Elemotho scoops international award

By: CONRAD ANGULA

NAMIBIAN artist Elemotho Gaalelekwe reached another milestone in his rich music career yesterday when he won the RFI 24th Discoveries Music Award in Paris, France.

Ten finalists, including Denis Larose (Mauritius), Nasser (Mauritania), GT the Guitarman (Nigeria), Maryse Ngalula (DRC), Spyrow (Cote d’Ivoire), Tafeifa (Senegal), Trio Teriba (Benin) and Elemotho were nominated for the award.

The Discoveries Award helped launch many artists who have since reached an international audience.  A jury, under the chairmanship of Benin’s artist Angelique Kidjo, voted for the winner. Elemotho has won himself an excellent opportunity to promote his music in the rest of Africa and he is expected to visit at least 20 member countries of the Franco Cultural Centres on the continent.
