SMS Of Thursday 6 August 2009

* YOUNG people in Namibia do not vote because they do not fully comprehend the terms: voting, democracy, the importance of casting their votes. Educate us so that we can all live with the choices we made and not blame others. – Bee

Food For Thought
* BRING them home. Children who run away from home are more likely to become involved in crime. The longer a child remains on the streets, the deeper they are sucked into that dark world of violence and abuse. Let’s do more to bring our children home and reunite families.
– Linyanti u Munzi u Mukulu

* PEOPLE, when you withdraw large amounts of money, please arrange for a security guard. Also learn to read the streets. Our inability to be more observant aids criminals to target you. Please wake up from your sleep.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* HON (Richard) Kamwi thanks for attempting to save lives with ARVs. Thanks that the Namibian Government is trying to cut tax on basic commodities! My question is when are you reducing the price of formula 1 and 2 to make it affordable to poor single young Namibian women?
– Taliiko!

* NBC how do you think we can watch and listen to Talk of the Nation, ‘Open Line’ and ‘Omayele Koshigwana’ at the same time? I do not understand this. Please do something about this or do you want people to have two radios, one in the this hand listening to Open Line and one in the other hand listening to ‘Omayele Koshigwana’, while the eyes are watching ‘Talk of the Nation’? Can you do that?

* I APPLAUD the unity that opposition parties are exhibiting. The communiqué issued was fair and realistic. Namibians want to hear what the Government has to say.

* I’M very happy to see Telecom Namibia advertising their products like they have been doing over the last two to three weeks! Being the only fixed-line operator, it’s long overdue. I almost thought they gave up the chase!
– Lite Rite

All donations most welcome

* FYSAL Fresh Products Ondangwa, thanks for donating items to Uuhahe PS for Entrepreneur Day held at Epembe over the weekend. Your contribution really made a difference. Keep it up.
– Gerson

* I WOULD like to ask whether the daily Ndeshi and Jakes cartoon actually adds value to the reputable paper. It has become an eyesore with its constant jokes on drinking and domestic disunity.

* TO Gwen Lister, I read your thoughts on a publicly televised debate nearer to the elections. I admire and embrace such ideas. Thank you and keep up the good work. This world, more than ever, needs thoughtful people like you. Fear no foes. Tell us the untold. I have never made a political comment in my life, but you’ve awakened my spirit too. Truly, politicians are not prophets or preachers. What is unity and stability if you can’t even define your portfolio and walk the test? Our rulers should spell out the risks involved in developing this fertile country or any road would take us there. Even that means going there forever.
– Ndjunga SM

Messages Of Condolence
* TSAMASEB family, may the Almighty be with you through this difficult time from the Kuhlmann family Keetmanshoop.

* TO the Roman Catholic Church and to Rev Nordkamp’s family, I would like to register our sympathy for the loss of a freedom fighter, who was with us yesterday. He allowed the Swapo Windhoek branch unlimited access to the church to use for our meetings and strategies. Let his soul rest in peace.
– EG Kaiyamo on behalf of Katutura East Swapo Party

Politics
* CAN you please advise us the on website of the new political party RDP, please.
– Lunduluka
– The address is www.rdp.org.na – Newsdesk

* I’M a young Namibian and please allow me space in your respected newspaper to air my views and educate the nation at large about criticism. Countless times I’ve patiently listened to poisonous so-called facts among the nation, especially those that are not apolitical. Please it’s high time that we understand the difference between constructive and destructive criticism. We need to learn how to interpret criticism. Is it positive criticism to build us up or negative to tear us down? And one more thing before we speak out, please let us set our facts right and clear. We sometimes tend to mislead the nation with unproductive contributions and that does not make any sense at all. Thumbs up for the ruling party. The Namibian keep telling it like it is.
– Klau Shimwetheleni

* WHAT is the difference between being oppressed by a democratically elected government and an apartheid government? I am referring to the group of people who were locked up over land last weekend.
– From what has been reported, the nature of their grievances aside, they were arrested for ignoring a court order. – News Editor

Running The Show
* WE have really had more than enough of politicking from the Minister of Veterans’ Affairs. How long does it take for his Ministry to deliver? He can afford to take his time because he is on a ministerial salary without delivering while the poor war veterans are desperately waiting.  How long?
– El Vaquerito

* HOME Affairs please replace those older people with young, vibrant, active, hardworking and punctual public servants. Does the Government think about how much money it can save just by improving its leadership. Please, Nam GRN, do something with Home Affairs.

Taxi Talk

The ongoing taxi saga

* I’M enjoying the taxi saga immensely! You can bet your bottom dollar that those taxi drivers who are protesting the implementation of the new rules are also the ones involved in the taxi-related crimes! Simple fact is that there are too many taxis and they are out of control. Viva the new regulations! The sooner the better.
– Theo

* I DON’T know what is so difficult to solve about the taxi issue? If the top structure understand Act 74/77 they could have solved this issue. Just a pity the wrong persons are in certain positions. It will take them another 10 years and then I believe they are going to change the Road Transport Act.

City Fathers Please ...
* DEAR City Police without any further ado, pull off taxis that have not bolted signs on the roof of their cars. We have had enough of taxi-related crime

* WINDHOEK please encourage vendors at the Soweto Market, especially from Tuesday to Friday, to pick up their waste and not to urinate everywhere in public.

* BARS and clubs in Namibia are not asking for IDs and when you enter, you see a lot of underage people inside. Please do something.

In And From The Regions
* WHY is the Government doing this to me? My mom is a San speaker, she is a farmworker at one of the farms in Otjozondjupa Region and she really wants to build her house at one of the farms that the Government is offering to the San nation. And now she is not allowed to settle. Apparently the farm is fully occupied, which is not true. Why are they doing like that? We need a place to stay please Dr (Libertina) Amathila and the State House members. Just a roof. For how long will she be working at the farm!

* I STAY in Otavi. I would like to know from our village councillors when you  are going to clean our town. It is very dirty and the streets are also in poor condition.

* ONGWEDIVA Town council is charging too much for rates. The garbage is not picked up in days. If you cut branches from a tree they will stay for a month without being collected. Why doesn’t Ongwediva put up litter bins around the town. I believe it will make the town cleaner.
– Concerned resident

* THERE a big problem with the trade fair starting during schoolchildren’s exams. I think they must change the day. Children will be taking themselves from school and home and going to the trade fair. If the Oshana children achieve their goals, it is for their future.
– Abby from college

* WHAT’S wrong with the Keetmanshoop Municipality? I applied for an erf in 2005 and they approved it and give as the erf number. But four weeks back they send us letters that stated they didn’t service the erven and that we must reapply for erven.

* I’M a very concerned trainee at Kai /Ganaxab Youth Skills Training Centre situated 12 km outside Mariental. I know it’s nearly year-end but still we would like the Ministry of Youth to answer this. Why do you have to put a youth centre far away from town if you know you can’t provide transport for us? We are tired of walking all these 12 km.

* PLEASE Mr KFC help us we need your service at Katima Mulilo.
– Linyanti u Munzi u Mukulu

Education
* PLEASE the Rector and the Vice Rector of Ongwediva College must make sure they release our transcripts (academic records) before the end of this term, August 21. The circular is already out and we want to apply for our desired posts. Do not repeat the same mistake as you did with last year’s students, who were left out in early interviews because of that same reason.
– Conscientious final year Student

* THE CEO of NIMT, we need better accommodation at NIMT Northern Campus, Tsumeb.

* PLEASE Unam authorities we, some of the students, are begging for economics to be offered part time or distance. Thanks.

* MINISTRY of Education, I know you have your own internal policies of allocating teachers to newly built schools, but please take other factors into consideration. I am a qualified teacher with 16 years’ teaching experience. Each time I apply at this project school in Rocky Crest, I am told the ministry has already sent enough teachers. It is so painful because my house is just across the street and I have to drive to Katutura every day to do the same job. Please do something.
