Smses For Thurs 27 Aug 2009

Please note Regrettably, the MTC server, which is the channel for The Namibian’s ‘Have Your Say’ service, was down yesterday. As a result we have been unable to access the latest messages.

Health
* WHAT’S your take on HIV? I believe everyone of us must stop judging or pointing fingers at those of us living with HIV. It is important to go for an HIV test. People must stop being ignorant because HIV infects us every day. We lose our family, friends because of HIV. Every person is responsible for his own life. You must love yourself and respect your partner and be honest. This is a wake-up call. We should feel it is compulsory to know our HIV status.
– Bernhard Kamatoto

* THE 2009 SADC Games are being held in Zimbabwe over the next 10 days. By its very nature, sport is the source of many types of personal injuries. Zimbabwe suffers a dearth of medical facilities; and of course the ever-present cholera and now swine flu. Namibian participants have not been instructed to obtain cholera and other relevant travel immunisation. It is all being swept under the carpet for the sake of political expediency just for [President Robert] Mugabe to lord over it all, at the expense of the region’s sports children? Time will no doubt tragically tell. It stinks!

* MINISTRY of Health and Nursing Council of Namibia, we as enrolled nurses failed totally to recognise your further development when it comes to in-service staff training, short courses, further studies, promotions. These are all in favour of registered nurses, why is it like that? Just imagine if it were you being humiliated like this, how would you feel?
– Concerned uncle

Nurses

More nurses needed

* TO THE Ministry of Health as well as GRN of Namibia. Could the Ministry of Health try and train grade 12 and grade 10s as nurses due to the fact that public hospitals are running out of staff and it will create jobs for the youth.
– Namukwayu

* THE solution to the issue of baby dumping is free but compulsory DNA tests.
– TIA-Windhoek

Education
* WAAPANDULA primary school at Omuthiya. All teachers you all look smart in your uniforms. Keep it up! To all schools, take an example.

* WHEN will it happen to us? The principal of Omukondo CS do something about your school. No electricity, computers. This is really bothering us and we need grade 10 at school like other schools. How many years have we celebrated the independence of this country? At least 19 but it still the same at this school like it was in colonial times. We are tired of this situation!
– Inakusha

* I HAVE observed for a long time now how teachers come late at Khomas high school and nothing happens but when learners are late then they are punished.

Service Please
* THE road via D2612 turn-off from Khorixas and Uis main road to Twyfelfontein is very bad and is one of the gravel roads used by people who are increasing our economic growth through tourism. Please Roads Authority double check roads around Twyfelfontein area.
– Kleofas

More expensive?

* OK shops at Karibib, Usakos and Uis are they a chain of the one in Windhoek? If so why are the prices so high? In Uis the shop in the location is more expensive than the one in town! I am disappointed.

* THE “happy” hour offered by MTC’s 3G (Between 01h00 and 05h00) is thoroughly useless to most of us as we are asleep by then. How about one happy hour during waking hours to make us happy?

* MULTICHOICE, on your call centre customer service: please up the ante! Take it seriously.

Tower needed

* PLEASE MTC, we need a tower for connection at Ongulumbashe we are struggling with network, please electricity is available.

General

Will they be ready?

* THE NFA president John Muinjo says neighbours Angola will be ready to host African Nations Cup! When was he there to see for himself? I am a regular visitor to Angola, construction on some hotels has come to a standstill and there are the roads which will never be finished on time. The most important question of all is will all the stadiums be ready? Don’t buy face with Angolan soccer authorities, tell things as they really are!

* I WANT to know why the NYS at Rietfontein is keeping the NDF instructors for second intake, our husbands never visit home, and they have responsibilities at home. Please head of the centre or the Ministry of Defence do something.
– Concerned wife

* I HAVE a serious question to ask: why on earth is prostitution illegal in Namibia? I mean if I am a grown person decides to pay for sex it’s my body and my money. Why should we run and hide like small kids, please legalise prostitution in Namibia.

* THIS advert on the new LG cellphone licking of ear, what’s that MTC promoting to the kids who watch NBC. That’s too extreme.

* THIS IS a wake-up call to the NRU. SARU is campaigning to host the Rugby World Cup in 2015. NRU should negotiate with SARU so that we could co-host this prestigious event. We have the capacity to host at least one group game. We still have plenty of time to prepare for this event.
– Rugby mad

* IF THE GRN tax stands at 15% or 17%, how come someone is being deducted tax far exceeding even the quarter or half of the amount being deducted? Let’s be realistic Namibians.

Leave MJ alone

* PLEASE, I beg you, let MJ rest in peace, if he can. I wasn’t consoled at all by the rubbish you printed if he has been cloned (God help us). Will he be black or white?
– I’m not sure what you’re referring to on the cloning! But I agree that Michael Jackson should be allowed to rest in peace. However, I doubt that that is going to happen. – News Editor

* SOMEONE commented on job adverts. My suggestion would be put them all at the back under the classifieds. And sort them by category: commerce, environment etc. In everyday life we have to filter info constantly. It would help if you did some of that for us.

* WILL people acknowledge when somebody is giving her life for her community. Clara Baitsewe we salute you. We hope you will be our next councillor.

* YOU would think that Nabta would spend their energy on disciplining their members’ driving skills before orchestrating such a circus about fixing a taxi sign to the car roof. The local taxi industry is an embarrassment to Namibia.

Labour Issues
* UNFAIR labour practices in the Environment Ministry. Napwu, did you know that some staff in this ministry have not received the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 general salary hikes citing that they have reached their ceilings. This is serious and might drag up to election day. In addition, we pay a monthly union fee. We have endured this for a year now. Action is up next if no intervention from union and Ombudsman’s offices.
