SMSes for Monday 1 Dec 08

* WHAT about us who ‘fought’ inside the country? We have also suffered. Are the exile ‘children’ more special than us who were left behind by our parents? Some people were killed inside the country during the liberation struggle, or does that not count? We need an answer!

Food For Thought

* I AM concerned about Namibians, they tend to blame the Government and demand everything like jobs and houses. These things are earned after hard work and are not provided for free! So stand up, work hard and you can have it all.

– Kaakii, Okahandja

* THIS tree, which I will be sleeping under tonight, is mine. Please don’t take it away from me, it is all I have in my Afrika!

Messages Of Condolence

* MAY the soul of Meekulu Gwakondo rest in peace. To the Father of the Nation Dr Sam Nujoma and the entire bereaved family, may God give you strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Good-bye Meekulu.

– Mitiri Puje, Windhoek

* GRANDMOTHER of nation, rest in eternal peace kuku Wakondombolo.

– M Shipiki

* OUR deepest sympathy to our Founding Father Dr Sam  Nujoma whose Mother kuku Helvi Kondombolo passed away on November 26 this year. May her soul rest in peace.

* I WANT to extend my sympathy to the Father of the Nation for his beloved mother who passed away. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

– Christofina

* MAY the soul of kuku Gwakondo rest in peace. Even though you are gone, we will never forget you .

Children of the Struggle

* WHAT is so special about the so-called ‘exile kids’? Some even have kids of their own, so they’re no longer kids. Why is it that only after 18 years they are realising that they need counselling? Who doesn’t need counselling in this country?

– Saara

Bouquets And Brickbats

* IT was very disappointing to see Lionel Richie performing in Cape Town for only one and a half hours, coming to Africa for the very first time after the years of support we gave him and paying N$600 for the show. Michael Jackson for example gave his fans a stunning show in Johannesburg for three hours, which in my view is value for money!

* COMPLIMENTS to you guys at The Namibian. You are doing a great job and can be considered a good reason to still believe in democracy in Namibia. Good luck

Music Awards

* PLEASE next year the Sanlam NBC Awards should be good with new changes. Teens should present the awards not formal people. This is supposed to be entertainment.

* SANLAM NBC Music Awards. It’s not fair that Tate Buti won the Damara/Punch while Clarence Geingob could have won due to the fact that his music was more in line with the category.

– Wiely, Mariental

* TATE Buti and his group we need a live band performance in the Damara Punch category.

* I WOULD sincerely like to congratulate Tate Buti for scooping the Artist of the Year award. He deserves it. Omalaeti for life.

– Lourencia

* BEST Damara Punch? Tate Buti majority rule is not a joke.

* SOME Namibian artists must learn how to behave in public. Shame on Tate Buti who swore on stage!

Politics

* AS a tour operator I accompanied 23 foreign tourists from Europe, 19 adults and four children between the ages of 4 to 6 years old, to Ruacana. We visited the waterfall and spent two nights camping in a Himba village. Saturday, November 22 turned into a nightmare for these visitors. On our way back to Etosha National Park we stopped at Outapi Service Station for petrol. A mob of people dressed in Swapo colours armed with kieries and pangas approached our car chanting and singing. One of them asked me why I did not put up a Swapo flag on the car. The others where shouting anti-white slogans. These tourists became so terrified and scared because they have never experienced such incidents in Namibia where political parties are at loggerheads. It cost me a good explanation to convince them about their safety as they even wanted to cancel their bookings to Etosha and go back to their country. We must learn that political turmoil will affect the tourism industry negatively

* WITH due respect, what is President [Hifikepunye] Pohamba trying to refer to as provocation from certain elements? It is a well-known thing that the Swapo Party is at the forefront of provocation and therefore he should control his members, full stop. They do not even have respect for the Police, which is very shameful since Swapo is the ruling party. No one has the right to tell us that other parties have no support, but just rather wait for general elections next year.

* DEAR Mr President [Hifikepunye Pohamba] and Prime Minister [Nahas Angula], I fail to understand what both of you meant by elements of provocation. Be specific. All we tried was to have a rally at Outapi but Swapo acted like a cornered tsotsi and chased us away.

– ATM, Otjinene

* PLEASE identify perpetrators of political violence and arrest them. For instance the person on the front page of The Namibian newspaper who burnt the RDP flag.

* FIRST it was the colonial regime of South Africa now it is the Swapo Party and its Government: Beating up people and engaging in all types of intimidation and drawing tribal lines and declaring some parts of a free country as no-go areas! This is amazing.

* IT is disappointing that the President chose to speak against violence in his capacity as the president of Swapo rather than as a Head of State.

* RECENT comments by Jesaya Nyamu [of the Rally for Democracy and Progress] are those of a confused and desperate person trying hard to get some votes in the RDP Convention in December. He is now being haunted by his conscience and is seeing the Founding President in all his mess-ups.

– Andreas

* AN answer to an SMS of November 28: If there are hotels or lodges in Ongwediva or Oshakati to hold meetings, why should the RDP use those and Swapo not? Go back to the Constitution.

* INTERIM Secretary General Jesaya Nyamu of the RDP must please apologise publicly and nationwide to the Father of the Nation Dr Sam Nujoma for false allegations.

– JEP

* THE noble thing to stop political tension in Namibia is for the RDP-NSHR coalition to stop insulting Swapo and its members especially Comrade Nujoma. I know that Gwen will not publish this since she has been an arch-enemy of Swapo.

– Get your facts straight. The Namibian is not the arch-enemy of any particular person, group or party. But we are the enemy of intolerance, violence, bigotry, witch-hunts, intimidation, etc, as well as false assumptions. – News Editor

* PLEASE the autocratic individuals at Outapi! Realise that that place doesn’t belong to you but is Namibian soil like any other. If you regard it to be private property you are lost, confused or unlawfully stubborn.

* WHY can’t Swapo accept other opposition parties in a democratic country, those are just our brothers and sisters with different political opinions. If HE Pohamba can’t do anything about it, than he must step down as a president because he can’t control his own territory. Swapo is using our poor, uneducated people, who don’t understand politics, for all the wrong reasons.

– ENP, Onayena.

General

* IT is time that the Election Commission of Namibia extends voter education to areas like Kapako where my brother Sebastian aka Seba lives. The worst part is that he works as a teacher but, unfortunately is either ignorant or he is not aware of the existence of a document called the Namibian Constitution. It’s high time that all Namibians who are living like him took up our Supreme Law and started educating themselves, because it is dangerous to live outside its parameters.

– Mukuve, Rundu

* LET it be all Namibian! Teachers are raising funds to meet Government halfway in its plans. A few are for building classrooms, libraries and for bursary schemes. Almost every weekend various schools’ teachers and learners are braaing to raise money without rest. When are the Police, nurses and others doing the same for the insufficient vehicles for the Police and limited number of clinics in country. Please follow suit.

* JUST finished reading a local novel ‘The Other Presence’ by Francis S Nyathi. Great piece of work and a must-read for all.

* ALL users of ADSL, please buy bandwidth manager software to control your bandwidth before you get overcharged by the providers.

– Consumer Check

* WHY does Namfisa exist if it can’t control cash loans and law firms? I mean these people keep on adding interest. Please help us the debtors. Do something Namfisa!

* IT is high time that the management of Spar and the Police address the chaotic situation at the Spar shopping area in Khomasdal. Near daily fights, airtime and other vendors all over the parking area, chaotic car parking, dirty, adults begging. Directly across the street from a Police barracks. This is a shameful disgrace.

* I AM a resident in the Khomasdal area. My main complaint is about the high level of criminal activities going on here. Since the start of this month there have been a lot of robberies and shootings going on especially from the early hours of the mornings. We don’t sleep enough because now we are the ones patrolling for our own safety. Where are the NDF, Special Field Force, City Police? Why don’t they patrol these areas too? Please we are fearing for our lives!

In And From the Regions

* I LIVE in Ongwediva and am very unhappy about the way the town council handles their affairs. They keep on cutting both the water and power supply without prior warning. Please Ongwediva Town Council shape up.

* TROUBLED by the storm in Eenhana is the National Youth Service. NYS members are sleeping in tents. All we need is proper and secure accommodation, please.

– Concerned NYS member

* CAN the ACC please investigate the Karibib Municipality. This is a humble request.

– Concerned resident

* ACC please investigate the Tsumeb Municipality concerning individual house toilets in Soweto location that were half built. Please do it fast.

* THE example of other Village Councils for identifying their vehicles so clearly says a lot. (Like Gibeon). Keep it that way, Maltahöhe councillors please follow.

* POTHOLE signs on the Kalkrand-Hoachanas road are now long overdue. This caused an accident over the weekend. When is the Road Authority planning to attend to it.

– Concerned Regular Road User

* A WELL-QUALIFIED nurse with a Master of Nursing Degree is being overlooked when it comes to promotion, just for being a member of Namibia Nurses Union. Only certain people are being promoted. ACC come to Oshakati Hospital please!

* PLEASE Rural Water Supply, what is going on at Onemanya area in Okahao Constituency. People are buying water every day. Some who can’t afford to get money are drinking dirty water. Please GRN look into this.

– Fessy Shaanika

Education

* PLEASE Ongwediva College, we all need education. Your aptitude test was easy. I’m sure I didn’t fail it.

* I’M a concerned IOL student who completed the ACE course through them. Students received their certificates before graduations. Why? Most teachers don’t get a salary increment on the next scale after completion of the course. IOL and NQA please inform us about your acknowledgement and recognitions, through our 13 education regional offices. We must know where we stand with you.
