SMSes for Friday 28 Nov 08

* NAMIBIANS feel ashamed to buy condoms but do not feel ashamed to buy cigarettes and alcohol. Having sex is a natural act whereas smoking and abusing alcohol are not. The first of December is World AIDS Day. Let’s commemorate it by taking care of ourselves, caring and showing understanding to those infected and affected. Let’s remove the discrimination and the gossiping. HIV-AIDS is an illness that comes in one of the most natural ways, nobody asks or looks for it.

Food For Thought

* TODAY [Wednesday] at the launch of NDP3 I received a Vision 2030 bumper sticker that reads ‘prosperity, peace, harmony and political stability’. Can I in confidence and solidarity with the Namibian Government display it when the ruling party’s followers are reported to perpetrate political violence even against our own Police without condemnation by the party’s leaders?

Sincere Condolences

* I WOULD like to offer my sincere condolences to our founding President and all his family on the death of his mother. May God comfort you and give you an easy mourning period in Jesus’ name.

Miina

* I CAN confidently say that here lies a woman, mission accomplished. The baton has been passed on to us, especially our women, to emulate the example of this strong woman, and nurture the fruits of her hard work with absolute dedication for a peaceful and prosperous Namibia. RIP Kuku.

* WITH deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, HE Cde Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, on the passing away of his mother Cde Kuku Gwakondombolo. Comrade, we wish you strength and courage during this time of sorrow. May the soul of Cde Kuku Gwakondombolo rest in eternal peace.

– U2, Ongwediva

Politics

* OMUSATI: The Prime Minister’s remark is not impartial, and that’s where it falls short of credibility. It goes to show he has a biased observation of the Constitution by trying to judge and justify the escapades at Outapi. The incident was criminal, no need for excuses. The root of all these immaturity-displaying political games is to be found in Swapo. The leadership has failed to impart a sense of mature politicking to its membership. In fact the leadership sowed these bad seeds. It is not right and sensible to call any political opponent names, Judas, etc. The followers will do something worse, as irrational as some tend to be. I expect the Police to arrest the suspects immediately.

NN

* VICTIMS of history shall triumph over their ill-fated past. Swapo, let’s take note of this.

* PLEASE Hon (Jesaya) Nyamu of RDP, His Excellency Comrade Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma is mourning his mother, please leave him in peace. Stop making unfounded allegations.

– Concerned Namibian

* POLICE Regional Commander of Omusati Mr Shindinge can you please tell us when you will arrest the lawless Swapo kingpins who caused havoc at Outapi? Please show this nation the full mandate of the Police force otherwise we will lose confidence in you. Other regions managed peaceful rallies, why only yours?

* SWAPO and RDP please stop fighting each other. You are brothers and sisters. We want peace in Namibia. You are confused and threatening the nation.

* WHY are Swapo leaders fooling their followers? Telling them to fight against their brothers and sisters from another political parties. And you Swapo people open your eyes. If you put Jesaya Nyamu to sit next to Jerry Ekandjo they won’t fight. Ask yourselves, Swapo supporters, the question why won’t they fight whilst you the followers are fighting?

* MR President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba your people are calling on you to do something about the political parties’ violence in Namibia. How much longer can you bow your head and pretend not to hear? Would you ever listen? I am 95 per cent convinced that you would not. My conclusion is based on your statement at the United Nations calling for the sanctions on Zimbabwe to be lifted.

Ndeuyakwasha

* GOOD statement from Deputy Commissioner [Hophni] Hamufungu. The question is how many were arrested so far and when are they appearing before a court of law? Otherwise it makes no sense.

* I CAN see and understand that most of the people you are trying your best to send the positive message of democracy through SMSes across the country. However, it is a pity the actual people (masses) who disrupt democracy are not reached by the SMSes, although some leaders are fully aware that they are doing is wrong.

* ARE there no hotels or lodges in Ongwediva or Oshakati for RDP to hold meetings? Shame on them!

* CAN the NSHR Director please focus on the poor people who are getting evicted from their houses unfairly and leave the Swapo-RDP issue to the right people we rightfully and democratically elected.

Zondy

* THE recent political developments at Outapi and in Windhoek are a clear indication of the level of thinking of our people. I suggest the Electoral Commission start educating our people about democracy, the Constitution etc. This can be done through NBC radio, otherwise things may turn worse.

– Ex Combatant

Zimbabwe

* ZIMBABWEAN President (Robert Mugabe) must become serious and get out of the selfish cocoon to attend with passion to his nation and not expect to be bailed out by SA and the international community. Cholera is taking the innocent lives of ordinary citizens while they at the top are taken care of. The African Union should take a stand and get involved now! We are watching with keen interest.

John

* IF I understand politics, Ben Ulenga is a Namibian lawmaker paid by the State with money from taxpayers, some of whom are his relatives and friends. But again the NBC Oshiwambo radio, also funded by the State, is playing Ndilimani songs that are discrediting him. Maybe he must protest in Parliament?

Bouquets And Brickbats

* IT comes as a surprise that we are ranked as the second most child-friendly government on the African continent. That’s sad, considering that Government fails to educate our youth efficiently, so that they can stand on their own two feet when it comes to self-sustainability later in adulthood.

* CONGRATULATIONS to the Polytechnic of Namibia for introducing the mining engineering course! As an employee in the mining industry knowing the situation on the ground, I hope this will be break the chain of monopolistic practice caused by the structured demand for that skill.

* NBC, we like the new look but why air soccer matches on week nights? You have managed to negotiate to air live soccer matches but why not negotiate for better movies?

Financial Fallout

* OLD Mutual should not propagate the failed Bush economic policy here. Nam GRN doesn’t need “contingency plans” to bail out the “independent” private sector. Since when do they need GRN money? Tell insurance holders the truth, i.e. how pension funds are affected by US-EU financial crisis. Many believe the system has collapsed and Namibia (Africa) needs a new economic system based on democracy, social justice and equity. The GRN needs to avail more pro-poor measures to mitigate against the high costs of living and the lack of proper housing for every family. My advice is marry a democratic state, social welfare and capitalism with a human face.

* BRENT crude oil is sold at N$48,71 per barrel. How about letting the consumer benefit from this? Especially during the festive season.

* WHY are the mines closing down only because the copper price is low. It will pick up exactly the same as fuel prices. The Government should step in and assist our mining industry instead of spending money on nonsense! Agriculture and mining is part of our country, part of us. It is the only occupation most of us have! Please, please do not allow mines to close. You want to see unemployment and crime! Don’t leave us jobless! Government help us!

General

* ACC please check the Oshikoto Regional Council where there is [allegedly] more than N$80 000 missing for the 2008-2009 financial year.

* MARRIED men should stop cheating on their wives, I’m strictly referring to the headmaster of a Kunene Region high school.

Ndaloloka

* WITH all the negative hype around politics the nation is rapidly forgetting how good it feels to just laugh and be happy, that is why I am appealing to the Editor to provide those of us who enjoy the lighter side of life with a joke [funny] column.

– Alton Tsowaseb

Thanks Alton! I agree – it’s not only good to laugh and to be happy, but it actually holds health benefits. We’ll see what we can do. – News Editor

* OAMITES Military Base which is situated about 54 km south of Windhoek and about 33 km to Rehoboth is turning into a farm for some individual members, with about 2 000 privately-owned goats and sheep plus around 60 cattle. All livestock move all over freely and use water without paying a cent. Cattle are scattered and sleep anywhere in the premises. About three herdsmen are also accommodated in the said base, using water, power and food, still free of charge. Please the relevant authority, your immediate action is needed to protect the interests of the state. We are also really tired of being accommodated with livestock.

– Concerned member

* THANK you for bringing up this issue of Zimbabweans being charged by certain immigration officials for extensions. However be advised that there are a lot of people pretending to be immigration officials and some others home affairs officials. So expose them by names through ACC.  Otherwise don’t allow it to happen, rather report it.

Seals And Surfers

* THOSE fools must learn to respect the seals at their breeding zone, they must stop those stupid activities at Cape Cross.

In And From The Regions

* THE Ministry of Works and Transport should inform the users of the Okalongo-Oshikuku road how long it take to tar the road if we are at the end of the year but nothing indicates it will be tired. If they eat up the money allocated for the tar road, they must tell the public please.

* WE are sick and tired of the Khorixas Municipality, they must do something, the town is very dirty. They must put those big dustbins all over in town and all places where dustbins are needed before cholera could start.

– Concerned from Khorixas

* MUNICIPALITY of Walvis Bay, why when there is wind do you only clean in town but not in Kuisebmond. And why is Kuisebmond refuse removed during the night and in town during the day? You are disturbing our sleep.

* WHAT is the hype around the 3-km stretch of road tarred in Berseba. Why didn’t the Roads Authority consider the 40-km road from the B1 at Tses? This is just an election stint so that the ruling party can refer to this as development brought to Berseba by Swapo. Don’t underestimate the Nama people. They don’t have degrees or diplomas but know what’s going on.

* I HAVE lived at Otavi for 18 years but I haven’t seen any development here. Look at Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo developing every day. Please bring development to Otavi.

* NBC MD, please tell me why the Rukavango service is not in the Hardap and Karas Regions? But other local language stations are found in Kavango e.g. Nama\Damara, Herero etc. Or is there a special fee for that? Please, we want the Rukavango radio service in the south.
