW do we people from the South expect to get jobs in the North if we don’t apply for vacancies and believe the best we can do is be in the south.
– Open-minded southerner

* PLEASE Ohangwena Region Police, you tell the people to close the bars on Sundays from 14h30 but at Ohangwena, Okatope, Onhuno the bars are not closed why not?

* IF more than half the nation lives in the North should the North not have its own newspaper ...
– One Namibia! One Nation! – News Editor

Investigate Please
* ACC please come and investigate the reported cases at Otavi Village Council before offices are burned again.

* ON 18.08.09. from 19h00 up to 20h45, vehicles registration GRN 2140 and GRN 80730 were parked at Swapo meeting at Omaruru. The meeting was addressed by Erongo Regional Governor. Is this not pure corruption? Mayor of Omaruru and Erongo Governor must be brought before Anti-Corruption Commission.
– It seems there are some cases in which senior officials are allowed to use their GRN vehicles outside of official business –  if they apply for and get the necessary permission. Whether this was the case here is not known. Nonetheless, there appears to be an inordinate number of cases where GRN vehicles are used as ‘personal property’. – News Editor
