Damara leader urges his people to register
By: STAFF REPORTERDAMARA Chief, Immanuel /Gâseb is urging his people, especially the Damaras in the Dâures Constituency, to be ready to vote in the coming regional and local authority elections in November.
In a press release issued on Monday, /Gâseb stated that the youth and rural community in the constituency should register and “vote in big numbers” during the elections.
“This is an opportunity for communities to re-elect, or replace, their councillor(s) with others that will bring development to their area. Regional elections are very critical to the rural communities, because it is about electing leaders that will direct Government development programs to tackle issues that affect the community on a daily basis,” he is quoted as saying.
“It is therefore important for each and every individual that is voting age, to go and register.”
He encouraged those “who are discouraged to vote because of a lack of development in the constituency”, to also register to ensure they are able to vote “if they happen to change their mind on voting day”.
/Gâseb made a further appeal to communal farmers, and other employers in the Dâures Constituency, to release and assist their workers to be able to register and vote freely for the candidate of their choice.
The !Oe≠Gân leader, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Council for Traditional Leaders, applauded the Government for holding regular elections and said it demonstrates that democracy is at work in the country.
