SMS Of Monday 31 August 2009

* I’M one sick and tired youth of Namibia. This country and its wealth belong to politicians only. We, the youth, seem not to exist in the eyes of the Government. Most of us don’t have jobs or else it’s a question of what is your father or mother’s name and it’s unfortunate for those who lost their parents during the struggle. Most of the young ones don’t have school and those who do are failing badly as a result of an unhealthy education system. There are no practical institutes at least for some of us who didn’t have a chance to go to school. What has become of us “thieves and prostitutes” is unbearable and undesirable. We the youth are 60 per cent of this land no matter what the colour or race and only we can change this land according to what we want. We want education for every youth as more schools and educated teachers and more practical institutes. Youth please wake up, let’s do something. So let elections be in our favour. Anyone with me?

* THE big worry in the minds of Namibian youth at secondary schools, colleges and tertiary institutions or even at every street corner of our country is: in the next five years to come, can Namibia afford the humiliation under the current disordered rule that oversees national wealth being stolen at the rate of millions to billions?

Food For Thought
* IT IS high time for both the Government and the opposition, the media and civil society to protect and to extend the freedoms that we all enjoy. The big majorities do not confer a monopoly of either wisdom or patriotism. We all love Namibia.
– Kamati

* DR Tobie Aupindi let us stop the talk and walk the walk sir. Bring us the financial statements of the NWR for the past two financial years sir. Nothing more, nothing less. Publish it. We are qualified people and very able and willing to judge your turnaround policy.

Politics

No puppet

* AT Omugulugwombashe President Pohamba said he is opposed to those who accuse him of being a puppet, and said that [Founding Father Sam] Nujoma is his leader, a progressive leader. If there are people out there who think that he is puppet then he is a progressive puppet. There you go, he has finally admitted it. A puppet is a puppet!
– The President’s statement was nuanced. He did not “admit” that he is a “puppet”. What he said is that if you want to infer that he is a puppet, THEN he is a “progressive puppet”. – News Editor

* IT IS a blow in the faces of our ancestors who died during the war between Namibians and German troops when it is stated that the liberation struggle started on August 26. That was a genocide. Are you denying that the other ethnic groups sacrificed their lives? That selective memory of the past already resulted in an entitlement attitude as liberators. If we demand a more inclusive presentation of historical facts we are labelled as reactionaries. All we need is respect for the truth and recognition of our forefathers’ role in fighting colonialism during different periods.

* NOT all war veterans are getting recognition. What about those who were not at Omugulugwombashe and those who were not at Cuito Cuanival. The same people are rewarded every year.
– Gunsmoke

* BIASED reporting: RP is engaged in a leadership feud/tussle. Henk Mudge is the leader. It is not front-page news. Anything about comrade K Hanse-Himarwa is front-page news, she is just one of the leaders.

* SWAPO is going through the darkest moments ever in its existence as the situation of animosity is boiling more from within rather than from outside. Yet this does not even take us back to the drawing board to strategise and come forth with capable leadership that would take us through troubled waters. For example, take a look at the type and quality of those who have been elected to represent the regions at the electoral college to be eligible for the coming elections, especially from the Karas Region.
* VIVA RP President. Your leadership style is applaudible. Keep up Mr Mudge. Job well done. Those who resigned, see if you will find other parties, but I doubt it. Ask the ones who left the same way as you. Stop making noise in the papers and find something else to do. I am surely going to join RP.

* WHY on earth is Swapo so reluctant to discipline its members in Caprivi?

* PLEASE Namibians, read the SMS page in The Namibian newspaper and see how brainwashed Swapo supporters are either responding or commenting, and so forth. They are tired. So enough is enough!
– Viljo

* NAMIBIAN youth who were born in Namibia, you are dumped in the street and GRN registers only Swapo kids. Oshili nawa.

Election Issues

Issues piling up

* SWAPO should have realised by now that gone are the days that we used to elect members into leadership positions using loyalty as the basic principle. We ought to be guided by qualities such as experience, not necessarily as a party member but with regard to political mentorship, competence and potential and the ability to initiate socio-economic development interventions.

* THE claim that the current GRN brought development that’s why we’ve to vote for Swapo is not enough reason. Even the former GRN brought development. Any GRN will do a little to be continually voted for. We want more than just that.

* THESE leaders of ours will never understand when you tell them that people are living with no jobs and forget that we are the ones who brought them to power. Please youth consider the facts when you go to vote!
– Remmix Epson

* PLEASE mayor of Otjiwarongo do something for us who are staying in Ombili location, we want electricity. It has been four years that we don’t have electricity, all the other locations have electricity besides Ombili. We don’t even have light, it’s always dark at night but then you want us to go and vote while you don’t do us any good. Please start being fair to all people. Please give us electricity at least by next year we should have electricity.
– Concerned location resident

* THE President opens the Ongwediva Trade Fair. NBC-TV is broadcasting live. Trade and Industry is having an open-day. All ministers and diplomatic corps in attendance, but none of them will attend the Keetmanshoop Agricultural Show. Mark my words. Come elections they will come to the South for votes.

* TO BE a Namibian is my birthright. Not by casting a vote or agreeing with a politician. Born free.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* DEAR The Namibian – Still telling it like it is! Can we also use a paper and a pen to express our views on top of the privilege we have of sending SMSes to you?
– Edgar
Absolutely! We also have letters pages every Friday. – News Editor

* THANKS for ‘Chasing the Dots’ ... surely the intellectually bankrupt chase the dots and blind political loyalists are plonkers. What a pity for Namibian politics!

* NDESHI and Jakes cartoon on Thursday – well done. That’s a great and meaningful cartoon.

* THANKS to entire management and staff of NBC for a job well done. I think that is how August 26 should be celebrated, especially on national television.

* THANKS to Wilfred at one of the Pick ‘n Pay checkout points, who was on duty to lend a hand with the packing, etc, on Friday. Helpful, cheerful and a great smile.

THE Namibian team, why was your paper late again on August 27? You now have your own press, right? Is it poor productivity?
* No, we don’t have our own printing press, we print at (John Meinert) Newsprint. All the newspapers printed there were late on the day in question. – Newsdesk

* THE male voice sitting at NBC’s switchboard, thank you very much for your kind service. Keep up my man!
– JT

Health
* I’M sick and tired of Khomasdal Clinic staff members, they are always punishing the patients. They always go for lunch at 12h00 to 14h00. Is that a new system in their ministry? We want to know more about that. They must change their time from 13h00 to 14h00.

* I GAVE birth with closed legs at Katutura Hospital and my baby’s head and face is uneven now. I was told it’s normal and the nurse told me to push while she knew it is wrong. I regret giving birth in Katutura Hospital.

Education
* SINCE 2007 new teachers are appointed with higher salaries than those already teaching. At that time Personnel Office said it was a mistake which they will correct. They still have not! Teachers, why do you keep on suffering, struggling? Have courage, do something!

Results on time

* PLEASE teachers make sure we get our children’s results on time. This happened for the second time.

Service Please
* PERSONNEL office in the Ministry of Health at Outapi and GIPF Oshakati branch, how can someone put in a claim for two and a half years now and nothing is done, please give us the service we deserve!

* PLEASE can the Minister of Safety and Security come and investigate the situation of inmates at the Ohangwena Police cells. They are suffering. The officers are not serious with their job.
– Mhanda Banchwan

* BANK Windhoek (opposite Namdeb) please make sure that your customers leave your bank happy.
* WHEN are we going to be employed especially us graduates from Polytech, Agricultural management? The Ministry of Agriculture is refusing us. Please Ministry of Labour do something for poor graduates.

From The Regions
* TO comrade Kankoshi, please we want electricity at Ondunge Engoyi village, we want to build our business there. Please do something.
– Sargio Mutumbulwa

* EENHANA Rural water your service is too slow, we applied for water a long time ago for Ongenga constituency. Please guys make some changes, we are thirsty.

General
* IN response to the front-page photo caption in The Namibian newspaper dated August 24 2009. I would like to make a correction that traditional dresses are not only for married women. Any woman, irrespective of marital status or age, can wear that dress.
– Thank you. – News Editor

* WHAT is the aim of MUN? Are you not supposed to protect workers, but you are just fighting for our money and your own benefit.

* I REALLY want to respond to the person who said “legalise prostitution”. Even if you are grown and can make your own decisions, it’s not about you. It just shows how much you are self-centred, immature and perverted. Some are forced to be prostitutes by people running brothels or child traffickers. So illegalising prostitution minimises trafficking and abuse.

* WHILST most Namibians respectfully celebrated Heroes’ Day, the Belgian-owned Zenso Lounge in the Guttenberg Platz hosted a Brazilian party with ear-splitting music. Shame on you and your guests!
– Patriot
