Galz & Goals plan national championship

By: STAFF REPORTER

THE Namibia Football Association Women’s Desk, in partnership with Unicef will host the Galz & Goals National Football and Healthy Lifestyles Championship on May 25 at Namibia Football Association Technical Centre (Soccer House) in Katutura, Windhoek.

The championship will feature 10 teams from eight-regions and will provide participants with access to healthy lifestyle information through interactive sessions and activities delivered by local service providers.
“Access to information on healthy lifestyles for young girls is a key component of the NFA Galz & Goals programme. By making health and life skills information available through football, the NFA is hoping to empower young girls, their families, friends and communities for the rest of their lives,” said Jackey Gertze, Galz & Goals National Coordinator.
Emphasising the role of girls and football, Unicef Country Representative Micaela Marques De Sousa added: “Young people in Namibia face many challenges. Many young people are leaving school without obtaining a formal education. They are at the centre of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and violence against children has been identified as a key area of concern. Galz & Goals offers young girls an opportunity to participate in a programme that can have a positive impact on their lives.”
Over a 100 adolescent girls and 20 coaches are expected to be part of a day full of information and fun.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the event and to participate in the interactive healthy lifestyle sessions and activities that will be accessible throughout the day.
