The ‘biscuit’ that caused a stink

IS it a biscuit? Is it a log? No, it is in fact a human turd! Approached for comment this week after a Windhoek-based gym was alerted to poo in their pool, the manager said a swimmer who first spotted the mysterious brown, floating object initially thought it was a (chocolate chip?) biscuit! When the swimmer discovered a curious brown object floating close to her, she alerted management, and, after a closer look, it was revealed to be human faeces.

Another upset gym member, who missed his daily swim last Wednesday, described it as ‘crappy’ that the pool had been closed for the day because someone had defecated in it.
But according to the gym’s manager, this type of incident is not unusual in public swimming pools across the world, and she said that in South Africa “it happens every second day.”
Most gyms, she said, including the one in Windhoek, have “sanitation and hygiene systems in place to sort out the problem quickly”.
And so last Wednesday, gym members were briefly barred from using the swimming pool, while the gym activated a rigorous sanitation procedure to ensure the pool’s hygiene was brought up to scratch.Ample toilet facilities are available at the gym in question.
