Big Brother Africa: Getting in the swim of things
By: JEAN SUTHERLANDTHERE’S going to be no steamy action in the Big Brother house this year. No, not that sort of action, the other sort. Yip peeps, I can reveals that there’s no jacuzzi this year!! No sauna either.
The producers have opted for a swimming pool – again. Even after it proved something of a damp squib during last year’s show.
Still, it did see Uganda’s ‘man oh man, I’m the man in the mirror’, Morris, learn to swim.
For me, BBA 2’s been the best Big Brother so far and the jacuzzi played no mean role in that. It was a hotbed of seduction and intrigue!
Who can forget the Meryl and Kwaku wrap-me-around-you moment, or Lerato queening it in the ’cuzzi while sparring with Richard in what eventually morphed into an infamous night of Tanzanian tantrums. Dutty dreads still remains the prima donna of hissy fits! No contest.
But not least, it was the HQ of the ‘Fab Five’! And just when you thought it was safe to come out of the water .... Oops, usile me, that’s ‘Jaws’ ...
Pity though that there’ll be no jacuzzi in the first BBA in which conspiracy has been legalised. Sure though that there’ll be other conspiratorial flashpoints.
The no-cuzzi news was ‘leaked’ by TVSA’s (tvsa.com.za) Tashi Tagg on her blog yesterday. She was one of several South African journalists who spent last weekend in the house.
For its part, M-Net said in a statement yesterday that the house had been given a bling-over: “Fresh contemporary style, clean sophisticated finishes, Afro-chic interiors, and a revolutionary spirit ... “
M-Net says the house is a marked departure from previous seasons – from its technology to its multi-textured, multi-faceted décor. “Polished stainless steel elements sit alongside warm wood tones and rugged stone, whilst canvas drawn paintings share space comfortably with unique graffiti artwork. Bold colours against a backdrop of neutrals provide key focal points throughout the house while wide open spaces allow for a feeling of space and tranquillity.”
The kitchen is described as “a chef’s dream”, the bathroom as “elegant”, the bedroom as “dormitory-styled” and the diary room as being “dramatically different”.
Another sneak take from Tashi Tagg is that there’s “a creepy tree” in the middle of the house?!!
And the clock ticks down ... three more sleeps to go.
Stay tuned!
* The doors to Big Brother Africa 4 open on Sunday, and the action will be screened on DStv’s channel 198.
