Namibia improves on Fifa rankings
THE Brave Warriors have jumped 13 places on the International Federation of Football Associations (Fifa) Coca-Cola world rankings, made public on Wednesday.
Namibia moved from 128th position to an impressive 115th place, and on the continental rankings, Namibia moved up from 35th position to 31st position.
The Brave Warriors’ fine performance against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on June 6, with a record score-line of 4-0 in an international friendly, may probably have boosted Namibia’s standings on the latest rankings.
Countries in southern Africa on top of Namibia in terms of ranking are South Africa (13th), Zambia (17th), Mozambique (20th), Angola (26th) and Malawi (28th).
The top 10 African countries are Ivory Coast (1st), Cameroon (2nd), Gabon (3rd), Nigeria (4th), Ghana (5th), Egypt (6th), Algeria (7th), Tunisia (8th), Burkina Faso (9th) and Morocco (10th).
The 2009 Fifa Confederations Cup semi-final loser and 2010 World Cup host South Africa is outside the top 10 bracket of the continent.
On the global ranking, 2009 Confederations Cup winners Brazil are comfortably in first place now, beating Confederations Cup third-place winner Spain into second position.
The Netherlands is third, followed by Italy and Germany in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Russia is sixth, followed by England and Argentina in seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
France and Croatia are placed ninth and 10th.
Confederations Cup runners-up the United States of America (USA) is placed 12th on the world rankings.
The next Coca-Cola Fifa ranking will be made public on August 5. – Nampa
