Food For Thought
* WHAT is the Ministry of Education doing about secondary learners who can’t read or write?
* CAN the City of Windhoek please rename Robert Mugabe Avenue Barack Obama Avenue. Can the people of Windhoek support me on this?
Zimbabwe
* FIRST the opposition members were dying at the hands of Mugabe’s regime and he claimed that there is no crisis. And now the whole nation is suffering because of cholera, except the politicians, and yet he says there is no crisis. No, United Nations, the man must go please.
* SADC must resolve the Zim crisis before the West intervenes militarily to save us all from widespread regional war! – BAB, Karas
* ONLY God can remove President (Robert) Mugabe from power not me, not The Namibian, not you, you and you. Get it people.
* EVERY day Mugabe this, Mugabe that. Oh dear! This has gone too far.
* CITY of Windhoek as a matter of principle, re-name Robert Mugabe Ave to any name, and do it as a matter of urgency. GRN, close the Zim Embassy and withdraw the Namibian High Commission from that country.
Politics
* I WOULD like to urge the mighty Swapo not to regard the opposition parties as its enemies, but just competitors or challengers in the political spheres of life. Enmity will take us nowhere in this country. Let’s try by all means to guard our peace and stability in the Land of the Brave. God bless Namibia and its citizens.
* DR (Joe) Diescho is a well-educated Namibian with the interests of his motherland at heart, unlike many of those running this Government. The standard of living is deteriorating for an ordinary Namibian. – Salvano
* I AM sick and tired of politics in this country! When are Government and the private sector going to build a sports stadium at Outapi in the Omusati Region? It is a priority, sport unites people and promotes and makes us a healthy nation among others. – Kanamtenya
In And From the Regions
* KARIBIB Matters. Please! Hon Jerry Ekandjo remove the Town Council of Karibib. They don’t have a plan for the town. Please act now before it is too late. – Concerned Resident
* TSUMEB’S mayor should stop putting sweet words in the newspaper. Where are the developments he is talking of?
* OSHAKATI Town management: Ompundja main road still in darkness. We want to eat cake together.
– Tshagwamesho
Message Of Condolence
* I WISH to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the wife, bereaved family and to the entire Namibian Defence Force, on the passing away of their beloved Brigadier Malakiah Nakandungile who died in a car accident. Brig Nakandungile will be remembered for his visionary Leadership. Ecclesiastes 7: 14. May his soul rest in everlasting peace. – Jeremiah Tshiningwe
General
* CHRISTMAS is on our doorsteps and still nothing has been done for GIPF pensioners in the South. Shame on you the “active” committee members and GIPF who supports them.
* The Deeds Office commits daylight robbery by registering worthless property in villages.
* I WOULD like to thank the Ministry of Youth for their youth services. I ask them to take recruits from all six constituencies please.
* SO can someone tell me the Government’s excuse for not bringing down the fuel price?
* Fuel prices are going down tomorrow. See story on today’s front page. – Newsdesk
* When is the price of fuel going to come down, the price off oil came down and the price of fuel in South Africa our neighbouring country came down.
* MINISTER Nghimtina, how about a Christmas present with a drop in fuel prices. The crude oil price has dropped considerably. Who’s benefiting from it? – The Minister heard you! – Newsdesk
* OUR fear. The Sperrgebiet Park will benefit the haves as it was designed by the haves to the detriment of the have-nots.
* FUEL has gone down four times this year but prices on public transport and taxis have remained high. Nabta, what’s your take on this? And who monitors fares of Intercape, Zambia-Namibia and Baileys? Their prices are almost close to Air Namibia just to travel within Namibia. - M Kasale
Labour Issues
* THE leaders of Napwu and Nantu have not yet consulted the civil servants about the salary negotiations with the GRN. The majority of employees continue to suffer from economic hardships and are willing to air their views to their union leaders before the negotiations start. They must avoid secret deals if they are transparent and genuinely represent the interest of their members.
Bouquets And Brickbats
* WELL done to the U/20 women’s football team for the bronze medal at the Zone 6 Games. I’m a proud parent of my daughter who was the captain of the Young Gladiators. Thanks to coach Jacqui (Shipanga).
* THANKS Andrew Niikondo for telling it like it is and put the Outapi ‘violence’ in a righteous context in your article titled ‘Outapi – Violence or the Lesson Learnt?’ in the New Era of December 12. A very educative and informative piece indeed. I urge all patriotic readers to read it. Can you please have it published in The Namibian? Once again, thanks.
* I HATE it when the NBC makes promises they don’t intend to keep. My Saturday was spoiled as I waited for a Manchester United match but had to settle for a women’s football match between SA and Guinea. Do they really expect us to pay our TV licences if they are this inconsistent? – Ben
* PLEASE NBC, stop fooling us. Do not tell people that you will show live soccer games, but it is not true at all. Start to act professionally. Now we trust One Africa, because they tell the truth.
* NBC why are the dates on camera during the news still showing the year 2003? Edit your news.
* NBC were you not supposed to broadcast soccer on Tuesdays and Wednesdays? But from my experience you broadcast soccer every night. Please broadcast something else other than soccer every day.
Service Please
* MTC and FNB need to amend their terms of contract in order for MTC contract customers to buy air time via FNB cellphone banking, it will be convenient and bring satisfaction to customers of both parties. Please reconsider!
* TRANSNAMIB your services shock. You are not hygiene friendly at all. The toilets don’t work. I’m sick and tired of poor service! You need to improve big time.
– Angry Passenger
* THE poor service rendered by TransNamib causes great inconvenience. Delays, endless stops in the middle of nowhere, no water, toilets are unhygienic. We’ve had enough.
* VOTE of no confidence in Trans-Namib! We’re sick of poor service: no water or electricity on the train, late arrivals. Up your game.
* THE services of Standard Bank Main Branch consultants’ division is poor. Do you know what simpler, better and faster means?
* WOERMANN Brock in Eros, please improve the service at your tills. It took me half an hour on Friday to pay for my groceries – first they told me debit cards were not affected by a technical problem with credit cards, but the debit card transaction did not go through. I then offered to pay by cheque, and the cashier said it is fine, but then the computer rejected my bank-guaranteed cheque because I’m not an “approved customer”, whatever that may mean. I then went to the nearest ATM to draw cash, only to find upon my return that the cashier was returning my groceries to the shelves and had to ring everything up again. It seems you do not want my money.
* WE want our Government to come to our rescue! The Institute of Open Learning is not fair on loan re-payments! Instead of paying N$7 700 which we are signing for, we end up paying more than N$20 000. We are sick and tired of making the rich richer and us the poor being made more poorer! It’s terrible.
Health Matters
* CAN the Minister of Health look at those responsible for the operation on the two-year-old boy who died in Khorixas? How did they do it without making sure there was enough blood? That is unprofessional.
Sporting
* ONE really wonders. How was is it possible for the NBC to get a broadcasting licence for women’s soccer instead of the scheduled match if they are forever claiming that they don’t have broadcasting permissions for our domestic league? Somebody please explain.
* SPORT unites not divides people. Kanalelo respect people and they will do the same.
* RONNY Kanalelo, move on from coaching, you were a great player but it is clear that you will not become a great coach. Your arrogance and pride will soon land you in big trouble, take your cash and time and use it wisely somewhere else. Thanks for listening to good advice!
Education
* WHY doesn’t Unam’s exams body introduce a new system whereby a student must first enter his password/PIN before checking his/her results? We’re sick and tired of other students who by whatever means came to know our student numbers and use this unfair advantage without our knowledge to check and judge our results for comparison, competition and criticism purposes. Please whoever is responsible must do something now as this breaks us into millions of morale-less pieces.
– Outlandish!
* I’M a building and civil engineering student doing my in-service training. What is the point of the government encouraging us to study in the field of engineering while the tender board gives all building construction work to Chinese companies, while the Chinese don’t pay the minimum wage?
* WATCH out! BETD in-service modules are outdated by 15 years and now some of those teachers don’t even know how to assess learners in the field. Please Director of NIED modules must be per national standard. Continuous Assessment must be part of the training too.
* HOW long does it takes to send responses to the applicants who applied for admission at the Law Faculty at Unam? Every time we call your office we are told that the responses were sent to us a week ago. It is almost three months since. We do not know our future. Unam closed on December 12 and where do we make enquiries?
– Disappointed Namibian
* WHY do the Grade 10 results not come out in the newspaper? Where will l get my results?
