Charity Golf Day edges closer
By: STAFF REPORTERGOLFERS only have a few days left to perfect their swing as the date for the Bank Windhoek Golf Day in Aid of Welfare approaches.
The Bank Windhoek Golf Day will take place on Friday at the Windhoek Country Club.
Thirty-five teams will participate to raise funds for welfare in Namibia. The first tee-off time starts at 06h40.
Nine sports legends will also participate in the day. Former Brave Warriors stars Amos Shiyuka and Sandro de Gouveia will join former Bafana Bafana goalie Brian Baloyi and South African cricketers Aubrey Martyn, Stephen Jefferies, Alan Dawson, Garth le Roux, Adrian Kuiper and Brian MacMillan.
These sports legends are not charging anything to appear in the golf day and there was a bidding process where teams had to bid to play with the sports legend of their choice. The money raised through the bidding will also go towards welfare.
“A substantial amount of funds has been raised through the bidding wars and the entry fees. The amount raised and the chosen beneficiaries will be revealed at the prize-giving ceremony on the same day in the evening,” said Riaan van Rooyen of Bank Windhoek.
“More funds are expected to be raised at the prize-giving ceremony where a ceremonial rugby ball and two signed cricket bats will be auctioned. A limited number of small rugby balls and cricket bats will also be autographed by the sport legends and sold for N$100,”he added.
