Mulunga leads Academy title rally

By: STAFF REPORTER

DEFENDER Lovisa Mulunga scored seven goals to lead her JS Academy side to a 23-0 rout of Challengers United in Windhoek on Sunday.

The victory sees Academy go joint top with Okahandja Beauties, who surprisingly lost 5-1 to Poly Babes. The Academy, who have a game in hand, had beaten Babes 1-0 a day earlier thanks to Vistoria Shangula’s effort. They trail Beauties by virtue of an inferior goal difference, but both have 40 points.
Mulunga, more renowned for her robust tackling than finishing attributes, was the undoubted star of the show against Challengers with her scoring feat.
Another defender, Lena !Noreses, notched up five goals and was joined on the scoresheet by Alberta Dawes, Burny Dennis, and Twelikondjela Amukoto.
Eddelisngh Naris, Novata Paulus, Melissa Matheus, and Memory Ngonda also weighed in with a brace each.
Log leaders Beauties appear to be cracking under the pressure coming from their closest rivals as their sole outing for the weekend saw them humbled by an inspired Babes outfit.
Babes got the victory thanks to goals from Selma Mavulu, Laurika Afrikaner, Mildred Xoagus, Jacobine Swartbooi, and Lethici Manga.
Stephanie Hummel scored the consolation for Beauties. Sunday’s final match saw Unam Bokkies lose 2-3 to Brigade United. The goal scorers for Bokkies were Martina Tjauha and Ester Amukwaya while Fransina Shivute got the opener for Brigade United with further goals from Helena Ipinge and Rauna Hamakali.
