SKW serving young players

WINDHOEK Sport Klub (SKW) held a successful football tournament at its premises last weeken.

The tournament was sponsored by Retirement Fund Solutions.

Whilst it was the aim to promote the game at youth level, it was a sad note to observe that ill-disciplined trainers and drunk spectators interfered in the playing of the games.

In one incident during the under-13 matches, a coach was sent off from the premises during the Otjiwarongo FC match after getting into a fight with the referee, and spectators of Ramblers were accused of verbally abusing the young players.

Referee Simon Areseb did a superb job in applying the correct Fifa rules to the game in writing down each and every goal and caution.

The SKW Namibia Premier League coaches, Rolf Beiter and Lucky Kakuva, were not amused when they were told that 47 yellow and 15 red cards were given throughout the tournament for teams in the under-11 up to the under-17 age groups.

On a positive note, it was especially the games played by the girls and the bambinos that were fair and played in a good spirit.

The fairest competitive game was played during the under-17 final between SFC, under the management of Tom Zwar and Georg Engelbauer, against SKW, coached by Lucky Kakuva and Roland Zirzow.

No unfair play was noted and not one single yellow card was given.

In the end, it was the SFC that showed the stronger nerves by winning the penalty shootout.

Alongside Swakopmund FC, SKW was the most consistent football academy in taking second place in all age groups, except for under-7 and under-15 categories, where it won third place.

SKW will host the tournament again next year.

All results and pictures of the tournament can be viewed on the SKW homepage www.skw.com.na.
