Four promoted to Northern Stream
BEE Bob Brothers, Celtics, Epupa 11 Stars and African Lions have been promoted to the Nationwide First Division after winning the playoffs held over the weekend.
Bee Bob Brothers won the Southern Stream First Division playoffs held at the Kuisebmond Stadium in Walvis Bay while Celtics finished as runners-up to join them in the second-tier of Namibian football.
The two sides recorded big victories over the weekend including Celticsí 8-0 win over Shaluza Chiefs, while Bee Bob Brothers defeated Dates Eleven 5-0.
In other results from the Southern Stream First Division playoffs: Dates Eleven 2-2 Namib Colts, Shaluza Chiefs 2-2 Dates Eleven, Namib Colts 1-3 Bee Bob Brothers, Bee Bob Brothers 4-2 Shaluza Chiefs, Celtics 2-1 Namib Colts.
Bee Bob Bothers are from Mariental in the Hardap region while Celtics are from Swakopmund in the Erongo region. The two sides take their positions in the Southern Stream First Division after Fedics United and Young Ones were relegated at the end of last season.
At the Oscar Norich Stadium in Tsumeb, Omusati regionsí Epupa 11 Stars had to see off a spirited Sport Klub Outjo to pip Caprivi regionís King Fischer in Group A.
In Group B, African Lions from the Otjozondjupa region also had to win their final game to top Group B as they won promotion to the Northern Stream First Division.
African Lions faced Oshana regionís Young Chiefs for the Group B decider on Sunday afternoon as the underdogs, but they overwhelmed Chiefs from the start. Lions raced into a 4-0 lead midway through the second half before Chiefs got a late consolation goal for a final score of 4-1.
Later on, Epupa 11 Stars came into the match against Sport Klub Outjo equal on six points with Caprivi regionís King Fischer and they only needed a draw to book their place.
Kunene regionís Outjo however put in a spirited performance against their more fancied opponents, given Day One score lines.
Outjo created a lot of chances and had they won the match, King Fischer would have gone through on goal difference. But poor finishing and some resolute defending saw Ruacana-based Epupa 11 Stars holding on to a goalless draw as they celebrated their return to the Northern Stream First Division.
