Khorixas students angry over delayed August results
By: CLEMANS MIYANICWEMATRIC students of the Cornelius Goreseb High School at Khorixas protested at the school on Friday because they have still not received their exam results for the term that ended in August.
The students say the school’s failure to provide them with their reports meant that they were too late to apply for admission to Unam and the Polytech.
The ones who wanted to apply to Unam’s medical school were particularly furious as the deadline has already passed. The students chanted “give us our reports” in front of the principal’s office when The Namibian arrived at the school.
A student who wanted to enrol at the Unam medical school said: “Some of us wanted to study in the medical field but our hopes have been shattered due to teachers who can’t finish their job on time.”
“These teachers are incompetent – it is like they don’t care about our future,” said another student.
The majority of them were also concerned about the deadline for applying for campus accommodation at Unam, because they don’t have relatives in Windhoek to lodge with. Although Unam’s late registration closes later this month, they said they would now have to pay more for late registration fees. School principal Andreas /Howoseb said the delay was due to two teachers who went to a funeral while the exams were underway.
The principal added that the school would write a letter to Unam and the Polytechnic to explain why the students’ applications are late.
The students are expected receive their reports today.
