Knoetze wins Copper Kettle race
PIERRE Knoetze won the first cycling race of the season, the Copper Kettle Loops, which took place in Windhoek on Saturday.
Knoetze completed the nine-lap 86km event in a time of 2:05:21, beating Jacques Celliers by a second.
Costa Seibeb came third in 2:05:23, while Adrian Maartens came fourth a further second behind.
A total of 20 cyclists completed the Senior Men’s category.
Thorsten Kreft won the Junior Men’s category over 76,5km in 1:50:43, followed by Jerneil Barth (1:50:50) and Johan Rossouw (1:57:56).
Nick du Plessis was a comfortable winner of the Veteran Men’s category over 67km, finishing more than a minute ahead of second-placed Stefan van Doorn. Du Plessis completed the 67km event in 1:36:21, with Van Doorn second in 1:37:16 and Leander Borg third in 1:40:53.
Genevieve Weber won the Elite Women’s category over 61,7km in a time of 1:48:12, with Lidia Theron coming second and Aletti Louw third in the same time of 1:48:57.
Namibia’s female road race champion Vera Adrian competed in the Elite Men’s category over 86km, where she came 15th overall in a time of 2:06:51.
Chelna Neethling won the Junior Women’s category over 57km in 1:33:40, while Antje Tietz won the Veteran Women’s category over 57km in 1:33:47, followed by Johanita de Waal (1:37:23) and Maryna Blignaut (1:54:33).
