New bus stop to reduce chaotic situations

By: CLEMANS MIYANICWE

THE N$1,6 million transit facility built to minimise chaos at bus stops has been standing idle for over six months.

The Brakwater long distance transit facility to eastern regions which is located at the intersection of Julius Nyerere and Hereford street opposite Okahandja Park was built due to the chaotic situations happening at transit facilities around the city.
The Namibian was informed that some long distance operators have decided to boycott it because its too far and some said the transit facility was turning into a white elephant.
“We (City of Windhoek) are not aware of the boycott by long distance transport operators nor about the facility being a white elephant,” Lydia Amutenya, public relations officer of the City of Windhoek said yesterday.
Amutenya said the facility was not yet in use as a company to manage it still has not been chosen.
“Selection process is at advanced stage to look for a company to manage it,” said Amutenya.
Windhoek has currently five approved bus stops for long distance transport.
“This facility is built so that activities take place in a well organised manner,” Amutenya said.
